Wow, Amanda! Am blown away by how professional you are in making your presentation! I also downloaded your pdf (thank you) and it looks equally skillful and comprehensive. You have tremendous potential as an artists and educator. Great work!
I tried a few different web builders. Format is great! First , Format designs are beautiful- simple, clean, eye catching, professional. Easy to navigate their interface and experiment with themes and templates. And they work well- very smooth functioning. I tried a few other web page builders, and in my experience they were more "glitchy". Second, I am very very impressed with how the people at Format really care and are so good in terms of customer service. Third, unlike other web builders- Format is run by and for artists. I feel like its not only a web builder, but without getting too "warm and fuzzy", they really seem like they are building a community or artists. Not only by their web design and customer service, but by creating an online magazine for artists. I feel like I'm more part of a community than just a number.
i just found your UA-cam and its very informative, thank you. I tried to download the pdf, but the link seems not working anymore. or maybe you already took it down since this video is 3 years old. Hopefully you will put the pdf again so I can download it. Thank you...
Great info. I am new to all of this, being an artist as well as trying to get a better web presence. I used to blog but recently have reverted to FB and IG to share my work. I will definitely look at the guide and thank you for your generous sharing.
Amanda restores my faith in people. She's right about GoDaddy, I call it Go"Nowhere"Daddio. Additionally; It's great to know that this kind of information is available without paying $$$$ for some consultant who give you pennies of info. for thousands of dollars. Thanx Amanda!
Amanda - Kuddo's for this great video ill be sharing this video in my class. Thank you for taking the time to make such inspirational content for young artists!
thank you for your advice and for that comprehensive guide! I'm currently switching over my art website to squarespace so this was really helpful to hear.
Personally, i dont know about shopify but id sell your art on a site that doesnt take commisions- eg etsy takes a large commision, wheras instagram does not
I am so grateful that you're doing this series! I would really appreciate if you would look at my website. now that I'm starting hub to develop different series of paintings, I'm getting ready to revamp my portfolio page with slideshows. what else can I improve upon?
Hi Aisling! I took a peek at your website and I think adding a little more organization and context to your paintings would be helpful. I'm not sure what the constraints are on your Squarespace theme, but it'd be nice to see the the title and information next to or beneath the image of your work when the image is expanded. I like that you've included some detail shots of certain pieces, but it'd be helpful if there was some writing that indicated when a photo is a detail of a larger piece. I love that you used the announcement bar to get visitors to sign up for your mailing list! I recommend making a unique landing page for your newsletter signup form (without the contact form) and adding a link to the announcement bar that drives traffic directly to that page. If it's possible, explain WHY people should sign up for your list (i.e. to stay current on events, the opening of your online shop, freebies, etc.) Based on your artist statement on the home page, you're definitely a great writer, and I'd love to see more behind-the-scenes looks at your creative process in a blog format. And one last minor thing: you might want to change your Favicon (that icon that appears in the browser tab) to something more personal like a symbol, your initials, or icon. I hope this helps! Feel free to reach out to me via email at amanda@aftrart.com if you have any more questions!
I find platforms like Weebly and Wix full of unnecessary steps and features. I definitely think they're drag and drop functionality can be a little confusing and can make for some strange looking websites. If you're just looking for a website to host galleries of your work, I think www.format.com/ might be the best solution out there! I've played with Format a bit but don't use it for any of the websites I manage. However, I do know a lot of people who use it regularly and are pretty happy with it.
I highly recommend Squarespace! I started with wix and was feeling something similar to you. Then trialed Weebly. After a year on Squarespace, Im really happy with how things are looking and I feel engaged with my site and learnt so much. - I used Squarespace Help function along side UA-cam videos whenever I got stuck or wanted to build on my knowledge. But having a play was 70% of how I got a handle of it.
www.darelleknight.com/ if you wanna see mine on Squarespace? This was using the Henson template, but am looking at changing it up soon with a store and bunch of new work.
Thank you for your generosity in sharing these tips! It is daunting to venture into the unknown and your support is appreciated.

aftrART Thank you so much, this was incredibly helpful! I'm excited to polish things up!
Thank you!!
Thank u so much
thank you!
Of course! Glad you found it helpful 😊
Excellent content which is very helpful to artists. Please remove the background music when you start talking. It is distracting and irritating.
I thought this was how to built a website and not bore me how to lay it out.
I liked your lip gloss
this website stuff bends my brain. weebly is meant to be easy? i am so useless at trying to build a website
