I was at this show. What you don't get in this recording is that every time you vaguely hear a bass signal, we in the audience were basically frozen in place staring at our hands as the deep frequencies* completely disassociated body-mind unity. If you are thinking this was the result of some kind of substance intoxication, in fact, I had to be the designated driver that night, so I must disagree. Also, earlier in the evening, I encountered by a fascinating man who handed me a tape (had a backpack full) of a Wax Trax compliation. The first track being the first time I ever heard Autechre. Orbital played before Orb this night, along with Meat Beat Manifesto, Chemical Brothers, and Electric Sky Church. Incredible. *We are talking massive walls of speakers. MASSIVE.
i believe it-when I saw the My Bloody Valentine reunion in 2009? (the 1st reunion) the frequencies were so heightened that when the lower octaves would come in-I kept having the sensation of being "lifted" off the ground. Again, yes I was sober at that one. As for this show. You are lucky lucky to see all these bands then. All the best to you!

This is from the radio broadcast on KROQ-FM in Pasadena. There isn't any video. The DJ is Jed The Fish who was one of their "regular" DJ's. At this time this station was playing mainly alternative music. Jason Bentley hosted a Saturday night show of electronic music named "Metropolis". Believe it usually aired between midnight and 3 a.m. He didn't host the show this night because he was one of the DJ's performing between sets at Organic '96. I have a Japanese bootleg of this Orb set on vinyl. In the States most copies are on cassette. I believe there is also a cassette out there of the Underworld set from earlier in the evening.
Thanks for clarifying. That sounds right. I would love another Organic '96. But at this point I wouldn't be able to stand all night like 22 years ago. I had to miss The Orb last night because they played a standing only venue

The DJ calls this "techno". This is not techno. He describes what he's doing as an "all night rave". This is NOT rave music (and rave is 100% dead, anyway). He talks about this being trippy music and then discusses snorting cocaine. The DJ *HAS NO IDEA WTF HE'S TALKING ABOUT*.
Sure, it's not techno - but this was a rave (in 1996). It's CERTAINLY trippy music. Yes, the DJ is obnoxious. I had no idea that KROQ did a broadcast at the time. I was too busy having my mind thoroughly blown at the event.
This is definitely techno, just because its different from your usual flavors of techno doesnt mean it isnt. Like you can CLEARLY tell that is electronic & definitely techno what else would you even call it. Who cares if this dude did hella drugs too, it was the fuckin 90s. This sounds like 128kbps potato quality, tons of distortion on the high end, so sad :(
Transglobal Underground mashed to pieces.. haha
Agreed. His voice is the worst part of this video.
Oh, he's clearly not cool enough to know about techno. Like you for example. Or raves. You gotta be cool to know about these things...
Muppet
I'm just happy to be able to listen to it all these years later, who cares about what the DJ is talking about. He had to make a living.
You'd have so much money if you had a dollar for every gurning jaw or super wide & dialated pair of eyes in the audience.
Am I the only one who wanted to smack the radio announcer for his utterly idiotic comments?
no beeld
It was cold dusty and a bit miserable actually
