- These pencils come in sets of 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, and 120. They are smooth, and very rich in pgment, and you can get from very delicate and transparent, to bold and opaque.
Here in this video I review the 36 set and do a little demonstration.
Thank you to Faber-Castell USA for sending me these in exchange for an honest review!
All the Polychromos are colorcoded with the Albrecht Dürer, so there definitly is a dark indigo in the Polychromos range. They are made specifically that way so you can interchange the different types of pencils without changing the color. Love your review! xx
to make a cold gray, just add a bit of blue. These pencils blend really nicely and you can mix up just about any color you want with the set that they gave us. One of the reasons there are so many Reds is because you need a pinkish-red to mix with blue to make more purples .
D D Thanks for this comment!
This was the video I was looking for. Thank you so much! You are the first in a long long line of reviewers to address the issue of pencil strokes, which is the key thing for me when shopping for watercolour pencils. It was so reassuring to see how the strokes melt away with the application of water. So thank you for that! Your video also convinced me that I'll do very nicely with the 36 set and a few personal favourites from open stock. For which my bank account also sends its thanks :)
This is a really cool video too, Kourtney! Luv your videos! You're very natural & say it the way it is.
Dark indigo is definitely in the polychromos range, they have the same colours as the same size sets. If that makes sense.
there is a watercolor coloring book series out there. I think it's called "Painterly Days."
You mentioned you've made anorher video, as well. Can't remember the name of it right now, but i'd like to know where/how i could see it. I love your videos, Kourtney. Please advise how i could see this other video.Thank you.
I have the 120 set of Faber-Castell regular pencils I just order 120 set of Faber-Castell watercolor
Cynthia Dalmaso if you dont wet the watercolor ones do they look like the polycromos?
how much did you pay for the 120 ?
I know I'm a bit late, but someone might be interested in an answer to your question: Yes, they are almost the same as Polychromos. The colours are exactly the same, although the Albrecht Dürer might be a very tiny bit softer when you put them down. But the end result looks quite the same if you don't wet them. You can use them with each other, and layer them, too.
Inktense & Derwent video is the one i would like to see, if you could advise me how/where i can find it. Thanks, Kourtney!
Just scroll through my videos and it's a few videos down its labeled Colouring Tutorial: Derwent Inktense Pencils! xx
What about Permanency? Are these Permanent after water added, and dried, like the Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils? I am considering purchasing this set. I have both the Derwent Inktense pencils and the Inktense Blocks. I just found your videos and will be checking them out. Thanks for posting these, they are helpful.
It might be a little late but yes they are permanent after they are dry when water was added
I'm falling in love with your video. Your toturial is so much clear that I can understand so far but one thing is that i want to know where did you get the paint brush tool with water inside the stick? :)
They are the Pentel Aqua Brush. Derwent also makes them.
Thank you!
I got it of Amazon! It's called a Pentel Aquash brush!
Kourtney Ferro Thank you! :D

Thanks! How do Polychromos and these compare side by side in terms of shades? You mentioned that the colors have similar names (I do recognize some from the Polychromos range).
laitae it's the exact same color range. She was wrong.
what would it like to use solvent instead of water for colored pencil?
Bình Nguyễn Thiên water IS the solvent
You can use solvent instead of water, it looks similar to Polychromos with solvent. But it does kind of defeat the purpose. The Albrecht Dürer are meant to be used with water, which is a nice thing, considering that most solvents are toxic.

Hello. I don t find a good sharpener to sharpen the albretch durer of faber castell. Can you say me which sharpener do you use please ?
Faber-Castell sell sharpeners that work. I mostly sharpen mine with a Dahle crank sharpener. Staedler hand sharpeners work well, too.
Too much talking, too little action!!!
aww there's no turqoise or sky blue :(
I know and turquoise is my fave!
a disadvantage of buying sets :(
I bought the 120 set and there are a few different turquoise and sky blue.
well, my point is, you may have to buy bigger sets to get the color you want.
open stock
oh these colors do not have enough real blue tones and they do not have enough browns ... i mostly paint landscape and a set that has three yellow three orange three red and three purple tones in it is bullshit for me. look at some landscape paintings the are mostly brown green and blue, i only need one orange one or tow red and one purple....
the left half is mostly unnecessary for me
maybe if you buy just the colous which you use open stock it would be even more affordable for you
I own the 36 set and add every now and then some new pencils
