Goldfaber Aqua Review and comparison to Albretch Dürer Watercolor Pencils

  • In this video I compare and review the new Faber Castell Goldfaber Aqua watercolor pencils to the Faber Castell Albrecht Durer watercolor pencils. The new GoldFaber Aqua pencils replace the older "Art Grip watercolor pencils". These pencils go on dry and can be activated with watercolor. They can also be used in a number of other ways which I have covered in the past. While these Faber Castell GoldFaber Aqua are student grade they perform extremely well. In fact they perform as well as if not better than more expensive watercolor pencils such as the Derwent Watercolor pencils. Overall these are good pencils and a great value for the money!

    In this video I swatch the pencils, compare these pencils vs the Albrecht Durer. Additionally I compare these pencils to every other water-soluble colored pencil I have reviewed.

    Thank you SO MUCH for saving my money. I have a Cotman set of 12 watercolor pans and want to increase my supplies, as I sold my Koh-I-Noor set of 24 to buy a Van Gogh set of 24. BUT I saw a Goldfaber Aqua set of 36 and was decided to buy, as I saw some people euloging them. But WOW, your review totally changed my mind. I'm starting to do comissions now and as you said, I need a top quality supply, thinking to go for Albrecht Durer. Thank you! And love the cat, my little furry girl Lynx send cheers from Brazil. 🇧🇷

    This was a very good and detailed review. I actually got the Goldfaber on clearance at Hobby Lobby recently. Hobby Lobby also sells them and the sister matching color pencils open stock. On the open stock display, they have both the color names and the color numbers. They are reasonable open stock. They are 1.49 apiece open stock at HL. Have a little book that I swatch and write the number and color in when I buy them. I believe that you can get the actual names on the Faber Castell site as well. Thank you for such an informative review!!

    Thanks for the comparison! I couldn't find many reviews on this set of pencils for my intended use (customizing dolls) and my budget couldn't swallow the prices of the Derwent and Durer sets that everyone recommended. It seems that student-grade pencils are harder and harder to find these days.

    Excellent review! You put a LOT of work into this, much appreciated. I was trying to decide whether to spend the extra on the Albrecht Durers, and good though the Goldfabers look, I think I will go for the ADs. I am a coloured pencil and watercolour artist, so it will be a one-time purchase.

    Is there a set of GoldFaber pencils that aren't watercolors? I had some GoldFaber pencils but they didn't all say aqua on the side so now I'm wondering if the watercolors. I couldn't find any information on them at the time.

    • @ColoringKaria
      @ColoringKaria  5 років тому +3

      They aren’t. There is a color system and a brush mark that lets you now what you have.
      Red or yellow boxes and tins are kids/school line, blue is crafter/student grade. Dark green is artist grade. A brush symbol means its water soluble no brush means its dry. :) this is just for faber castell products but it’s fairly easy to see what you are getting that way.

      @@ColoringKaria oh no I meant it differently. It was really hard to find any information, and good information on them when I first got them. Now I regret selling them and not giving them a better try. But I do want to get some of the watercolors. I love using watercolor pencils.

      Abby Fichtner all strathmore 500 series papers are 100% cotton. Search amazon or blick for Strathmore 500 mix media paper. Or for more cost and paper option do a google search for 100% cotton mix media paper. Theres a ton of options out there, but 100% cotton paper is a little more costly. My favorite quality paper for messing around with wet medias is “Bee Paper 140# 100%cotton watercolor paper bulk 6x9 50sheet pack” on amazon and runs around 17$. They also make 90# in the same options for a few dollars less. I recommend the 140#.
