In 1959 a group of engineers from Chrysler Corporation began to participate in the nation's new craze; "Drag racing". They started with a 1949 Plymouth business coupe, named "The High and Mighty". They had extensive experience with the "long-horn" intake manifold that powered the early Chrysler 300 series, and began to experiment with the technology in drag racing.
The name soon evolved from long-horn to ram's -horn and eventually the public settled on the nickname Ram-Induction. By the 1960 race season this group created the team named, RAMCHARGERS.
In 1962 the team, with the assistance of a California group called the Beach Boys, made famous the potential of Chrysler’s 413 motor, when it was “powered with Ram-induction”. In 1963 the RAMCHARGERS became nationally famous with two factory sponsored team cars, each using an automatic transmission. The cars were nicknamed, CANDYMATIC, and featured a white car with seven candy-apple red stripes on the top and trunk deck, along with the name RAMCHARGERS, leaning boldly toward the front of the car on each side.
With these cars, driven by Herman Moser and Jim Thornton, RAMCHARGERS defeated all challengers, facing each other for the class championship in Super-Stock Automatic (S/SA). Thornton won. The next day, Moser turned the tables and eliminated Thornton in a semi-final round and then defeated Al Ekstrand, in the LAWMAN, taking the title of Top-Stock-Eliminator. In 1964, RAMCHARGERS introduced the 426 Hemi, and were runner-up at the Nationals to Roger Lindamood, driving Color Me Gone in another Hemi-powered Dodge.
The Chrysler Hemi engines, known by the trademark Hemi, are a series of American I6 and V8 gasoline engines built by Chrysler with hemispherical combustion chambers. Three different types of Hemi engines have been built by Chrysler for automobiles: the first (known as the Chrysler FirePower engine) from 1951 to 1958,[1] the second from 1964 to 1971, and the third beginning in 2003. Although Chrysler is most identified with the use of "Hemi" as a marketing term, many other auto manufacturers have incorporated similar designs.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Chrysler also used the Hemi name for their Australian-made Hemi-6 Engine and applied it to the 4-cylinder Mitsubishi 2.6 L engine installed in various North American market vehicles.
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) is a drag racing governing body, which sets rules in drag racing and hosts events all over the United States and Canada. With over 40,000 drivers in its rosters, the NHRA claims to be the largest motorsports sanctioning body in the world.[1]
The association was founded by Wally Parks in 1951 in California to provide a governing body to organize and promote the sport of drag racing. NHRA's first Nationals was held in 1955, in Great Bend, Kansas. The NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series, the national event series which comprises 24 races each year, is the premier series in drag racing that brings together the best drag racers from across North America and the world. The NHRA U.S. Nationals are now held at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana and are officially called the U.S. Nationals. Winners of national events are awarded a trophy statue in honor of founder Wally Parks. The trophy is commonly referred to by its nickname, “Wally”.
Your "wheelie bar" is actually the push bar, these cars don't have wheelie bars or an electric on board starter. LOVE YOUR VIDEOES!!! Thank you for taking the time!!!
Thanks for the info!
Built a lot of dragsters in the 60’s when I would watch the real thing on Saturday morning, I think on the wide world of sports! Brings back memories. Great looking build, it was FUN.
Wide World of Sports on Saturday afternoon ! Yes we would watch for drag or stock car racing. Only 4 or 5 times a year...the big races. Great memories . 👍👍😏🇨🇦
@@soupy607 thanks Dan for confirming my memory! At 68 it’s sometimes a stretch. Those were some fun times! 📺 😊
Great show.
Right on!
I absolutely love your kit reviews and build video. Just one little correction: Gratiot is a street in Detroit. Gratiot Auto Parts was a legendary automotive sponsor of Detroit area racers...and their spokesperson...I am pretty sure was the incredible Linda Vaughn...of Ms. Hurst fame...you will remember. The word "Gratiot" is French...part of Detroit's French heritage and is pronounced "Grahshut"...the "a" is not pronounced as a long "a"...but more of a "ah". I started my life in Detroit and my dad's house on east side of Detroit was near Gratiot Road. Keep up the great work. Your kit reviews are like opening wrapped birthday presents and just as much fun! Thank you, Chris!
Thanks for watching!
The Elephant in the Garlits kit is the benchmark of model Hemis. The separate crankshaft and pulleys with the rubber drive belt that separated the builders that could wait for the glue to set and those that could. The clear oil pan and Valve covers. And best of all it was really a nice casting with a ton of detail. Wish I could buy those as kits by the dozen. Transporter Trailer needs at least three "Bullets" under those work benches. Just a thought, you all have a nice day.
It's great to see these old kits brought back I remember building that one as a kid like to get it again to do it the Justice it deserves now since I've bettered my skills great builders always Chris 👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Just ordered this.
Thanks HPI Guy.
I had this kit when I was a kid and lost it in a house fire.
Glad to find it again. I am replacing all my models that I lost.
Thanks man.
Thanks for watching!
I’ve been watching your channel now for a couple of years.I was helping a kid build a model funny car and realized I didn’t know how to build a car kit. I’ve always been a military guy. After watching your build it made a world of difference. I still watch your channel because it’s like coming home where one’s friends are. Thank you.
Glad you're picking up new ideas!
Brings back memories of Friday and Saturday nights at the dragstrip. I loved the smell of nitromethane in the early evening!
Rail jobs may look delicate but they sure didn't seem that way doing burnouts or roaring down the strip.
EDIT: Five downvotes from Chevy fans. Get over it guys, hemis rule!
Thanks for watching!
It looks great! I am glad to see Round 2 re-issuing the older kits and I hope they continue to do them. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks John!
Let's grab a case of beer and meet the guys at the dragstrip!
👍😁👍🍺
Thanks for watching!
A crisp and yet sweet result. Thanks Chris
Being from Detroit I can relate to the ramcharger name love the old slingshots great job again!
Thanks for watching!
When I lived in Michigan many years ago I remember going to the Ramcharger speed shop. It was a performance dream. They had a couple different Hemi engines fully built on stands
I have a Dyno Don mercury cougar funny car that has similar fit issues but patience and building these old molds go hand and hand, awesome dragster ! Thank you!
Sounds great!
A must get. Been on my want list for awhile. Great build don't worry about mistakes, they are planned modifications.
👍
Thanks Bob!
Love the Ramchargers race team!!!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍😉
Yeah!
@@hpiguy 😉
If Bob Ross built models......
Today we're going to paint a happy little front engine dragster 😁
So nice of you, I love Bob's attitude towards hobbies and his work! Thanks!
It's amazing how awesome these old kits still look and with such a low parts count. Round 2 can make a mint just by reissues with the addition of better decals and pad printed tires
My thoughts exactly!
I like the way that came out, Chris. Nice job.
Thanks for watching!
Living close to Michigan I was in Gratiot auto supply and Ramchargers. Both great stores. This is my favorite model so far.
Thanks for watching!
Chris I love your model building,I am 65 and starting the hobby again, please don’t get mad at me but I text you a few weeks ago about the glue with the brush in it,can you tell me what glue it was, love your model building tips & tricks, take care,Kevin lowe
Man I built a few 1/25 dragsters, funny cars and pro stock cars way back in the seventies. I also built some of the Revell 1/16 scale funny cars and a dragster or two. Kind of fitting as I lived about 30 minutes or so from Raceway Park in Englishtown.
Great build Chris. I love the re-releases of the old kits.
Thanks for watching!
Working on this and latin jazz is a pretty good combination here!
Thanks for watching!
Black blower belt assembly, black blower belt assembly, black blower belt assembly!! Lol Nice build!!

I've been watching in restraint, I have to get this kit now. Nice build 👌 👍
Good choice!
Well done on that one mate, they are not nice to put together!
The garden paint holds it all together really well.... I mean the modelling lacquers.... Dammit
Thanks Gary!
I usually hose the body down with that darn garden paint and skip glue all together. ;)
Ready for the strip!
It is!
Beautiful Results Again Chris, God Bless.
Thanks for watching!
Growing up in Detroit with my father being a Mopar racer I'm very familiar with ram chargers Gratiot is a street in which ram chargers is located and it is pronounced g r a s h -it I really enjoy your builds and I believe I will be using the Gratiot Auto supply decal on mine
Thanks for watching!
I just posted about going to the Ramcharger speed shop. Is it still open? I remember it was a white building with red trim.
You gotta slow down! I'm trying to save for an Eastman mandolin! LOL
Another cool build!!
Looks like its going to be 2022 now 😞
Thanks for watching!
My initials are R.A.M. and I have a credit card - makes me the original R.A.M. Charger? Anyway I dig the build. I got to watch this race in person once. Thunder Storms got NOTHING on the sound of that HEMI. Makes yur guts rattle - WOW. Again, nice build.
Good one 😁
Thanks for watching!

Absolutely love this kit. I own 2 of the Ramchargers along with 3 or 4 others. Dont remember which kit it is (packed away) but I have a couple with the open parachutes included.
I've seen some of those, cool dios!
Once again a great video. Thanks for all the hard work.
Thanks for watching!
Chris is Rustoleum's number one guy.
LOL, maybe they'll notice me some day and send some paint!
I recall when Don Garlit almost had his foot amputated in his swamp rat in one of these death traps.
Did you know that at least 5-7 drivers died yearly and countless others injured driving these?!
Kool kit though and as usual you pulled it off again
Nice job
Yeah just think what happens when a driveshaft lets loose under the seat "sings soprano" I hear!
Its like the civilian equivalent of the F-104 Starfighter "widow maker"
A driveshaft and asbestos between your legs !🤯🥴🇨🇦
Thanks for watching!
Nice buddy! As always! 👍👍✌🏻
Thanks for watching!
@@hpiguy - yeah buddy YW!
Good timing! Earlier today I was just thinking about getting a dragster kit. 😁
I always have liked how Chris shows inexpensive ways of completing kits. Like using regular spray paint, instead of $5.00 per teaspoon full of dedicated model paint. 💰 💰. You could even decant it and custom mix two or three colors together. 👍
I have a few viewers that love decanting Rustoleum and say they get better results than spraying it.
Awesome
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant mate👍
Thanks for watching!
you always seem to make the decals look so easy. I refused to do the longer stripes, would ask a friend to do them, they always seemed to want to break, maybe they are better quality to what they used to be 20 yrs ago..
Thanks for watching!
Love it I need to get one. Thanks
You should!
Great review and build.thanks.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching!
Ready for Crackel Fest.
omg thanks for sharing stay safe luv scooter
Thanks for watching!
Remember: "We don't make mistakes just happy accidents."
Thanks!! Love Bob!
First... I love your videos. I’ve used your tips and tricks many times to elevate my models. Do you have any tips for stripping paint of clear plastic parts without fogging them?
Thank you from a fellow Sconnie!
No, you could try to sand it off and polish it back up maybe?
It almost looks like the American graffiti dragster by lookin at some of the parts
I think it is.
Chris will you be reviewing the 1957 Cadillac New in stock from Atlantis models?
If they send it, I'd love to!
Nicely done Chris! Excellent presentation and advice, keep 'em coming!!
Thanks for watching!
woly chit i got a 1/16 scale nancy front engine dragster dad had a black version very fast ifin i know dad always had to have the fastest car need paint mostly purple an slicks luv cooter d
Hello Chris, your build is great. I bought mine last week and today, Sunday, I'm almost finishing the thing. I must say that I'm an experienced modeler but never in my 64 years of life, had felt such a frustration. This "thing" is a pile of garbage, not a scale model. Now I can explain myself why MPC is so hated by most of fellow modelers. I will never buy another one.
1;14 That is called a "clutch can" or scatter shield. Lol.
OK!
I've been wanting to do Milner's rail. I'm wondering if this issue still has the proper body section or if it's been fixed?
Okay, I should have waited for you to show it. :)
Looks really nice - thanks for the build.
Thanks for watching!
I love watching ur videos so much they are awesome. Just wondering using the Rust-Oleum 2× paint+primer and the Rust-Oleum 2× clear coat how many coats do u use just wondering if u don't mind?
I'm not sure what you mean, but what I spray on camera is what I spray. Nothing extra or done later.
@@hpiguy sorry to confuse but yeah I was just wondering cause I only see spray coat that is all and that is what I was wondering
this kit was once the dragster kit from the movie more american graffiti.
Neat!
Is there any difference in the 3108 kit number I think the other number is 394 / 12 are there any differences in these two kits they look identical except for the pictures on the sides
Can you do the transtar next
It will get done when it gets done. Stay tuned. :) Thanks for watching!
i did this kit this past weekend, i struggled with the small parts, it was a bitch for me.
ps niiiiccce dou
Anybody at least in their teens?
Nice 🙄💅✨ xd
Thanks
