Congratulations Phil Gaimon, first person to do an Everesting under 8 hours! Thank you for sharing your experience both good and bad, as well as the great work you do for No Kid Hungry. Much admiration.
i think a double everest wont be that hard like this one. Sure, it will be hard but more for the muscles and mental. For 7 hours, you can punch yourself in the face pretty good, but for 17hours, its another system stress. 24h climping world record should suit phil also very good :D So whatever he does next, im exited.
My gawd man. Awesome job. Those painful pictures at end are priceless. Having you in my cycling life has been really nice. Love this channel. Kudos to your buddy Ben. You owe him big time.
Yes, power/weight ratio is the only thing that matters for aerobic performance. So you’d have to be slightly worried if he couldn’t ride faster than you
Wow, massive effort, I can't believe you did it, amazing :-) Also, Ben's so cool, I can imagine it's a huge comfort to have him next to you on such a big ride. Great banter too (I like the "Do you want the kiss now" moment a lot) :-D
Best I could reach was 292w at 62kg.... I trained a couple more months after the last test so I may have reached 300. In the end all I got was an inflamed knee tendon and quit racing lol
You, sir, are the man. Fantastic effort and kudos on nailing it. In high school, if someone threw up they were given the title of "Athlete of the meet" or Athlete of the workout" depending on whether it was an event or just a workout. You were definitely the athlete of the meet.
Dude!! Lachlan Morton just "K2'd" and it was elevation of K2 on all different hills.. cannot ride the same hill twice. Pretty dope! Great accomplishment here, congrats!!
Ok so the street is Mountain gate. I've seen that street for years and wondered how to get there and how it was riding it. Great video! Thanks for answering my questions after all these years
I got to be honest we all love cycling videos this is just what I need to get it going the blood I love it. I always watch these before I go out and get my body moving. I love when I always watch one of these, and then put up my heavy playlist I love like Delta Parole and then I just go haaaaard!!!! Tactic hasnt let me down yet.
The title says it all - why???? But I'm a sprinter... a track sprinter at that. Holding 300 watts..... for that long ..... ridiculous!!!! Mad respect and as of this writing it's been broken, but Phil.... dude ... you've kept it real for SO long!!! Like pre-digital ..... your VN column was the best. If ya don;t puke ya didn't go hard enuff??!!!
Pacing was spot on! A true pro. The GI issues at the end most likely are carb related, especially from the drinks, maybe a fueling strategy involving non carbs drinks could help (just electrolytes). 8 hours of constant carbs consumption can be problematic.
A few weeks ago he uploaded a video along the lines "how to stay sane" and now he does this completely insane thing. I like the irony of it, but don't get me wrong, I love your vids Phil, keep it up!
If i've said it once, i've said it 100 times....the beard is the best thing that ever happened to Phil's face.......Well, maybe i said it to myself when i was watching part 1 but i still said it. Out-loud.
Objectively a phenomenal effort + entertaining quality cycling content + significant positive social outcome. The record for all that, as a whole, will stand for a while. Awesome stuff, Phil!
Nayziko it’s a registered record, you don’t need UA-cam for fame and glory, but you do have to register on the website for it to count officially, otherwise any idiot on a moped with a garmin could break it
The next adventure is a double Everest but downhill with shuttling. You could even make it chainless (no peddling allowed). Where is the longest continuous descent? Locally for me it is GMR from just below the shack. It's about 9 miles and just under 2,000 feet (15 k and 600 M).
I helped a solo rider on the Anchorage to Fairbanks race/ride. Halfway there, we had to help him off the bike to pee, he was in shock and his pupils were tiny. How he managed to continue and finish the last 150 miles I will never grasp. It was crazy.
Phil, you are a monster rider my friend!!!! You look 1000% better without the beard, plus waaaay more aero!!! :-) :-) :-) :-) All this is great for the kids, but hell, shows me how NOT in shape I am. And even if I WERE in shape, I could never ever do what you do on a bike!!!!!!
Phil, your beard with a shorter cut does look better than the long hair you have in this video...plus it offers better aerodynamics Keep pushing the pedals! :-)
Phil : 300W feels comically easy....
Me : 300W I cant talk...
Me: 300W I'm going to die in three, two, one ...
ha ha glad I'm not the only one
Funny you said that I did 6x3' intervals at 300W this AM and was dead by the 6th one! :)
300 w is easy
@@DP-sh3nk i did 6 @ 285, im not even capable of 300!
Congratulations Phil Gaimon, first person to do an Everesting under 8 hours! Thank you for sharing your experience both good and bad, as well as the great work you do for No Kid Hungry. Much admiration.
Phil, I think deep down you know the only reasonable thing to do next is the Double Everest. :P
That makes the most sense to me
It makes all the sense
Or how many feet can he climb in 24 hours?

Or back to back Everests at least
Next goal: descending the depth of the Mariana Trench?
My gawd man. Awesome job. Those painful pictures at end are priceless. Having you in my cycling life has been really nice. Love this channel. Kudos to your buddy Ben. You owe him big time.
So you’re probably 20kg lighter than me and you rode the entire thing above my threshold... mad shit
Chris Thorne
He is an ex professional rider.
It would be weird to excpect anything less then that
Jura Stanić thanks, I needed that 😅
Yes, power/weight ratio is the only thing that matters for aerobic performance. So you’d have to be slightly worried if he couldn’t ride faster than you
I feel devastated for Phil that someone broke it already. Can't believe it.
Don’t diss the effort. Much respect for the record. I’ve tried 4 times.
Fantastic effort, Phil. Good stuff.
Dude, this was crazy. Excellent video. Mad props for being the first person to go sub 8 hours and for the huge charity drive. Great watch
Lessons learned. When planning for your eversting, make sure your counting skills can reach the number of laps you have to do!!
Awesome efforts !! Congrats on reaching the charity goal.
It's good to see Phil taking time to smell the flowers....
Wow, massive effort, I can't believe you did it, amazing :-) Also, Ben's so cool, I can imagine it's a huge comfort to have him next to you on such a big ride. Great banter too (I like the "Do you want the kiss now" moment a lot) :-D
300W "comically easy" - dude that's my FTP you're talking about
300 ftp is good dude
Thought exactly the same (67kg)

Is there a video of this yet?! Rapha must have done one!!
Next record attempt: the hour record!
Absolutely incredible.
Those descending quick cuts were madness.
Excellent video.
Amazing in every way! you somehow managed to keep a great sense of humor from start to finish!!
Congrats Phil and Ben 💪💥❤️. That was hard AF. I love your videos man.
Congratulations Phil, amazing performance !
Great work, Phil. What a buddy Ben is as well. I puddled up when Emily slid in for the nasty hug. Great stuff.
What a crazy record! Phil ticks like a clockwork on two wheels. Impressive.
Thank you Phil and Ben. Tremendous effort for No Kids Hungry!
Ridiculously awesome!
I'm curious about how long it takes for the Whoop to say he is 100% recovered. Was it day 2, 3, 5?
Recoveries above 90% are uncommon. Even if you have had multiple rest days.
Well done!

Give the injury . Great stuff . Congratulations

Nicely done Phil, great effort and mostly great cause for kids no hungry
This is so good, your the man, Phil! Your suffering got me into chasing climbs on the roadie, thanks for all the great videos over the years!
Congrats Phil.
Amazed by this brutal effort, hopefully I can do it one day. Great photography as well and you two are kinda cute together
A few weeks ago he uploaded a video along the lines "how to stay sane" and now he does this completely insane thing. I like the irony of it, but don't get me wrong, I love your vids Phil, keep it up!
Great recap guys👍 on your mind blowing effort! Insane!
The stills look like you took a homeless man and forced him to turn pro.
Or a meth addict (at least we know Phil is not a math addict)
comment of the video love it
That would make a great video ;)

....4 days later.... (but still hella awesome)
Congratulations!
This was excellent Phil, just an enjoyable chat between two buddy’s about a brutal day. I’m also two years late watching this…
Wow, fantastic. Your an animal Phil. Very inspiring.
If you ever get out to New England you should checkout Lincoln Gap in Vermont - steepest stretch of 1-mile pavement in the country
Over & back, from Bristol, on a wet day
Did 6 gaps 2 yrs ago, Lincoln was nasty. Brandon Gap and Middleburry were my favorite
@@pieceoschmidt1 miss that beautiful place! Appalacian Gap is another great one. Smugglers Notch. Making me homesick...
looks like 26.9% max gradient www.strava.com/segments/9695932
Man, the caddy from Happy Gilmour really can climb.
Out of all the current pros, Thomas DeGent is definitely the one who I feel would smash this record the hardest haha
Well done. You could not enjoy the record for long but on the other hand this may present a new challenge/some further geekery.
That was amazing!
Very well done video Phil!
I don't know why anyone would ever want to do this but congrats on your accomplishment Phil
That's crazy, Everesting on its own is hard, but doing it against the clock, full respect
Congratulations! And, you didn't need to tell me I should never do this, but thanks for the heads up.
I haven't watched the video yet; I already know how this story ends. But I want to support you @philgaimon - donation made to No Kid Hungry!
You guys are awesome!!! Nice job.
Kudos for the video production and editing! And Kom-Rad and Phil's banter is hilarious! I think this is my fifth time watching this video.
Those photos were 🔥🔥🔥 the riding was pretty good as well 🤙🏻
Phil is an absolute beast. Hope one day to meet you again. And maybe this time ride with you.
I'm intrigued about this; I have a 470ft at 7% climb nearby requiring 62 laps. I'm just a little concerned about descending while being cross-eyed.
You guys should do a podcast together. Great chemistry.
You´re a beast Sir, can´t hold 300w for a minute without dying, and than look at you.... I´m selling my roadbike right now.
No, don't sell it. Keep training!
All that effort and he held the record for less than a week, lol. Damn that Keegen Swenson
Yeah, that was a bummer deal. But I think Keegen did it with a charity in tow just like Phil, so win-win.
Damn whippersnappers
Keegan has taken the gloss off this that's for sure
Keegan did it at elevation too.
And now Buchmann took it from him
You're pretty awesome, Phil!!
Congrats guys... totally epic
Well done sir!
Phil the intro is so smooth first time watcher and i subed
Brilliant stuff Phil...
I'd love to see Phil go for it again!
Mighty guys, way to get it done.
Insane! Congrats!
LOVE the Tour of Utah Yellow Jersey!!!!!!
Great ride! Even EM's hour record was broken... Next up, Death Valley to Mt. Whitney Portal!!!
The irony of the "if someone wants my record" comment... Oops
Tom Corbett in the same week, he didn’t even hold it one week.
what happened ? did someone take it already?
@@Timtimzi Keegan Swenson took it
is not a record... there is already manny riders who did it faster or slower but they dont use youtube to show

Awsome! I like the build up where your going to everest, but then I realize you mean KOM the everest! Congradulations man.
vomited beyond repair :D ! Nice video. what an effort!
Congratulations on shaving. Oh, the ride thing too.
Completely insane, but insanely inspiring.
You guys are great! 😅
Phil's reaction when he says hike a bike hahahhahahahhahaha
Phil, your beard with a shorter cut does look better than the long hair you have in this video...plus it offers better aerodynamics

Wow such consistent effort. Can you talk about your HR? Did it drift up?
unreal. Thanks for this.

When did Jim Carrey start riding bikes?
Yes! Exactly!
Right after they let him out of loony bin. Better than letting him paint again..
when his buddy David Spade asked him to go for a ride
