The update to the FX30 allowing for the 1/48 speed setting was a great addition. The update in September adding Shutter Angle will be even more useful because it will allow us to change our frame rate without having to touch the shutter speed settings. It will be a great time saver in the long run.

Im so excited. just baught the fx30 last week. cant use yet till i get my accerrories in the mail. My accessories are the sirui 23mm sniper and the sony 11mm f1.8 and 2 scorp 2 gimbal Sirui cage scorp 2 gimbal, 2 type a 160 gb cards, and 4 extra batteries. cant wait till they arive. the shutter angle update is going to be awesome. this is my upgrade from a go pro. wish me luck everyone! best of luck te everyone aswell!

Welcome to the FX30 club, I got mine back in November. Its an amazing camera, which I am still learning. Currently using the 18-50mm Sigma, Sirui Night walker 24mm, and the Tamron 17-70mm active stable lens.
@@DBlizt2k6 was looking at the Tamron lense. Do you like that one? Same here. Still have a lot to learn about my camera but can't wait for the shutter angle firmware update. Going to make the settings that much easer. Happy filming 📹 😀

But you just broke all of that down on such a non-scientific, practical level, til the most beginner level of filmmaker can get it!! When using the Canon C70 I tried to do a cool effect with a couple at a wedding where the party walked by and they stood still... After reviewing the footage, I just cranked shutter because I went the wrong way 😂

Can’t wait for the update, I’ve had separate memory recalls made for each frame rate so I wouldn’t mess up shutter speed when switching between frame rates, my biggest drawback was not being able to set white balance because it’s not allowed on memory recall.

This is an amazing video! thank you so much! 2 questions: If i am shooting in mainly lowlight areas (like inside of a bar for a live music venue) would having an ND filter help?
2. Does this make the FX3 more useful for videographers since the A7Siii won’t be getting shutter angle update?
If you’re using the second ‘native’ ISO of 12800 because it’s a low light environment then an ND would help if you wanted to shoot with your lens wide open and it caused the image to be over exposed. A variable ND could then be used to bring the exposure back to a good level. If you’re shooting at around the first native ISO then the image will already be quite dark in a dark bar and the ND would make it worse.
The ND filter will do the opposite if you’re in low light as it decreases your exposure, now using 12,800 will help , but also consider faster lenses as well .
The FX3 tends to have more love for the software by way of updates, so technically I guess one can say that!

do you know if the underlying shutter speed is exactly what it should be with shutter angle or will it just be the nearest one we've had to use with shutter speed, for example, will it be 1/125 or 1/120 for 60fps?
If it’s actually proper shutter angle then it would be exactly whatever the particular shutter angle deems it being. I relate to your suspicion but I hope it’d be actual real shutter speed and therefore not pretending to be exact but actually exact because it’s a different thing

I was confused as I got the 1/48 on my A7SIII as well after the update. Didn't get the 24.00P and 4K DCI license yet because I'm not interested in it as a wildlife documentary filmmaker, a beginner one.
Why not add 4K DCI to your camera? It's free. It's better to have a tool and not use it, than not to have the tool at all, and digital tools don't weigh anything. Sony does not keep all older updates available, so what's available in the future is anyone's guess.
@@Edwin-- I updated mine with no issues, and been reading that some are experiencing overheating and some other issues. So not sure if adding this would ruin things to me. And all what you've said is true, I'm just not ready to have any problems as nearing my busy season.

Do you have to raise your shutter from 180° to shoot in 120 fps?
No. It just works. Having it on 180 will work as if being double the shutter speed than the frame rate, whichever frame rate you pick. The image will get darker instantly the moment you select 120fps (the way it would if you went ahead working with shutter speed and put it at 1/250) without having to adjust a thing other than the frame rate. It will give you the equivalent of and the same effect of the correct shutter speed that you’d expect, except it’s being by done by shutter angle so it will always show 180 degrees.

Hey guys I noticed when I use 240 fps on the fx3 it always comes out with massive amounts of flicker no matter what shutter speed i use. Is there a way to mitigate this? Is the 180° shutter angle going to fix that?

I already updated to the latest firmware and I got the shutter angle and etc. not sure if there will be another update coming September or you referring to the current one 😟
I don't think the last updates of the FX3 and FX30 already had shutter angle in them, they will only be released in September this year.
@@Edwin-- I updated to firmware 4.0 last week. It popped up on the creators app and I updated it, got all the new updates, shutter angle and etc.

I hope with the new update, Sony also fixes the simultaneous recording display. With the latest update, I can no longer see how much data is remaining on my second card (my largest card) and even when my first card fills up, it just keeps blinking "zero" leaving me blind as to how much space I have on my second card. The camera is also more sensitive to third-party batteries. I don't expect them to fix this but I've had 3rd party batteries for years that has worked perfectly fine on my A73 and A74, but now with the Fx3 (and A74 after the latest update), it doesn't even show me how much battery is remaining, it's just blank. Not cool Sony, not cool at all.
That sucks! 3rd party batteries arent really for me, as if something happens as a cause of using one, there goes any warranty
the only hard part is navigating Sony's menus

You get used to it if you use it often, I started last year and I was lost but watching many setup videos and using it o a daily basis it gets so easy to use, it’s really organised

I struggle to see any real benefit of having shutter angle added when you have 3 memory recall options. It would take a minimum of 3 button presses to change your frame rate (shutter angle then instantly changing the shutter speed to match the new frame rate). But then if you have each memory recall set to a different frame rate with the correct shutter speed also included in that recall, again you’re looking at 3 button presses to switch to a new frame rate with its corresponding shutter speed recalled as well. Nice to have the option of working either way but really not a big deal IMO. With the recent bugs in updates from Sony I’ll certainly not be updating mine in any rush.
Is shutter angle a huge deal? Probably not, but coming from cameras that do vs don’t, I’d rather have less things to have to do overall
I’m definitely going to wait a bit before the update, but if the bugs are fixed, I think it’s a great feature the fx3/30 could use
