I would strongly suggest to include Liquorice roots in your essential herb collection.
Forget the people telling you it taste bad or not to use if u have high blood pressure problems. It is totally safe if use in the right amounts. It' one of the finest antivirals and synergists out there. I have no idea why in UK got such a terrible reputation, but I suspect is the candy industry that put some mud on this incredible plant.
I'm following now a recent book about Herbal Antivirals, and u can tell Liquorice (g.Glabra) and Chinese Skullcup ( Sutellaria baicalensis) are very potent.
Thank you for these videos Rick, they are really nice and well crafted. Well Done.

I have the book 9 times out of 10, I have the book you have spoken of and these plants are very well discussed in the book. I love the book. I received Herbal Antivirals and Herbal Antibiotics as a gift for studying for medical missionary.

If a natural plant get’s a ‘bad’ reputation,my sensors start working. If you look it up then you can be sure it has very potent medical potention. But big pharma , is always behind the bad reputation. The more healty you get,the more cliënts thy loose.

I can't begin to express how happy I am to have found this video! I'm a fellow camper and herbal lover! You're really quite a find. I've read so many books my place resembles you're place with all the volumes and still I couldn't find a recipe for making a cream! I've been spending a fortune on vitamin C and A creams and always wanted to add a bit more like black tea extract and some B vitamins and other ingredients! I went out and bought coconut oil and some other ingredients and thanks to you I'll be making my first batches! Here's hoping no dry skin at all this winter! And much healthier. I did a simple test with an orange and some sugar making a scrub for my face and body. I was astonished at the results! Better than anything I've bought. I am a newb so sorry about the late comment.

Like a family reunion I've contracted Poison Ivy again for the summer clean up in the back yard, I've tried the baking soda/ white vinegar route and two weeks in my old friend is still with me, so I'm starting to learn this and see what can be done to rid my self and prevent this from happening again. so far I'm enjoying your videos, and I gone and picked some Plantain and I'm looking now for yarrow and I'll let you know how it go's.

love the series, and i really appreciate you making them. I came here to learn, but since you asked. Mullen i believe came from Europe, and is known to be medicinal. I believe it has an expectorant, among other properties. And another that I know of that I didn't see in stock was devils club. I don't know if it's native for you, but it was used by native americans to treat joint pain. I hope you find this information useful.

You've got some seriously cool stuff going on here! If I didn't have somewhere to go I'd have the capacity to pull an allnighter and watch your stuff. I'm actually taking this online course, or actually 4 of them (the first one is the basic certification for holistic remedies and the other 3 are advanced and more in depth). I (so help me!) have to do a 2,000 word essay to get my certification, but I am so doggone fascinated with what I'm learning that I can't read only 1 module at a time!

    • @Lavenderrose73
      @Lavenderrose73 7 років тому +1

...by the way, I thought I'd start off safe and easy by making lavender ointment or chamomile tincture to get the feel for it (and be able to share with friends without losing any sleep over whether something's going to hurt them). I have a friend with a baby; making lavender cream or ointment would probably be the bomb for her next birthday!

      here's several suggestions worth trying
Find the reasons why you suffer from depression - the first step in solving a problem is understanding why it is there.
Be comfortable with yourself - this makes it easier
Challenge youself - you will feel better by taking action - especially by doing activities that stretch your boundaries.
(I learned these and more ideas on Martos magic method website )

While some people talk about Herbal Jars, etc. You can make your own "dark jars" by simply painting the OUTSIDE of your glass jars, so that light doesn't get in easily. Regardless you should put all herbs and spices in a cabinet, so as to help protect them from sunlight & heat. LOWER cabinets are best. Though many put them UP in wall mounted cabinets. Remember that heat rises, so the higher cabinets are better for dishes, not herbs & spices.

Hey Rick these videos are great. I just happen to stumble on to your videos for herbalism and found that you and I are quite like minded. I am into Gardening and Preparedness and just recently Herbalism. But it all is quite over whelming. Do you have any recommendation for what Herbs I should get to start my apothecary? Also I have a back injury that I'm currently be treated for but more like something to supplement the meds I'm already taken. Any good herbs for pain? I could really use the Help

Loved the video. Would you mind panning the camera around a little more slowly as it was quite hard on the eyes and causing me to have to glance away a few times. Do you have a good herbal remedy for dandruff. I have tried mixing a nettle tea and pouring it on the scalp but I am not sure exactly how to use it effectively.

@rickvanman I guess it's easy to ignore what a mess we are in when there are such important things to be concerned with like who will get kick off of Dancing with the Stars or who is going to rehab or the stats of their favorite sports team. Whenever I try to explain the importance of the latest bill being debated in Congress I can literally see their eyes glaze over. It worries me to think, how far do things have to go before people start paying attention?

i Sue, I enjoyed engaging in and making videos on herbalism back in 2010 - 2011. It was highly education to me, but ultimately ended up as a short-lived hobby, mainly because I was producing loads of medicines and remedies that I never actually had a use for. I haven't returned to the hobby since 2011 and am now out of practice :(

I found a book called Healing Remedies and it has some Herb recipes for teas, tinctures and the like. You should check it out. I attached a video that I made about it.

Hi could you give me advice on whats good for someone who has IBS as my tummy has serious bloating problems ever since Ive given birth to my daughter 3 yrs ago, Ive taken medicine that has helped but is not so effective recently. I did use to be a snack addict & so have changed my diet dramatically which in turn has made me loose weight to a size 10 but with a bloated tummy & probs with bowel movements which is embarrassing & upsetting as I use to have a flat tummy no matter what I ate but would like advice on whats natural & effective.., thanks ^_^

You should get organic msm sulfur this expels parasites and really good for hair and nails and promote oxygen transport to the cells.
