    Great job! One quick suggestion: Use ‘the book’ instead of ‘a book’ and the like in your English explanation, i.e. use definite article in place of indefinite article as the vast majority of the noun after ‘ba’ is definite. In fact, this is one of the rules we want students to apply when we teach the structure.

      I agree it confused me at first but now it's all clear and it makes sense, when we speak mandarin we want to put the most important things at the end of the sentence

    Hi thank you for this valuable tool , can please make a video one 了at the end of sentence and了right after the verb ? Thank you

    • @lukew.9870
      @lukew.9870 5 років тому +8

      了 right after the verb is more like "-ed" after a verb in English to imply past tense, 了 at the end of a sentence is an aspect marker to show "change has happened". They are often interchangeable, but you can literally use them both in a sentence like 我吃了饭了。

    I have 1 question though. In your sentence 我把书还给他了you don't use the measure word本。Is it not needed because of the structure 把 or is there another reason?
    谢谢你

    • @LeeteuksWife
      @LeeteuksWife 6 років тому +5

      Jeroen Kalthof as fat as I know you don't need to use it, because you're talking about one, specific book. In 把 construction we can talk only about specific things, for example >this< book - 这本书 or just 书 or >this exact< photo - 这张照片/照片.

    • @lauraramon619
      @lauraramon619 5 років тому +1

      yeah when you use the 把 sentence you dont talk about a book, you talk about an specific one, so you dont need to use the messure word. I must say the 把 was really difficult for me to understand at first, cause there are different ways to use it and sometimes i didnt know which one i should use!😣😥😲😲

    Thank you for your videos, you explain everything very well. I have a question regarding your last sentence. Why do you write 了我 and not 我了 like in the sentences before? I would assert that using 了after the verb indicates simple past and at the end of the sentence past perfect. So the last sentence would be correct translated. What is right now?

    Hi, I have a question. Why is the 了 behind the 她 instead of 给?@4:05

    • @ChineseGrammarSimplified
      @ChineseGrammarSimplified  Рік тому

      Either one works. When 了 is used to mark "past tense", it can be placed either right after the verb, or at the end of the sentence. In this sentence, it can be actually placed after 送,给 or 她。

  • @ghotifish1838

    Wouldn't 把 be the verb in this case? And like the verb at the end be the complement to finish the sentence?

    • @ChineseGrammarSimplified
      @ChineseGrammarSimplified  Рік тому

      No, a verb complement is usually placed right after the verb and before the the object. So you will not see the object in front of the complement. Besides, the presence of a verb compliment often is the reason why we are using this structure for example: 我把这个蛋糕吃完了。完 here is the complement of the verb 吃.

      了 can be placed right after the verb or at the end of the sentence to express past tense. However when it's placed at the end of the sentence it can also be used to express the change of state, such as in 我饿了。

    • @ChineseGrammarSimplified

      在使用把的时候,一个常见的场景是出现了大量的补语:结果补语,方向补语等。所以我个人觉得把名词提前,是避免补语太多的情况下,听不清楚名词。所以也是一体两面,即澄清了宾语,又强调了动词和补语。
