This young Lady is a testament on how to recover and she is my personal hero. I almost didn't recognize her. It seems so long ago.
She lived in my neighborhood and I would see her captor begging by the Starbucks nearby.
I highly recommend everyone to read her 2 books.

Elizabeth Smart, I have been following your survival story since the beginning, and with every appearance, every time you use your voice, you exude strength, radiance, and hope that we can overcome the most evil vile circumstances. You are an inspiration, a true symbol of courage. May your light continue to shine and grow brighter each day. Thank you for sharing your story (still in progress)!

    Ms. Smart!
You did a SUPERB job tonight as a journalist! Your father & you both have such a kind, patient demeanor. Who better understands what these victims & their families are living thru than YOU & UR FAM! THANK YOU for opening up & letting us catch a glimpse of what y’all went thru and continue to carry on ur life path. Your resilience & empathy stood out during your interviews with the various folks you spoke with. You made this one of the most compelling newscasts I’ve witnessed. I’ve prayed for you throughout the years and am SO HAPPY to see you take control of what you were forced to endure. You are such a bright & brave person & I hope we get to see MORE of you!
News Nation is the only news I watch! Dan Abrams, Ashley Banfield, Brian Entin, Dusty & Chris Coumo are the most down to earth & compassionately honest Story Tellers & Researchers you are gonna find in the big ugly world of NEWS REPORTING!
You & News Nation would be a WONDERFUL PAIRING! Smart choice Ashley!!! I see an Ashley Jr. among us!!!
God Bless you Elizabeth, Ed & The Smart Family! You are truly loved by the American Public!!!

I was very sick from a badly infected surgical incision when you were taken, Elizabeth....I sat in my recliner daily watching and waiting for you to be found! I wasn't even completely well when you were found but I remember being so happy that day, calling everyone I knew to tell them you had been found! I have tried to keep up with your advocate work through the years and you've done an amazing job...along with Mr Smart! God bless you, your family and all the people working with you to do this difficult work of helping survivors!

I watched every second of Elizabeth Smart's abduction coverage and even though my guts told me she was alive, I lost resolve and let go of that thing we call hope. When she was found, it was so bittersweet. I was so happy for her, for you Elizabeth, but at the same time, I was disgusted with myself for relenting to "statistics". I swore then, and have held to it since, to never, ever give up on another missing child when my gut tells me there is still hope. People are not statistics is the lesson I learned then. I hold hope for Summer Wells to this day, for that reason.
As for punishments, it is this case that sealed my dedication to putting child predators in the ground so that recidivism becomes absolute zero. We must take action to end the abuse of our nations most precious treasure - the Children.
I am so sorry I gave up on you Elizabeth Smart. I will carry that regret for the remainder of my days. On a positive note... I will have hope and prayer to send out to so many missing / taken children directly because of you.

I hope to see Elizabeth on again. I remember when the news broken of her kidnapping. I remember that like it was yesterday because it was so bizarre. I also remember when the news broke that she had been found alive - I was on a date and the news broke over the bar TVs and I completely got up from my date's table and sat at the bar in shock and awe and tears. A lot of us around the bar had happy tears and just kept repeating "she's alive, OMG!". I am so proud of you Elizabeth. I know I don't know you but as someone who watched your story and basically watch you grow up in front of our eyes under the most unspeakable circumstances - you are incredible. You are amazing. You are such a force of positivity, advocacy, and just warmth. Thank you for being so open and for continuing to speak. It helps give those who have experienced harmful events a role model to look up to and remember that we are more than what happened to us. Our lives do not need to be defined by the worse moments, its how we respond and grow from there. Thank you!

Just gonna say if it could have happened to Elizabeth Smart then i dont understand why in many people's minds that it was IMPOSSIBLE that an intruder attacked Jon Benét,
[particularly when there were other cases of night-time intruders in the bedrooms of other little girls in the neighbourhood].
I wish people trew out of the 90s tabloid mindset tbh.
