This boss and its music are some of the best parts of Returnal. As an added layer of lore/interpretation to Returnal's, in greek mythology, Hyperion marries Theia and two of their children are called Selene and Helios.
Thank you so much for recording this! This one of THE BEST boss fights in video games. Not necessarily the fight itself, but the complete package of soundtrack, atmosphere and fight. I had so much fun taking him down.
It struck me in much the same way as Soul of Cinder in Dark Souls 3 did. When you hit the second phase and Gwyn's theme comes in and the boss' moves change to reflect that, so powerful.
One of my personal favourite moments in gaming is going up the tower and having the music getting louder and louder, to find the music coming from a giant organ and the boss playing it. Perfect.
*Spoiler* For those that didn't pick up on it, Hypherion is playing parts of the melody of Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Repear," Which is the song that is playing in the car ride moments before she crashes and loses her daughter. This game is so well made.

@@zueszues9715 it's all allegory, a depiction of psychological terms. Atropos does not exist, it's all Selene coming to grips with loss on a subconscious level.
@@MistaFiOth I call BS. And for that, prepare for another wall of text! "It's all a dream!" is the absolute laziest interpretation you can have of a work of fiction. You can give up understanding a thing, but that means you don't get to be 'right' either. I'd rather we get a crazy wall with strings connecting pictures like from Zues Zues than a copout answer lol For my theory, I'm not so sure about the hybrid alien mom/daughter thing. That goes beyond my basic ken. My theory is that the planet is essentially a 'paradise' in that it generates a reality for its inhabitants they find most comfortable-you might be surprised, but this means a lot of things to different people-when you enter Atropos it makes a 'save file' that continually resets you back to a singular point in time, only fixing you until you find some sort of peace or transcendence. Some reality you can accept. For some versions of Selene, this is simply the peace of death-which is why you find the corpses. Others, however... You see, Atropos is a crazy machine. It allows for interstellar and time travel and the construction of things directly generated by your psyche-essentially granting your deepest wishes...if you can survive the challenges created to stop you. All of these challenges, however, are created by...you. Selene was really seeing and doing everything we saw-it was the program of Atropos working through her mind to find what she really wanted. Most of the bosses are actually different versions of Selene herself who reached various points of 'transcendence'. But, since Selene keeps coming back, it is clear that they didn't finish the process-or maybe the process can't be finished at all-they're stuck, much like her, on Atropos. Forever. Their wish was simply to forget, or wallow in regret, or to simply die. And their wishes were granted. This was what caused the aliens (yes, they existed) to go extinct-they created a machine to furnish spiritual transcendence, and found they were not strong enough-caught in an unending time loop of their own regrets. Just like Selene-their psyche produced monsters they wanted to fight, rather than granting them the peace they thought they wanted. Eventually they forgot what they were fighting for, and fighting became their only purpose. Atropos is a pitcher plant, and everyone that lands in it is a bug. Selene is on the same path throughout the game. Only the golden ending do you, perhaps, break the loop.
For some reason this fight was the one that gave me the absolute hardest time It took me forever but my God the music was driving me mad but was so worth hearing every single time
Personally I think it's the best Boss Fight in the entire game, accompanied by a soundtrack that matches it perfectly (the best of all the others). Carrying out this battle and at the same time listening to this music has been a pure pleasure. ❤
Massive thx for uploading, can't believe the boss music isn't on the official soundtrack. Also love how the organ stops playing in phase 3 when he steps away from the keys...
I noticed the music from the start of the act and was wondering why is was so nice compared to the previous areas. And moment the song got louder and louder climbing up you just realized you were experiencing something amazing.
@@bigmiki2620 The game is challenging, there are some Biomes that are easier than others, like I think Biome 4 was a joke, Biome 3 and 6 were the toughest in my opinion. The thing is the difficulty varies according to how prepared you arrive to fight a boss, it´s recommended to do full Biome playthroughs before facing any boss (increase health bar, get a good weapon, upgrade your suit etc) Dying is natural in this game and you have accept it, I didn´t find it frustrating because gameplay is a blast and once you learn the mechanics of the game, you´ll enjoy it much more!! It´s about having lots of reflexes in combat and being patient. I give it a 7/10 difficulty, but don´t be discouraged, these type of games give an unique feeling of achievement once you start progressing. It´s freaking amazing!!
