Great reaction, it's hilarious that y'all remember him returning to the island. Such a great illustration of why human memory isn't reliable. It's possible your memory has combined two movies or something but I'm sure there's a reason. Very enjoyable, thanks for sharing ladies!
My kids were 11 & 9 when we watched this and they loved the movie, especially Wilson. They laughed when he would talk to Wilson, got concerned when he threw Wilson out of the cave, and cried when Wilson was washed out to sea.
A FedEx commercial during Super Bowl XXXVII parodied the final scene of this film, in which Chuck Noland returns the angel wing package to its sender. In this version, the woman answers the door, and when Noland asks what was in the box, the woman replies: "Just a satellite phone, GPS locator, fishing rod, water purifier, and some seeds. Just silly stuff."
I love this performance by Tom Hanks. I love the ending of this movie. It leaves the door open to many possibilities for Chuck, all positive. I really enjoyed y’alls reactions to this movie. Great commentary as always from you ladies.
No, this is the only version, and I think it's the perfect ending..They leave it to us, the viewers, to decide about what he decides to do..I think it's obvious that he goes and tries to get to know that woman, and they live happily ever after, just by the way he turn's his head to her as she drives away...Here's a bit of trivia. I always figured that they had to film the two halves in reverse. Only makes sense, right?..He signs on to do the movie, has time to get into shape, grow his hair and beard, etc., but no. Hanks wanted to do it chronologically, in order of the story. That posed a big problem for director Robert Zemeckis. If they shot it that way they would have to shoot the beginning first, then wait about a year for Hanks to get into shape, and start filming all over again, but that meant he would lose his crew..They had to work, feed their families, and would have moved on to other projects..Luckily for him another film came up, "What Lies Beneath" with Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer. He kept his crew from this movie to film that one, (so he wouldn't lose anyone) while Hanks got into shape for a year, for the second half of filming..I thought that was a cool story, and I'm pretty sure it was never done before..Only Hanks would be able to do something like that. Crazy!..Of course they had already worked together on Forest Gump 5 years earlier..Nice reaction, ladies!
@charles7836 unfortunately the mobile satellite system was unreliable until about 1998-99. That's when they launched 66 LEO (low Earth orbit) satellites primarily for phone usage. At that point, satellite phones became reliable, much smaller and somewhat affordable.
The husband was correct. She was extremely emotional and wouldn't be thinking straight. Understandable considering everything. She needed time to calm down and start thinking straight.
Sounds like your mixing up the ending of Tom Hank’s Joe vs the volcano where he goes to an island at the end… with the ending of Castaway…that ends at the crossroads…
The theme of Cast Away is that there is always a way to survive the difficulties in life, whether it may be physical, mental, or emotional obstacles. 💯🤔
There is not an alternate ending. The movie always ended this way. It's possible you are confusing this movie with another, maybe. I don't know, if it's been that long ago since you saw this, you just truly can't remember what happened. Maybe you only saw previews. Great reaction though. PS: someone else mentioned in the comments that you are confusing this movie with Tom Hanks other movie, Joe and the Volcano.
I remember, when _I_ first saw this movie (when it was in theaters), I did not understand the significance of Wilson. I didn't really _connect_ with the fact that Chuck _made_ him, _talked_ to him, _argued_ with him, and ultimately, cried when he _lost_ him. I looked at Wilson and saw a _volleyball_ and nothing _else._ I get it _now,_ though. It's human nature to have a pathological need to have something around with something that resembles a _face;_ a face about the size of a _human_ face. For just over four years, that's what Chuck _had._ Wilson's loss was sad, because now, that pathological need would no longer be _met._ I've had a _similar_ experience with the movie _Nothing to Lose,_ from '97. It's a _hilarious_ comedy with Martin Lawrence and Tim Robbins. Now there's a scene in this movie that shows a _security_ guard, late at night, bustin' a _move._ The first time I saw it (again, in theaters), I thought this part was kind of dumb. Then I shipped off to the Navy and stood a few _watches._ Now, let me tell you, standing watch can be _extraordinary_ tedious. The hardest part of it (especially at night) is staying awake and alert. Sources of stimulation can seem _priceless._ Now since I've gotten _back_ from the Navy, I've had occasion to see this movie _again,_ and now I find that scene _hilarious._ That security guard. Why is he bustin' a move? Because he's _bored._ I _get_ it, because I can _relate_ to it, now.
Something’s get missed when watching movies. In the beginning you see an archway with 2 names, then the package with wings. At the end you see the same archway with one name, the other cut off. The lady in the truck “Bettina” is played by Lori White, a wonderful country singer, may she rest in peace. Gone too soon.
Did y'all watch Lost? Maybe that's where the memory of returning to island is from. Lost is about airline crash survivors going thru years of struggle to get off the island back to civilization, only to end up returning to island.
Life is not fair at times and we can’t try to understand everything that happens in our lives or why it happens but as we get older we have to accept that it has happened and we all have to move on from it. It’s a part of our journey! Old man talking! Beautiful reaction ☘️❤️
That ending in your mind is what’s called a “false memory”. Like Sinbad starring in a movie called Kazzam lol. You might have caught the making of about the movie and Tom Hanks on the island talking about filming the movie
I have been absolutely certain of some childhood memories only to find out I was wrong. I found out that some of that was confusing realistic dreams as memories. Now I know not to be so sure about any memory.
Thank you for a great reaction. So funny that you thought something else happened at the end. For me, this is one of the best Tom Hanks films. It has so many layers and profound meanings about life. A fantastic analogy is the line about the tide. No matter what happened before, the tide always comes in, and a new cycle begins. The package definitely gave him a purpose.
He ends at the cross roads, right where the movie starts. He doesn’t have a watch anymore, he’s not bound by time. It’s bittersweet, but he’s free in a way.
Same ending. He turns toward the woman driving off and smiles which means he’s gonna go see her at the end. One hellava a story when people ask, “how did you two meet?” I always took the message that saved his life on the package was the wings. Gave him the idea for the sail. He also painted those wings on the sail.
He's left at a crossroads.. perfect. It lets the viewer ponder where he went from there. I believe you are thinking about the TV series Lost where Jack left the island and then went back.
I watched Godzilla and Jurassic Park 2 as a kid and some how combined them together in my head. Jurassic Park 2 came out in 1997 and Godzilla came out in 1998. It happens.
Excellent reaction as usual!! Great film, whenever I feel overwhelmed and stressed in my life, I refer back this film, and remind myself, "to just keep breathing" and its helped me in situations in my own life, I like to think as he stands at the crossroads, he goes back to her house and starts a new life, the crossroads are a symbol of life, and we as ppl, can go in any direction we choose, the woman at the end, he name was Lari White, she was a country music singer, and she passed away a few years after this film, love watching along with you both, love to hear your comments and thoughts, thank you for your reaction. Take care!!..👍👍👍👍👍
I think the movie you guys are confusing it with is the 1984 film called Greystoke: Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. In there, a wealthy man and his wife get shipwrecked on an island with their baby. The parents die off and Tarzan grows up with the apes. Tarzan does get off the island but finds it difficult to adapt and assimilate to human society. So he ends up going back to the island he grew up in. P.S. you might also be getting it confused with the 1997 film Robinson Crusoe. It's just a guy on an island but he does end up leaving it at the end of the movie though.
1. It's a good thing he wasn't strapped in that plane. He would have died. 2. Can you imagine how much back pay this guy is going to get? He's not a rank and file worker either. He's an executive. 3. To make himself look like an average out of shape middle aged man Tom Hanks didn't exercise and allowed himself to grow pudgy. Production was then halted for a year so he could lose fifty pounds, work out and grow out his hair and beard for his time spent on the deserted island. 4. Talk about using realistic tactics to survive. 5. Wilson is exactly what he needed to maintain sanity. 6. In a recent interview Hanks says that Chuck went back to Belinda Wings. Inside the opening scene package were her divorce papers. 7. When he's talking to his friend and says, "I had power over nothing...." is what gets to me. 8.Tom Hanks is the best actor of my lifetime. I'm 62 years old. FWIW, Morse code SOS= dit dit dit dah dah dah dit dit dit. Now you know.😁😁
In defense of Kelly's husband. There is nothing he could do, but to stand by her and give her unlimited support. He just relied her thoughts because she was heartbroken and couldn't face Tom immediately. I think he was/is a very positive person. Next Tom Hanks movie maybe Philadelphia?
Agreed - he obviously drove Kelly there, but I'm guessing she was just an emotional mess at that moment (and who wouldn't be?) so he was trying to figure out the best way to support her.
@@shawnkelly1531 --- She was an emotional mess? So what? She's suppose to be a grown independent woman. Do ya think Hanks had a little emotional baggage? One of my favorite movies of all time, is with Tom Hanks, and it involves a shipwreck and being a drift for a while at sea, and even a remote island. And that is not this movie, believe it or not... 😁 But it's a romance, and it's one of the most beautiful filmed movies, with one of the best soundtracks ever chosen, and Tom Hanks is in his youth at his prime of comedy gold, and it's the first time he and Meg Ryan were ever put in a movie together. The name of this amazing film is Joe vs the Volcano. I think it's on Max for streaming. I think you two would absolutely love it, it's a heartfelt beautiful film, and probably the best of the ones of Tom Hanks out in the water stuck far away from people.😊

Someone would dail a number and the beeper would "beep" or vibrate and then you could see the number that called you on a digital display, and then call them back on a phone. 👍
Yep, if you watched a movie when you were really little, watch it again. The human memory is not we people think. Especially if you were a child. You might have thought he should have gone back to the island. Thinking about it as an adult, why would he? He probably never wants to see that island or crabs every again. The movie version i saw in the theather, he never returns to the island There might have been another ending but im not sure Maybe your confusing it with "Return To Gilligans Island" but the came out long before you were born
Some say that the wing lady was sending a satellite phone to her cheating husband to keep tabs on him. Imagine if he would have opend it up. He would have saved himself four years and stayed with Kelly. - -- ---- -------- ---------------- Just kidding I loved your reaction ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Loved the movie ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Also remember, Kelly's husband took the child and left the house for some ?? time - that night? He gave her an open door to do whatever - sleep with him, whatever. Rekindle their love. Anything. The husband was somewhere, sitting waiting his horrible fate - as if HE was on a deserted island, with a baby daughter, wondering what THEIR tide would bring the next day. This is such a powerful segment of the story. Could she give up Tom again? Could Tom do without her again? What about the baby? The husband had done NOTHING wrong - nothing. Yet, he stood to lose everthing, too. This is such a hard part of the story.
If the situation was reversed and the woman had reappeared after 5 years, and the man had remarried and had a kid and then got bullied into not seeing her by his new wife, 95% of the posters here would be vilifying him as a weak pos.
Great reaction, it's hilarious that y'all remember him returning to the island. Such a great illustration of why human memory isn't reliable. It's possible your memory has combined two movies or something but I'm sure there's a reason. Very enjoyable, thanks for sharing ladies!

@@Valentin_I One would think that for sure haha. But i think Ryan williams is more on the money. Was funny watching them remember the ending lol
Could be "Joe Versus the Volcano".
"I spent 4 years of hell on that island, but oh well I don't like civilization anymore lol"
they remember Lost 😂
To me, The package he saved, was a symbol of Hope and gave him a purpose to live and keep going to deliver that package. A reason to keep going.
Agree.

Speaking personally, any movie that can get my emotions all tangled up with a volleyball, is a masterpiece. 😉♥
The angel wings on the box may have symbolized hope for him. That might be why he kept the box intact.

Imagine if he would have opend it up. He would have saved himself four years and stayed with Kelly.

Yes you are crazy . He never went back to the island . The movie never ended any different from what you just saw.

He couldn’t paddle towards wilson because the raft is being lead away by a current

@@JynxRyl super cool
Back to the island? this isn't Gilligan :)
Yes you’re crazy, what movie did you see as a kid. No alternate ending
Thank you. I never thought about it quite that way. Good observations.
Believe she said they were sleeping. But, he still got out of the way to let her talk with him.
Or maybe be was just working that night or he works nights.
If the situation was reversed and the woman had reappeared after 5 years, and the man had remarried and had a kid and then got bullied into not seeing her by his new wife, 95% of the posters here would be vilifying him as a weak pos.
no alternate ending.
Maybe you’re thinking of “Joe Vs the Volcano” ? Lol
Great Reaction. Ladies I could watch a movie with you anytime
I recommend the movie Momento (2000)
You're both smart, emotional and engaged. What's not to like?
