Thank you for the video! I'm glad I watched this before replacing the front pads on my '21 Yukon 2WD. My older Yukons, Suburbans, and Tahoes didn't have the brake wear sensor so I would have been in for a heck of surprise after starting the vehicle and seeing all of the warning lights and error messages! Other than that, everything went pretty smoothly and was pretty straight forward.
One note for those who haven't attempted this yet - the brake wear sensor is only on the driver's side so doing the passenger side is very straight forward.

I have been doing my own brakes for almost 35 years and after my experience with new vehicles i may be done. Did my front pads today on my '21 Suburban, rear was still at 70% so didnt see the need, and had it towed to a shop. Did everything correct, turned it on and it lit up like a Christmas tree! Didnt even know there was a service mode, but either way there was no brake pressure, aka barely stopped when moving. Fluid was topped off too. My pride is hurt and hopefully my wallet will be saved. Lesson learned just pay someone else for these new fangled cars 😂

I had the exact same issue. I bought a cheap OBD2 scanner and reset the system and everything works fine. Scanner was $60. My advice is to buy it before you start the brake job. Because it is not safe to drive until it is reset. I have a 2021 GMC Yukon 6.2L gas engine.

I payed $250 at the Chevy dealer to reboot my brake system after I replaced my front brake pads, a simple job turned pricey.

Is everyone getting brake squeal on these new GM SUV’s when brake pads still have 75-50% of their life remaining?

Great video. Did you need to do anything with the electronic system for brakes? I read somewhere about putting the brake system into service mode. Maybe bleeding off the fluid instead of pushing it back into the lines bypassed that need?

9 times out of 10 front brakes are completely mechanical and don’t need to be put in service mode, if it has the feature. However these modern vehicles that have electronic parking brakes for the rear brakes, yes you may/need to put the vehicle in service mode to service the brakes

The factory service manual says this. I've figured out that it's especially important to do this before you push the caliper pistons in or you'll get various errors.

Need this comment pinned to the top. A GM tech thats a good friend of mine told me not to do anything until the negative us unhooked. I did that and had 0 codes when i was done.

Very good review. Especially view of how to remove that sensor. I left old one on there as I couldn’t remove it. After watching your vid I was able to switch out. However, now that I have new sensor the brake life is still at 19% and won’t update. Any suggestions?

same thing happened to me, so i connected the obd reader and clear the code, its breaking normall but still have the service break system and greyed out the breakpad life.
i think you have to go to the dealer to reset the breaking system or find machanic friend with right computer system to reset it.
it just needs to be reset.

  • @semecristian

so THEORETICALLY you could get away with doing this: don't disconnect the wear sensor from the wiring ( just unhook it from its support so its not in the way), just detach the wear sensor from brake pad and reinstall it on the new pads ( if wear sensor in good shape). This way the cars computer doesnt require any resetting, bc you never unplugged it from the system. And the brake pad wear system can be just resetted on your dash. OOOOOOOR disconnect the battery the night before you do the job.
Thank you for showing me i can easily do a PAD SLAP on these cars without taking the caliper off.

Just open the brake reservoir and you don’t have to worry about sucking in air at the bleed screw.

    • @ultimatediyguy395
      @ultimatediyguy395  7 місяців тому +1

The reservoir cap? I don’t really see how that benefits the caliper, it’s not like a radiator cap it doesn’t hold pressure. By using a straw it pushes out the old fluid, while introducing new fluid and since fluid sits in the straw and is connected to the bleeder there’s never an opportunity for air to enter the system. Once you close the bleeder with straw attached only fresh fluid can fill the caliper
