Does anyone know the music right at the start for the first few seconds when he's talking about As can be? There's something in the background that's not As can be.

I believe it is just his live version instrumental beginning to As Can Be, as like the album has. And when the talking stops it's the same live version and it starts at the singing part.

It sounds a little bit like that but it's not. It's the live intro from As Can Be from the live performance. John Frusciante - Moguls, Los Angeles, CA, USA (1997-03-29) [AUD #1]

Whats the footage at 1.50 when he's talking about beach Arab? Any backstory?

That's John at 16 or 17 in Matty Goodman's band Ike. Matty uploaded several videos of John playing and looking like Steve Vai. Matty has an awesome transcription John did of David Lee Roth band's Elephant Gun which of course featured Steve Vai, so that's defintely his influence during this time. Definitely check out Matty's channel @mattygoodman3352 for several videos. They are amazing.

The Untitled #11 I used is from KBLT Radio performance from 1998 when John had just rejoined the band before Califonication. The Ten to Butter Blood Voodoo performance is also from that. John joked in later years that in the VPro '94 doc, he was in no shape to be playing, much less playing Untitled #11, so I purposefully chose this beautiful version. ua-cam.com/video/eZlu1URBtx8/v-deo.html
