Destiny 2: Datto's Review of the Warmind Expansion

- It's time for my Warmind review, which I am giving a "it's better than Curse of Osiris for sure, but I'm not really sure how much that really matters" out of 10. Season 3 itself did a lot of heavy lifting that makes Warmind feel like a higher quality product, even if those Season 3 things are for free and do not require the expansion.
Warmind on its own is yet another Destiny expansion for the most part, it doesn't push things forward significantly, it doesn't feel like it innovates (except maybe for ranked PvP, which is a S3 thing and has been asked for since forever), it simply adds content onto the list of things in the game. It feels like we climbed a few more feet higher on the climb back to D1Y3 status, climbing back to where we SHOULD be. That being said, I'd much rather have a Warmind than a Curse of Osiris and of the 20 dollars expansions, this is definitely higher in the list, if not the highest. How much that says about the franchise is up to you. Vicarious Visions first dance into the Destiny content world isn't a bad one by any means, but it did not exceed my expectations, nor do I think it exceeded the community's.

That's why Taken King was the best expansion. We face him at the end of the campaign but don't kill him. We have to then team up with 5 other guardians to invade his realm and finish the job.

I agree, it was awesome. That's why the hive works. That's why Nokris can still return, and should return. I also think they should find a way to bring back omnigul. She returned once in d1, so why not now? If she wasn't dead the first time around, why the second, right? She's powerful enough to justify her having her own throne world.
Edit: if you didn't catch that, I think omnigul is awesome. Yes, it's a simple fight in itself, however fighting that bitch in that tight little room was hell on earth in some cases. The ONLY bulletsponge boss I liked in d1.

The reference is a statement Skill Up made in his Warmind review that compares Destiny's arc to that of a ship that's so big it takes miles to turn it around. In the end, he said Warmind was the turning around action, and that we haven't fully gotten there yet.

Nokris isn't dead he's still alive in his throne world. Just like oryx when we had to go to his world in Kings fall and Crota in Crotas end for his Throne World. Their just "Dead" in our world/universe. Also Worms and Hive are related to each other like cousin so Xol has the possibility to have a Throne World were he's still alive. But in the end it doesn't matter because Nokris is a Necromancer which can resurrect XOL if we truly did kill him. So in my opinion they might still come back because it would be really disappointing to just kill them easily like you said. *But come on Datto you should really know this*

Most Exotic armor is still a joke, as well as armor and mods. Here is a lesson Bungie needs to learn. If the player can’t notice the perk doing anything, it doesn’t exist. Perks should mean something
Well Bungie seem to be terrified with the possibility of making any exotic better than another exotic which would result in uproar from the PvP community which would result in calls for nerfing. Hence everything being bland and generic af.

At least they did Skolas correctly. Fight him throughout the campaign and you kill him at end and then you get to kill him again in PoE. It was dope. Skolas was DOPE.

Skolas was the hardest thing ive ever had to do in Destiny, and I needed it for my Moments of Triumph for Year 1, and I was proud as hell that I could show off that emblem ..

And there was naive young me, thinking the infinite forest was going to be a hoard mode or something akin to Bloodborne's chalice dungeons. That would've made the DLC (still disappointing but) worthwhile.

With that first sentence you summed up the problem with the Infinite Forest, the community hyped it up and was disappointed when it didn't match their fantasy.
Am i the only one who thinks that the light progression system is extremely limited every week since legendaries and exotics have next to no effect. I want the D1 progression system where legendaries weren’t as common especially from random ads and they actually were useful to increase light when dropped from bosses in strikes

Definitely. I think they couldn't do that because of the leviathan storyline, but idk they did have vex thrown in there.
What Id have done with the lairs:
EoW: Just add Poneptes. Let say he finds in mercury that the leviathan is key in the future of the guardians and escapes the story mission to destroy the ship. We face him and kill him there.
SoS: Xol and Nokris think that the knowledge of Calus is important to destroy the Light so they invade the Leviathan. With the help of Calus and the weapons of Rasputin we murder at least one of them (and the other escapes to the ascendant realm).
Was it too hard to have the Gods be raid bosses instead of the mission bosses? Oh but they had to put the Cabal first...
liam greaney The Vex made sense, since the Leviathan is destroying Nessus. Hive on the Leviathan wouldn't have made sense since there is no Hive, and no reason for the Hive to be there.
Jacob Kern I know it doesnt really make sense but I was trying to find a way to put the hive in a lair on the leviathan. Its not that I hate the concept of lairs but, man what a wasted potential with the hive gods...

Lol, all you need to know is armamentarium for Titan, the hive helmet for hunter and not really anything for warlock is great (just stick with ophidian aspect). Wordline zero is amazing (from my experience) suros is decent, and sleeper is godlike in pve.

Destiny 2 base game: Kill a beefy Cabal because his claw took away the light. Somewhat. Dont forget your convenient infinite super!
CoO: Join up with one of the most powerful warlocks and kill Panoptes, the overseer and god of the infinite forest, and kill him because you slammed some orbs into the ground and used your rocket launcher.
Warmind: Team up with a hero of the Twilight Gap and the legendary Rasputin, one of the most powerful warminds, but Xol wants Mars to himself and wants to kill you and Rasputin. So you go to other planets, for some reason, to get info and return to Mars and slap Xol with a cool stick you found but it has flames.
Forsaken: Stop a prison riot and reatore order in the Prison, but Uldren, and 8 Barons, who yearn for revenge against Cayde, succeed and kill Cayde. You go into a psychotic-revenge fueled campaign to kill those 8 Barons and Uldren. But Uldren is blinded by the last Ahamkara to open the Dreaming City.
Part of me thinks you really dislike covering Destiny 2 on your channel. I went back and watched some of your old D1 videos and you had a lot more energy, it seemed like you were actually enjoying it

Not gonna lie..when curse of Osiris dropped I played a lil and immediately lost interest.but when warmind came out I got back on and became more attached.i hope bungie can just keep improving from here and only make season 4 better.

Honestly, competitive is way more sweaty than Trials - at least on xbox. People seem to be only using graviton lance and antiope - so if you find a counter to those, you'll be solid

Matthew Torres Xol being "easy" to kill compared to other Hive Gods works because lore. This faction of the Hive where cut off from the rest due to refusing Sword Logic etc. Xol and Nokris where always weak, intelligence was their thing not fighting. They had been frozen on Mars for a long time getting weaker due to no tribute. They've been starved, just like we starved Oryx before killing him. Only for perhaps centuries.

Yessssssssss, we def need MATCH MAKING with EP, the event in a public space so there is no reason there isnt match making. Currently the majority of the people who have all the EP gears are the Streamers/YTers cause they can put together a 9 man fireteam. To the rest of us, we cant get this done because every time I go to Mars, its 1 or 2 people there(and yes, I reload the area 15-20 times). Its just seems like all the super fun end game content is locked for solo players, its bad enough Raids and Trials are basically off limits for solo players, and now EP too? Come on Bungie, put matchmaking in this content!

Wondering if you could add your loadout to your description below the video. While I recognize most of the weapons you're using, many I do not. Also would like to know your character tree choices. Why does every strike boss has a immunity phase now? This design is lazy and over used and getting old.

The boss running away and setting their minions out on you has been in gaming since forever. Despite how overdone it is, I find it better than the alternative of a boss just standing their and shooting at you the whole time and that's it. That was the entirety of the vanilla strikes in the first Destiny and they were weak as a result.

I would definitely say its WAY better than curse of osiris and in regards to fun factor and having stuff to grind for I would say I'm enjoying more than Dark Below & House of Wolves. I will add one point that I prefered over curse of osiris that wasn't entiely touched on in this video is having an actually bigger patrolable area....mercury was small unless you include the "forest" and mars is pretty great!

I was so looking forward to the lore side with nokris being teased in regicide I was thinking another major threat and I keep saying so crota was Oryx's son and got a raid while nokris Oryx's son got beat in a story mission I was bummed out. And don't get me started on beating a Worm god with a spear...What.....I mean what.....I'm glad to see them In game but there execution was very bad....I know the lore so for me it was lackluster being a D1 beta player for someone new your right it's no big deal. The grind is tough which I'm glad a about but if you don't raid your stuck with just milestones....There needs to be more avenues to level and I hate to refer but like D1. Great review Datto.

Well the lore actually tells us that xol and nokris are wussies when it comes to oryx's children and the worm gods
Chaostobi5 D2 lore says that. Not D1 lore. D2 lore is written to make the writing teams jobs easier, unlike D1 lore that wanted to make you feel wonder and mystery. And yes Xol has conveniently been made the weakest but he should still be on a different level from us. Oryx had to get power from his sister to kill akka, but we just kill Xol with a stick. Also one mission prior he had us face to face with our light drained, we should be dead. Did he drain out light in the boss fight? Nope...ok... he just did it 5 mins ago though so wtf.....
Bru Bru true he was still a pushover, more than he should have been. So the question is actually, how strong Rasputin is. Obviously pretty strong, i think it was the exeqution of the story that made it lackluster and made it feel like xol was beyond weak. Thing to remember though is that we could probably not have killed xol without the valkyrie.
Chaostobi5 My Darci melted Xol faster than the Valyrie lmao. Yeah we got carried by Rasputin but it's still a bad story because we don't understand why or how. We just know that because of Rasputin we can kill Gods, It's like an anime filler arc. Now that i think of it every 20$ expansion feels like anime filler arcs.

The main problem with escalation is even getting the people who want to do it, it's getting those people onto the same lobby. Did bungie really think that random spit in patrol under 350 light are gonna be valuable to a three man fireteam trying to complete wave seven? It's so dumb
Escalation is pointless to do unless you can get past wave seven. everything below is not rewarding and just annoying to get through. I mean you get nothing for beating waves 1 and 2 and your reward for wave 3? 1 blue and 2 tokens... really? that should be the level 1 reward. I dislike them so much I just activate it in public spaces and leave.

I hope so badly that our September update is like taken king. It was massive for destiny and brought so much good changes and fun things to do. Kings fall was one of the best and funnest raids to date. The Golgoroth encounter was awesome , the challenge modes were cool. The first time seeing how massive oryx was in the raid. The mechanics. Anyways enough rambling . With that being said I’m very excited for September !

Trials and Competitive PvP is just unplayable for an average player, cause every game is someone recovering for another or some pro team carrying one person, and Average Joes like me will never win. This isnt what Trials is supposed to be, its just sad because most of the people who are average or bad are not the players actually playing.
ricecakejohnson I agree with that but the thing is that many of the hardcore destiny 1 fans like it for "average joes" to not be able to play the same as them. Destiny 1 was about getting better and Destiny 2 changed it that for average or casual players can do and get everything hardcore players get. Many of the hardcore players where angry at this because many fought and practiced to get so high and now they are changing that for it to be like Destiny 1. I wouldn't say I'm casual nor hardcore but I am practicing to get better!

Big Worm thats a total defetus mentality. Whether you are playing a video game, chess, poker, or a sport, people play to win. I think someone who doesn't care about doing there best at the things they consider a hobby, probably has more of reason to reevaluate their life. Being competitive is a basic human nature. If that is something you lack, it sounds like you're the one with a serious issue. But with you're point about team shooting, I totally agree with.

You're not going to mention that they brought back a dead character? Or all that they retconned? Ana Bray died at The Battle of Twilight Gap. Then she has a conversation with Zavala like they saw each other last week! WTF Bungie!? Or that Multiple times in Destiny, Rasputin is said to be the Warmind if Earth? Remember the array we raised, that allowed Rasputin to spread to the other planets? He wasn't made on Mars.
Evan Walker Anna Bray was gone for a long time, she didn’t die at Twilight Gap she just wasn’t around after that battle. Zavela was pissy with her because she was nowhere to be found when the Red Legion Attacked. As for Rasputin yes he’s on Earth but his Core mind is on Mars. This is explained in the story missions. Nokris and Xol are hive gods who both fled from the Hive because Nokris was afraid he was going to be attacked by Oryx by forming a pact with a rejected Hive God; Xol. They flee to Mars and Rasputin Freezes them.

this dlc isn't worth it imo. the only good things about it are the season 3 updates that launched along side it, which are free and not part of the dlc.

SirCreepsAlott Every exotic weapon until now are very good. Escalation Protocol is not original (looks like CoO and AF mixed together), but is hard, which is good. The raid is pretty good and fun, but the loot is very bad.
The fact that is on Leviathan doesn't change the fact that is pretty different from the other raids. And there is no "easy money", idk what you are talking about. The money they could earn with a Hive raid is the same they got with this one, considering that there weren't any reused location.
um i dont know where you got your info from but every streamer and review i read on the new raid said it is one of the best raid Bungie has ever done. there is alot of stuff new. just
because it shares the same space does nto mean it is new.
they are not new things of old stuff. when you take something and change it and make it look completely different like armor weapons or emblems they are new. just built on the same coding. but they look way different. your idea of new and reused is way off.

What has made me come back to the game (or at least for now..) has been the exotic Masterworks. A GOOD amount of the exotics ACTUALLY feel like exotics and are getting more use, which is pretty awesome. Also, people are doing OLD RAIDS again.. Which is nice?
The exotic masterworks are the endgame right now, besides finding the new ones. Besides that, PvP is still horrible, but until I get these done, we are basically waiting until september.

Honestly I’m just not getting that grinding feeling as i used to with D1 no matter how hard I tried to like D2 but i just couldn’t.It starting to get boring after a while. Even pvp was extremely fun in D1

I’m mainly solo and casual with destiny and yeah nah I don’t enjoy it and to be honest at the end of destiny 1 I was burnt out and over it, I’m not much of a mmo or pvp player and destiny isn’t exciting me anymore. If they bring a expansion out would I buy it probably no destiny 3 comes out no way in hell am I buying it, d2 should have been a expansion not a sequel and d1 is still more enjoyable. I still wish I didn’t buy d2. Sorry I just enjoy more of a single player experience and car racing games more to.
In saying that I agree with datto and I enjoy his content. And expansions were waaaaay to short and Osiris was hardly in that expansion lol.

Very disappointing, once again. Bungie continues to show that they still don't understand what the players want, after all this time. Difficulty is important, but not to the point that it locks out the vast majority of your quickly diminishing player base. Collectibles are important, unless all they give you is an emblem at the end (the Data Fragments were fine, I'm referring to the Sleeper Nodes). Grinds are important, unless they take every single day from the beginning of the season to the end of the season, doing the exact same things we've been doing already, Strikes and Crucible. I'm not looking forward to grinding 50 levels worth of Strikes for the Vanguard reputation, especially because they've made heroic strikes a pointless difficulty with absolutely no new rewards behind it. I'm not looking forward to the grind in PvP, which will be inevitably infuriating for me thanks to fucking losing streaks and the ever-growing meta that stomps me into the ground because I have to play with randoms 100% of the time. I already finished the collectible search, I have no choice but to wait what will probably end up being months to get all of the exotic masterworks that I want, I can't run Escalation Protocol yet, and I have absolutely no friends who care enough about Destiny nowadays to even log on, not to mention play the Raids or group up for Trials. So, I've hit a wall. I hit a wall hard. I hit a wall so hard that I almost forgot why I hate this game so much now, despite loving it so much that I still play it and want it to succe... Oh, there's Eververse. Now I remember why I hate this game so much now.
I can't remember which youtuber said it, but someone mentioned that they honestly believe that most of the content of Warmind (and by extension, Curse of Osiris) was actually complete prior to the release of Destiny 2, or very nearly so. It would explain why both expansions so bafflingly fail to respond to any of the legitimate criticism the game has received. Honestly, it seems like a pretty credible theory.
Considering we already had the expansion pass prior to the game's release, and the hints about expansions placed in the game's ending (and two more in the Reef and Dreadnaught respectively), that would not surprise me at all. In fact, I expect it at this point.
that makes sense when you look at the release vid for FORSAKEN......it is supposed to be the size of 2 or 3 worlds.......a massive new area, a new mode and a SHIT TON of new loot to grind for
i mean if u only get forsaken you get one of the aforementioned worlds, the new area, the new mode, and a quarter of the shit ton of the new loot. To get EVERYTHINg you gotta pay another 70 bucks on top of the 100 bucks you already paid (if u pre-ordered d2+expansion pass) to get everything. Ofc because I'm a bungie peasant and i'm giving them one last chance ima get the 80 dollar version for the collectibles so if it sucks i'm never touching destiny again. 180$ for an incomplete game? I love Destiny's lore, and I enjoy the game, but I honestly think you're asking a very good question, LadyX555. Bungie needs an absolutely killer experience this September. Not just "really good" but fucking transformative. At this point I'm not sure they can deliver.
Dazidan History is repeating itself. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results. And I did not like the taken king. The enemies just enjoying rescinns and the Raid was a chore with much to much jumping sections.

Well put. Excellent summary especially my feeling on PVP. I was in one of those groups that you mentioned and I finally hit my breaking point when I would solo quickplay and match my own clan mates. Thank god Fortnite scratches the PVP itch while Destiny still has some PVE content I enjoy.
