I want to buy a DVD of this film, but I can’t find one with my regional code or with my countriy’s subtitles on it anywhere. I do have the 1943 version on DVD though. It’s good but I would like to watch the 1995 version as well. So the 1943 version will have to do for now.
What country are you in? I have it on DVD in Region 2 for the UK but I know it's on sale on Amazon.com for North America at $12.90. It is a decent remake of the 1943 version and works well.

Judging by the humber of german casualties in movies; Germans had either an army of a hundred million soldiers or they’ve actually lost the war around 1936! It took odds of more than 10:1 to beat the germans in any battle and yes, there have been exceptions but it wasn’t the rule as is being portrayed in movies or in accepted historical narrative!

Second - the Germans are desperate for water and have been in extreme heat for days without any. Desperate men do desperate things. But like I say, it's a movie, not real life. I struggle to understand why people can't differentiate between fact and fiction and think everything has to be one way, or that the German army was infallible and never did anything wrong. The fact they lost tells you they ultimately did do some things wrong, as all armies do, even the victors.

Additionally they event dont kill a brit/us soldier (not enough to be realistic), so this is just kind of entertainment for UK/US citizens for their national pride.
