Love the charity shop thing. Around my birthday (back in November) I went into a local charity shop and found a pair of Helly Hansen polartec ski trousers with a price lable of £3.50 selling pre-owned online for around £40. Naturally I told the guy behind the counter to take a tenner, he was super happy because he got more than double the price on the tag for the charity and I was happy since I got a sweet pair of trousers just in time for the cold snap at an absolute steal.

Patience and just browsing different brands really is key, lots of good small brands (hiking gear especially) get huge markdowns for lack of name recognition.

Another great place to look for steals is Online Military Surplus stores. These places tend to market themselves to non-fashion audiences, and usually you can get a much better price on items that can you be used in a fashion, day to day context.
I got a Brand New Arc’teryx Alpha SV for less than $300 through this method for example.

Instagram stores are typically a good place to look, but some can be dubious. Make sure to only buy from ones with a decently large follow count to make sure it’s more legitimate.
Also, if the website has a legitimate storefront, rather than just having you pay them through PayPal and Instagram DM‘s, that’s a much safer bet.
GearWhoresAnonymous is a well established one
I’ve personally had really good experiences with CoolGuySurplus/Black Market Gear (it’s the same store, the first name is just the Instagram handle, the second is the website.)
That’s who I got the Arc’teryx alpha SV from.

People have been moving back into vintage and I’m so happy about it. Some things just aren’t made the same anymore cause they’re mass produced or just cause the brand went cheap or just selfish…

Hell yeah man. I picked up both the NikeLab ACG Insulated Jacket & Down Parka back when I discovered your channel back in 2021. Got them both up for around $400 USD total. The Parka is easily the warmest jacket I own, and the Jacket has ended up being one of my favorites, and my lazy go-to piece when I don't feel like drawing as much attention as wearing my ACRNM jackets.

Another great video Anthropologist! I try to not buy a lot of clothing frequently but I browse secondhand marketplaces almost weekly. Like what Ando and you said in the video, it kinda has that effect of making you give up your exact expectations and it kinda makes you think about the possibilities of expanding/augmenting you style one clothing at a time. There's a lot of things to discover, aferall. I came across some orbit gear bags just the other day asking for like 1/3 of the original price so there are definitely some good deals out there. On top of that, I find that if your body is on the less common side (like me who wears basically everything in S/XS) the price can often go even lower just because not a lot of people will buy them, goodie!
Also 16:28 made me audibly cheer that scrunch is amazing

  • @naegibh

I think my main tip when it comes to vintage outerwear would definitely be older lungs era Nike ACG. Over the last 2 or so years it's definitely become more popular but especially over here in germany i've been able to find some insane steals for jackets that retailed for probably way over 200€ just because older people that bought them in the 2000s try to get rid of them. Plus i find they fit in very nicely with any techwear-ish style and bring a nice vintage touch while still having sick functionality. Also shoutout to my 40€ Gore-Tex ACG jacket i got from Lithuania with a keychain from Oslo in one pocket.

I’m not gonna lie, I’d gaslight to get lower prices. I had 2 grailed accounts for a while and I’d message off of the first account to a seller offering a low ball and then off of my second account I’d offer the price I’d really want to pay (which was still a low ball) and about 8 out of 10 times it would work.

Like myself, being female EU xs, EU 35 shoe size, 154 cm tall, 49 kilos.
To get some true performance items - I feel like tied with Nike Kids department (designs are poor) and Chinese dropshippers for pants. Getting sized up items is not an option, they are already designed oversized and are uncomfy to wear and don't seat good.

I feel like the reasons we used to buy luxury goods no longer hold true. I love the feel of well made, soft as cotton. Now that these stores are cutting corners and jacking up prices, young people don't see the value and luxury side, so they're the only ones left to see for themselves. It's sad, and I hope they'll eventually get back to basics and cut down on mass production. There are some knockoffs out there that are very well made now. Recommended *amzclothes*

Great Video! A few years ago I backed a kickstarter which made a great jacket. They're called Oros and I love the jacket I have of them. I'd say it pretty much fits into the tech wear style. Maybe you want to check it out sometime.

So the typo in "no regrest" is intentional to represent AliExpress's poor quality I suppose. This is mild compared to Shein though.

Managed to find some amazing vintage Stone Island for dead cheap through second hand websites. Often it’s someone clearing out their husband’s wardrobe not knowing what the items are really worth. My friends always ask how I find this stuff but the amount of time I spend scrolling through these websites and trying every different (mis)spelling of the brands/items is insane but very much worth it at the end (:
