  • Boxes to builds , vokey wedges of different sole grinds. We are installing a true temper X7 wedge shaft and golf pride mcc4+ align grips. Watch while we figure how to make these play to the specs requested.

    These are my wedges. So cool to see them being built and the heaviness of them are incredible! Played baseball forever and found that really heavy clubs give me a much better feel. And such a high quality build, awesome all around!

      That's really special then Billy. You get to see the love, skill and attention to detail that went into your build.

    Adding a hair of length helps too. I tried mid size 70g, then realized the SW issue. Then found light 55g midsize grips to balance it out.
    Hate having to wait for the glue to set to know for sure

    When I have customers want builds to swingweight, I usually do a dry run. Fit it all together cut them to length and rubber band a grip on the shaft and put it on the scale and see how much weight needs to be added or taken away.

    I’ve used Nippon NS Pro 1150 shafts a few times. 4-LW and with the exception of one shaft they were all 116g the other was 115g. For less money you can’t beat their quality. True Temper Tour issue should be +/- .5g. I’d send them back. I’ve also been lucky enough to get tour issue z cord from GP. All were 52g. Can’t beat the tour weight sorting process. Sad we pay extra for stuff and it’s still not right. I’ve seen sets of TT tour issue with one iron being way off. Quality control I guess. Great video.

    Excellent video. Merry Xmas and a very happy new year. You did a video on the Wilson D9 irons. What did you think of the wedges. Would you suggest a different set of wedges? Thanks

    Couldn’t you have fitted the grips then checked what additional weight was required and fit accordingly?

    Amazing how many people are fixated by swing weight. Static weight and feel are more important to me.

    Great build Jim. Question: How much length can you add to putter with an extension? Cheers.

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  2 роки тому

      Preferably only an inch, 1.5 max. To prevent breakage.

    Do you ever measure the bore insertion depth? I've found, even on relatively new clubs (718 tip taper Titleist irons), that the bore insertion depth was not consistent. There was a .1" difference between the least and most insertion depth. That will affect the swing weight, and length, too.

    Do you use more epoxy on graphite shafts? The amount of epoxy you're using on the wedges is sparingly. I think I've been using too much. oops

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  2 роки тому +1

      Same amount on each one. I like to ensure the inside hosel area is coated with the epoxy, most time I have some squeeze out. That’s why I have paper towel squares

    Hi Jim could the swingweight have been achieved with a tiny bit of added length to each wedge ? He sounds like a big guy so maybe a quarter inch more wouldn't be noticed but would get the swingweight nearer D5-6 ?

    • @nickkouchoukos
      @nickkouchoukos 2 роки тому

      In my experience, He’d need those wedges about 1/2” over what they’re at now. Every 1/2” is about 3 points

    • @phil7493
      @phil7493 2 роки тому +2

      @@nickkouchoukos agreed but what was he 2 swingweights light ? I think Vokey lob wedges are listed at 35 inches, so maybe go 35.25 to get nearer. Then 35.5 for the SW then 35.75 for the gap wedge.

    • @McGolf
      @McGolf  2 роки тому +1

      In a lot of cases yes, however length it crucial for consistency, I’d check first before modifying
