Kids are growing up there Marty, what a beautiful place to teach them sailing, that little skiff is a beauty mate. Your kids will remember you for this.
What a way to give the children a good solid platform to begin their relationship with the ocean and lakes. This expands their life's opportunity greatly. You are great parents.
Marty has an incredible talent for fixing things and making them useful again, these kids will have lots of memories of good times with their dad. Without a doubt one of the best channels I watch!
I learned to sail as a 6yo..1964, never stopped loving it. the power of motors is fine but the power of understanding free wind power as a youngster is priceless
Later in life those kids are going to look back on these videos and realize just how lucky they were to live in this part of the world with great parents.
YOu and your kids on that boat, your son one day will be 80 and remember that day fondly. Priceless memories were made there. The boat needs a little coat of paint and just make sure it doesn' take on too much water. Aside from that perfect learning platform
Another marvelous contribution from Marty T. Thank you for demonstrating that kindness and good ness still exists on the planet. You are raising your children the best way. 😊
'Like a bought one' as my father used to say. My neighbour has just done up one of those seabirds too. His one didn't come with the sail and he was horrified when he found out the price of a new one. He's doing the same as you, puttering around with his grandkids in it. Young kids just love the simplest things, a joy to watch.
Are you Australian? I first heard that expression from an Australian, in Auckland, in the 70s. Also heard it frequently in Perth, WA when I lived there.
@@jaygee5693 No, NZer's here. Come to think of it though he's about the only person I can think of who used to say it. Maybe he picked it up off an Aussie along the way somewhere.
@@waterbourne9282It was in the early 70's, I had just started my first job, in an Auckland computer center. I told an Aussi co-worker that the joint he had rolled was the thickest I had ever seen. He looked at it appraisingly, and said, "Yeah mate, just like a bought one!" I loved the expression, and have used it ever since.
@@walterdowhan2185 Oh, the plot thickens. My father worked for the Ministry of Works back in the early 1960's. I can't recall his father, who had a lot of sayings himself, saying it, so he may have picked up there, or in the army during his National Service period. Not sure. Haven't really heard it since either.
If you have a vacuum source , just vacuum bag it. The epoxy will displace the air in all the cracks without needing to open up the crack to get the glue into it and also impregnate the wood to a degree. A single layer of woven glass cloth will make it stronger than it ever was. I fixed a broken axe handle like this.
@@rsmith3062 I have never tried a vacuum cleaner , but it could work. I use an oiless compressor and connect the intake to the bag. It does about 20~25 inches of mercury. The higher the vacuum is ,the better it eliminates air bubbles in the resin.
@@PaulG.x Great idea, I never thought of using air compressor intake, never would have thought it would pull that much vacuum. Of course the more vacuum the better. I don't have a vacuum gauge, can you experiment with a shop vac and compare its vacuum to your compressor intake method?
I was just thinking about what I needed and it was fulfilled by my favorite family in a special place so beautiful it’s like a dream… thank you Marty. Cheers
Sailing will be a great hobby (and family pastime) for your kids. Besides being fun, teaching them seamanship is a very valuable bit of knowledge, and it could possibly save their lives someday. Wonderful job on the paddle, by the way!
What great parents those kids have, such fantastic memories being built of a wonderful childhood and good lessons in sustainability of your assets. It’s like a chapter from Swallows and Amazons, not a smartphone in sight!
I was 12 when I learned to sail on a Sunfish. My fondest memories are of sailing on a lake near my home with my little terrier dog standing on the prow, sure-footed and taking in the breeze. I only had to go in after her once when she was blown off during a little storm that came up pretty quickly and unexpectedly. I had the sailboat as a teenager and the boat and my little sailing dog helped me in the chick department (I needed all the help I could get). I remember the hull developed a crack and it sat idle for a season. My folks ended up selling it after that. I hope your kids enjoy sailing as much as I did. I miss it now.
I’ve only done fiberglassing once - a repair to a completely broken and dodgy pool motor cover. Had to rebuild an entire side panel. Was a great learning process. Came out better than new. Loved seeing ur repair work
Now, that takes me back! My ex-navy uncle built a small sailing dinghy, when we were kids, and we got to sail it around the estuary, in christchurch, [circa 1960.] Fun times for kids!

A-Hoy mate! You are quite the sailor. Looks like allot of fun. A good life skill for the kiddos. If I were driving that boat it would be a certain crash because I don't know how to steer or brake! I will leave the sailing to you guys!
My hat is off to you. I have had many jobs in my life and have been a handyman in later years but you have me beat. I have been following you for quite a while. You truly are a man of many talents.
I remember my father rowing a boat with my mom and I as passengers. I was only 7 or 8 but can still hear the oars and they slipped in and out of the calm water. 👍👍👍
So glad you have an attitude of fixing the "unfixable". Too many (myself included) have an attitude of "if it's broken just chuck it and buy another." How the planet Earth would be far better off with "fixers" like yourself. Great job. Also, the children looked like they were having a great time. You're a great dad.
Reminds me of when my stepbrother and I got caught in a storm up in the Adirondacks on a Sunfish sailboat, tried yelling to shore to get some help, but ended up taking turns swim towing it back the shore ourselves.......
What a fantastic start to sailing a dinghy for your children. Takes me back to my first present of a Duckling dinghy. A nine footer I think. Hot molded ply from fairey marine Hamble. Back in the fifties wood check and varnish each winter. Your children will learn quickly I am sure. Thank you for posting. Best from the UK
Wow you really needed another boat to go with all the other boats and tractors and bulldozer and excavators and and and everything else 😂😂😂😂 love it Marty, the kids will be sailing for NZ soon in the America's cup❤
Marty, I may have said this before but your daughter could be my granddaughter's twin. Your kiddos are so fortunate to grow up in such a beautiful place, learning to be self sufficient from papa. 🙂 Thanks for your videos.
That’s exactly how I learned . Lake Washington on Mercer island with Carl Buchan( 4 time gold medalist back in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s). He beat me all the time. I beat him all the time with the oars, that’s how you break them.
I really like the inclusion of family in your videos it might be a a wonderful thing to if the children become as passionate at least about the many fascinating things that their Dad shares with the world the wealth of knowledge, experience and understanding . I believe that over time as they grow into being able to choose a path it will be nice seeing if they had picked up on any of their dad's interests and hobbies. Thanks for sharing
I can see a lot of Pirate Ship adventures on the horizon. Well done Dad! (and great repair 🙂). Try to get a look at a beautiful childrens film called Swallows and Amazons. The original film was made in 1974 and it was remade in 2016. The 1974 original is much much better. It's all about youngsters having adventures and sailing dinghy's during the school holidays. It's a healthy mix of childrens imagination, adventure and dreams, and not a single swear word. Your two with their enthusiasm would love it. It was all filmed in the beautiful Lake District national park in the UK. Cheers... Phil (in the UK).
This one dude didn’t come up on u- tube have no idea why but hope you and your family are doing well and staying safe and your friends to thanking you for sharing this information mate.
Oarsum. Looks great. Sailing for kids ought to be a required activity. When fixing those, I have normally put dowels or stainless steel screws with the heads cut off after being screwed into one side and the broken off piece drilled slightly smaller than the screw shank diameter. Just makes the butt join stronger.
Nice little video. FYI cheap blow guns work great for getting glues into cracks of wood and it’s best to use a wire brush to really get into the grain of wood of cracks.

One of those "always remember" moments from their childhood.
You're a great Dad, mate!
You're like every woman's dream, and nightmare wrapped in one, super handy and capable, great father, always bringing home old broken stuff.
And taking a butterknife out of the drawer for some epoxy work.
What a way to give the children a good solid platform to begin their relationship with the ocean and lakes. This expands their life's opportunity greatly. You are great parents.
