A Note To Self

- You know the saying: Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.
Well, honestly, I’ve had the privilege of doing what I love for the past 10 years. Incredible opportunities, projects and jobs have come my way. On several occasions I’ve had to pinch myself, do reality checks and, even now, I still look back at moments I can’t believe I can consider them ‘my job’.
And while the quote is mostly true, with a passion that turns into a career, there’s suddenly this new balancing act I never thought existed:
The need to constantly try to keep doing what you love, all while not forgetting why you love it in the first place.
Let this be a reminder to myself… anyone… to not forget why we love what we do.

Fantastic video! I have allways been out taking photos in nature and I have allways had photography as a hobby and a way to relax. Then I started to work as a photographer and did so for about 10 years, For me this actually took the joy out of it. So i decided to back down and quit photography as a job. I didnt go out as much as i used to and I just lost the joy i allways had going out taking photos, exploring nature visiting new places. This was the best decision of my life
Helpful reminder. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Love your work ❤
Also very curious about Zehn Eier 🥚 😊
Der Schottland Trip war bestimmt spitze und eine gute Erinnerung an die Passion 👍
Fully agree, I am just a hobby photographer and I learned the hard way that top gear does not fulfill my needs. After three years of chasing the best equipment I cam to the conclusion that I love taking images and I don't want to be a expansive gear collector. Maybe my gear is still to much but I sold many of my gear and now I shoot a very old DSLM camera and I get the photos I want.
Lovely how you composed the pictures from the west highland way with you thoughts also the crop of the photos is very appealing to me.
Der WHW war mein erster Wanderurlaub. Wenn ich diese Bilder sehe, kommen wieder so viele tolle Erinnerungen hoch. Am liebsten würd ich den Rucksack packen und ab in die Highlands! 😀
This is a lightning bolt of truth in a dark stormy sky. It is both an inspiration and a tale of caution. We all feel this as artists. We all feel the pull of our origins against the pull of where the technology brings our feeling of self. Who we are. Once a women said to me "You will put down the camera one day, the binoculars, and just walk and feel the wonder". She was half right, because all of us need your note. Yet we continue to strive to share that wonder. That is what makes you an artist: you wish to share the wonder.
I saw this same video on the OM System Global channel. It is really good almost magical.
thank you :-)
Great video mate!
Beautiful.
Thank you!
I love your work! Excellent visuals. Narration. Demonstration of camera, lens capabilities. All balanced. Brilliant execution. Always waiting for your new short movies.
Chris, i was saddened when you moved from Australia. But you have still pursue your passion, thankfully. It is a challenge to tell a story in your photos and the images you share all tell a story that is different for each person who view them.
As usual great imagery from someone with a good eye. Glad to see your work again if only rather infrequently. Give us a bit more man if you can. Stay safe.
Thanks Gary. I wish I had the time to upload more frequently… most my commercial work wouldn’t suit the channel though these days.
Man, the video output from the OM-1 looks so good.
As always a demonstration of enough to interest those who understand; no OTT editing, just visual truth ... well done good to see you out there.
thank you.
This is a truly great video. I like the images and I really love this moody landscape. Just makes me want to go out with my camera again and shooting some moody Landscapes. This video is really inspiring.
Greetings Michael
This is beautiful, Chris. Your words and imagery make this an absolute joy to watch and really bring your point home. Well done.
Many thanks!
Your one of my all time fav inspirations keep up the good work mate
Brilliant as always! Waiting for more. Best Olympus'photographer.
Thank You. More to come! :-)
There is so much here. Demonstration of beautiful images with relatively inexpensive lenses like the 17mm f1.8, the versatility and video quality of the 12-100 f4 with the OM-1, the reminder of the importance of keeping in touch with why we love a creative endeavour like photography. I do this for a living as well, and while I still love photography, there are times and events where I feel rushed or needing to cram things in. Got to give myself space to breathe and enjoy the process sometimes. By the way, what colour profile was used to shoot this video, and how did you do the colour grading?
Thank You.
As for the colour profile. I shot the film in OMLog400 Profile and edited and graded it in Davinci Resolve. I went through quite a process on this one… a little too complex to explain in a comment.
Nice video man! This one is so inspiring, it's widely shared among Chinese Olympus online community🥳 What's the position of all these amazing scenery? I only know it's in Scotland, can you provide a more accurate position? Want to visit there someday 🥳
Thanks. All of it was captured along the West Highland Way. I can only recommend doing the hike to experience the landscape in a really authentic way.
Nice one! I was flying my drone this morning, and thought afterwards I should have taken the scenery in a bit more. At least its close to home and I can always go back, but for travel locations this is a good reminder.. :)
Always a fine balance between capturing a nice moment and not getting soaked up by the gear and technology.
I watched it again and it's simply beautiful. It triggered me to checkout your website, I found that your photo gallery in the
"Dreamwalking" part, does not work. Just giving a heads-up out there since I and most likely many others, would be interested to see the photo gallery.
Thank You. And Thanks for the heads up. I’ll have to fix it when I’m back from my current travels.
May i ask, u shot only with OM-1 or with ninja V? The footage ist amazing!!!
For this project it was shot on just the OM-1. No Ninja V. To keep the setup as small and portable as possible for the 8 day hike.
I greatly appreciate your videos and this one was especially inspiring / motivating.
If I may ask, can you please share whom the music artist is?
It adds so much to your story / setting/ mood - and I’d like to look into the artist.
Thank you.
Thanks. The song used is retrospect by ILIVEHERE. You can license this track on Musicbed: share.mscbd.fm/chriseyrewalker
well crafted documentary abt yourself Chris and beautiful landscapes, share pls thoughts about the new om1 compared to your trusty bmpcc, how do you find the 10bit codec and how was the experience filming again with the new OM1? :)
thank John.
Can't compare them if you ask me... two very different tools for different jobs. But you can't beat the portability and mobility aspect of the OM-1 compared to my 12Kg, non-weather proof cinema camera. And with the 10-bit colour depth there's a lot more room for colour grading the image to my liking. A big jump up from the previous generation sensor.
Hey Chris, coud you please tell me what leather camera strap and clip you had in your older videos? i believe you had ut on your em1x during a shoot you were in a harness on the side of a mountain shooting some slack liners. Thanks!
Sure thing. It’s a LuckyStraps strap. Hand made in Australia. I’ve had that strap for YEARS and it still looks like new. Amazing quality.
I did swap the ends to peak design quick releases so I can swap it around to any of my cameras. I believe LuckyStraps has a quick release system of their own nowadays though. So, that’ll save you that.
How's it going Chris. Haven't seen anything from you in some time. Hope you're well.
Hi Chris, was wondering if you could post photos on Vero app in addition to Instagram. I don't like IG much and like other people I'm trying Vero. Love that you don't have to crop square and don't have Tiktokers in your stream.
Hey, unfortunately, I’m not intending on adding my photos to more social networks… I’ve barely been touching IG or Facebook anymore. Sorry.
