Watched the meteor fall from the 1.0 stone vigil. It was more like a small lookout tower/fort than anything back then. Bit of a reasonable retcon
That’s really cool, I know 1.0 was bad but still think it’s awesome that some people were able to witness dalamud falling in real time
Yeah all the Vigils were the exact same copy paste design back then. Totally respect the retcon there. lol
What I think was interesting about the 7th Calamity, was that it rearranged the land, and possibly even history itself. Your real world memories are of a world that now, never was. The Vigil always was this way, now.
@@ICountFrom0 and this comment is what makes me suddenly realize that it might have looked different in other zones. For some reason I just assumed that dalamud was sorta at the same point of the skybox no matter where you were. Which now that I think of it, is kinda a stupid assumption.
@@SynodicScribe I honestly would have liked to have seen these Vigil's in their prime in Pre Calamity Coerthas. Im aware 1.0 had alot of copy paste and that the 1.0 vigils were possibly placeholders.
You are officially my FFXIV college professor.
Happy to be of help. ^^
@@SynodicScribe And mine too.
I was literally going through this dungeon yesterday to get the armor set for a glam and wished to know the history on the Vigil. After searching and finding very few channels and coming across yours a few weeks back. It was almost as if Hydaelyn herself had called me back to search again.
Happy to be of service!
Interesting fact: Dusk and Dawn is how we say West and East in Polish and I think it may be the case in Japanese as well.
I really wish they'll come back to these old areas, would love to see a "current" world where we see friendly beast tribes and restored locals.
I think it might be an interesting idea to maybe have a time travel quest line where we could go back to the Eorzea of 1.0. I recognise that this would take some reworking to make it compatible with the FF14 of today but they’ve done it before in FF11. That involved the Crystal War twenty years before the game itself, that we visited the three starter nations and surrounding areas of twenty years ago during the Wings of the Goddess expansion.
I regret that my computer couldn’t handle 1.0 and that I never got to play it even though I tried.
@@mikoto7693 I'd also love an expansion or questline featuring time travel just like in XI. Personally I'd rather see the War of the Magi firsthand, but just going back to 1.0 would be pretty interesting.
I always wondered why Coerthas was such a frozen tundra but pretty much due east you got the harsh and arid wastes of Ala Mhigo and then due north of that you have Garlemald that’s a frozen tundra.
Makes sense that the calamity messed with the lands aether.
Indeed. The 7th Calamity's Astral charge had far reaching consequences beyond Bahamut's rage. Dormant aether around Eorzea suddenly forced into an overly activate state did strange things.
I never really thought much about it, and just sorta assumed that coerthas was always a really cold place due to the mountains or something. But I just recently started getting through the heavensward scholar quests and immediately noticed some questions about it. Like the thaumaturge you try to hunt down for some research notes he borrowed before the 7th calamity, and apparently he died during the calamity, while on a boat that is currently frozen in a river.
I got to that quest this past weekend, and the puzzle pieces just clicked in my head and I immediately started realizing how much the landscape and climate was changed by the 7th calamity. It was one of those moments where I just stopped and went "oh my God, that explains so much."
@@althelor I had a similar revelation in Mhor Doma during what must have been the gap between ARR and Heavensward. I had recently gained the gift of flight and the new perspective meant that I could appreciate how drastic the fall of Dalamud had been. I recalled learning about Coerthas once being green and it just smacked me in the face about how devastating the 7th Calamity had been.
Sitting here in my car, having just got back home from a real life history lecture, and I could hardly keep myself paying attention, yet both on the way and back, Im happily listening to your lectures of this fictitious game launched just over a decade ago, unable to stop.
The way you tell all these stories in such depth without any fluff, being as clear and concise as possible, I'd KILL for you to swap places with my real instructor
I once had a college professor who was very animated and passionate about his work even for his elderly age. I like to think he inspired me to put just as much excitement into my own presentations. haha
I look forward to the eventual coverage of the Dusk Vigil that one is… woof, its a real doozy
You ain't kidding....
There's gonna be some feels on that one. >.>
I didn't realize there were such great views of Ishgard from the Stone Vigil. I might have to go back with a camera.
Also where did you get that footage of pre-meteor Coerthas?
One of my supporters held onto old game data from the dark times. She helps me pull footage and cutscenes from the official 1.0 source whenever I feel like the information is relevant. She was the reason my Nael van Darnus video went over so well!
This dungeon imo has some of the best weapon designs in comparison to most ARR leveling dungeons.
Have you done anything on Sil'Dih or Belah'dia? I didn't see anything too recent. I know they are going to be the set pieces for the Criterion Dungeons and always love Ul'dah related lore.
I did a complete history of Ul'dah with two big parts. It covers the foundation and fall of Belah'dia as well as Sil'dih's fate. Check Understanding Ul'dah Part 1&2.
Fun fact(possibly): the art of Ishgard book one subtitle is "stone and steel"
I'm gonna try to keep an eye out on an alt I'm replaying the story with, but do we ever get a perspective from nidhogg's brood, or any other dragon in the conflict besides Tiamat about Bahamut's attacks on eorzea?
Almost every dragon you encounter in ARR has to do with the Dragonsong War. The only other dragons you fight that are connected to Tiamat are the ones found in the Binding Coils of Bahamut.
Thanks for sharing; take care
Just discovered your channel and you have gained one more sub, can you do lore about holminster switch it you can in the future? One of my favourite dungeon from shb
I'll certainly get there!
Another great video, keep up the good work
Extremely late to the party but (no spoilers don't worry) with how Heavensward, and the story as a whole, ended what would be the point of the Vigils now anyway? I'm sure there are some bad dragons still out there but it all seems like resources and energy being badly spent.
They'd become the outposts/guard posts they originally were. This world is still a violent one, full of monsters and bandits. Even without dragons to fight against there still needs to be places of refuge.
Wonder if ishgard will ever rebuild them now that the Dragonsong War has ended
It’s going to take a lot of TLC and that’s under normal working conditions. It’s still got ice and snow damage and it will affect logistics.
Heh, the Dragonsong war still leaves me feeling conflicted. Yes Hvaesrelgyr helped us, albeit reluctantly but still he got his revenge through enabling Nidhogg and thus condoning all that he did for a thousand years.
stone vigil my beloathed
This is probably my 2nd favorite arr dungeon normal mode right behind haukke manor probably spelt that wrong
I could have sworn that in ARR, they mention that the Garleans took the Vigil out from under the hands of the Ishgardians, and shortly thereafter the Dravanians came and drove out the Ishgardians in turn. Can someone help me with this?
I like to learn about the goblins and were they went in 1.0
as someone that watches all the way to the end of most videos I'm got to ask, you feeling alright? You didn't give the "burn" part of burn my pancakes the normal amount of emphases you normally do. Either way hope your days gets better.
Oh yeah I'm fine. I try to mix up the way I say certain things now and then to try new stuff is all. haha
Poggies new vid
have you ever thought of doing videos about specific people? I was just doing a youtube search on peoples thoughts on Lord Lolorito, and found nothing. Which is a shame because, Lolorito seemed uncaring and shrewd, but now i understand that he was just the only one who understood what the repercussions of what everyone around him was trying to do were. He was just frustrated that everyone around him were idiots l0l
I did actually! I always planned on going over all the characters I felt are necessary. I even broke down Y'shtola's early life before becoming a Scion. However it didn't do very well, so I observed there wasn't much interested in character break downs yet. Though there's nothing stopping me from trying again!
@@SynodicScribe i cant speak for anyone else, but i would be interested
@@nicholasletts5849 Likewise. I’m at the point where if it doesn’t go past the bit of Stormblood I’m in, then I’m interested in learning just about anything regarding FF14.
First!
