As someone who lives on a farm and works with livestock, It’s so embarrassing to see these “country” boys roll up to school in a white SUV, soft hands, and boots that are so clean you can see your reflection in them. Being working class is not an aesthetic💀
Literally. I live in a small town in Texas and the amount of lifted trucks that are just pavement princesses is insane. Meanwhile my partner grew up in Illinois and people automatically assume he’s a city boy cause they only know Chicago. But he’s actually been up at the crack of dawn feeding chickens, shoveling cattle shit, and helping birth calves.

In reference to the "song" about taking abusive men out into the parking lot because they were caught abusing their girl: I've lived in the South my entire life and they guys that are the abusers....they are also the ones listening to the country music. Not a stereotype, a statistic.
Fellow southerner here and you are NOT lying. Cause there aren't a lot of people actually living the "country" lifestyle, working on farms and stuff down here, people forget that's another part of the US and not the deep south where going full country is basically an aesthetic for people who think really highly of themselves. The only country boy I ever dated is the only boy who put his hands around my neck with harmful intent, and his friends didn't give a shit because they were too busy abusing their own girlfriends or ditching them because they got them pregnant.
My current partner who grew up helping out on the family farm is a former emo kid and a big fan of pop, rock, rap, and punk music- especially indie stuff from artists I wouldn't know existed if it wasn't for him. In fact all of my friends who live a more legitimately country lifestyle where their grandpa built the house they grew up on or they have a family owned saw mill or shit like that- none of them come off as "country" by anything other than their accents. I guarantee these country boy tiktokers live in suburbia 😂
It's so interesting looking back at what TikTok was, and what so many of us thought of it. The obsession with lip syncing was so bad hahaha but I'm glad it changed

But to my ears, it's more like a soft, subtle "aboat" like a boat. Where as Americans typically say "abOWt." Although sometimes a Canadian, especially those from the Manitoba/Alberta region (and MAYBE also Saskatchewan/Newfoundland too but I'm not as sure), actually WILL say "aboot" from time-to-time. But even then it somehow STILL doesn't sound anywhere near as silly and cartoonish as the American "impression" of the Canadian accent sounds (which probably also has to do with them also thinking all Canadians have the exact same accent and not realizing that's as ridiculous as acting like people from NYC, Boston, Vermont, The Carolinas, Florida, Alabama, Texas, Minnesota, Utah, Oregon, Northern California, and Southern California all sound exactly the same).
But yeah, I'm from Toronto and have lived in SoCal for the past few years, and I distinctly remember a time when I was talking to someone and just suddenly, casually, totally involuntarily said the word "aboot" JUST like that, with a VERY distinct Canadian accent. And I actually caught myself JUST as I was saying it, JUST too late to stop myself and as SOON as I said it, I actually completely STOPPED mid-sentence and SLAPPED my hand over my mouth like 🤭, shocked af cuz I never noticed myself doing that before lolol. I love the wholesome Canadian assumption that country boys are actually involved in agricultural labor, like they actually do something useful, and that the majority of them aren't suburbanite knock-offs that just so happen to be rich enough to pull off that country vibe. It's a feigned aesthetic, and it's really expensive to put up that facade. Trucks, even used ones, are really expensive in the american south. For a young "country" boy to be able to afford a large modified truck that turns him no profit through assisting in manual labor, daddy has to be rich. A lot of the country boys in my area that pride themselves on their camo clothes, cowboy boots, PFG outfits, and rugged, outdoorsy, macho-man personalities that like to go "camping" just own lake houses. Luxury hunting and fishing is really expensive, and that's quite popular amongst the country clique.
And, like, I know that there are plenty of people who live a rural lifestyle, but the country boys with the loudest personas I've ever seen are just wealthy suburban brats chasing an aesthetic in hopes of acquiring manly clout.
