Brian was one of the singers who joined Superfruit for their cover of Rise that you reacted to recently. Yes, as others have said, PTX debuted this on the Masked Singer, sang it twice-once in costume and again after they were unmasked. It's not a capella. They have said that they went on the Masked Singer both because they thought it would be fun to do another singing competition show again since that's how they got their start, and because they thought it would be fun and a challenge for themselves artistically to be pushed to use music backing, instruments and production that were a part of that show in their arrangements. Unrelated--Scott just dropped a new video yesterday for another of his songs from his solo "Parallel" EP from last summer. It's for the song "Bubs", a sweet tribute to the puppy that he and Mark had for almost 3 years until he passed in January, 2023 from an aggressive cancer.

It is a fan video at a concert but it showcases Avi (who blew the speakers) and Mitch on 2 red bulls with jet lag! You should do the 2 together on the same reaction video. Scott and Mitch had a side channel called SuperFruit, I have to explain all this so you understand, On there Scott talked Mitch into doing his favorite song from his favorite Broadway musical, the Play is called Wicked, the song is Defying Gravity. The play is the Wizard of Oz told from the perspective of the witches. In this song one witch Elphaba (strange name I know) is arguing with Glenda about learning how to be the first witch to fly on a broom. (the name Defying Gravity makes sense now). You kind of need to understand all of this to not only understand the song, but their "costumes". The trio of Mitch, Scott and Kirstie who sang together as kids, added Avi and Kevin and became PTX for the first time the day before the audition for the show. Scott offered some protection to Mitch from bullies as he is so tall and athletic. The worst bullying happened when both Scott and Kirstin left for college first as Mitch is almost a year younger. Mitch as bullied and teased for his high pitch voice. He was so traumatized that he lost confidence in singing and do not think anyone would want to listen to his weird voice. When he joined Pentatonic, he felt he would be a liability to the group and it took a long timeand lots of encouragement to regain his confidence

Recommend their whimsical cover of Come Along. It alludes to a fantasy world and uses some terminology from the poem Jabberwocky. It’s meaning is open to interpretation, but I like the idea that they are fairies luring humans into the fae world.

Yes, Mitch was bullied "because of his voice." Except that it probably wasn't because of his voice, that was just the "excuse" for it. Mitch and Scott are both gay, and they both came out of the closet in high school. Scott is tall, six feet four inches (1.93 meters), and he's a baritone. He certainly got some gay-bashing in high school, but not the way Mitch did. And there's a ridiculous stereotype that gay men have high voices, which Mitch's voice seemed to confirm. (Note that somehow Scott's baritone did nothing to dispel the stereotype; bullies aren't known for their great feats of logic.) It must have taken a huge amount of courage for Mitch to openly acknowledge that part of himself in high school; this is one of the reasons SuperFruit's cover of "Rise" is so compelling. When Mitch sings "I won't just conform, no matter how you shake my core, ’Cause my roots, they run deep" we think about Mitch being all alone in high school, with his two best friends off at college, having to stand up to the bullies on his own. It's a recipe for disaster; as of 2021, ten years after Mitch graduated, about 16% of LGBTQ+ kids in Texas and other parts of the southern United States reported that they had attempted suicide in the past year. In other parts of the U.S. that rate was 14%. And note that those are just the kids who actually tried to kill themselves and failed, about 44% had considered it and the report doesn't say how many succeeded.
