It's hard to describe things of this matter to people who aren't really into cars. But for anyone who is, this one of those cars that, when you are in it, it feels like it wants to be driven. Its the kind of car that makes you happy when you drive it.
I agree, I still have my 05 and it’s fun to get out once in a while and drive. I keep it in the garage most of the year tho because of some mods done to the car
I have a 04 GT, it is my first car and I actually just hit 209,000 miles on it today! I’ve had it for awhile now and it’s been good to me❤️ this car holds a special place in my heart
I have a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. I purchased the car back in 2006...I still have it to this day. It's has 227k miles on it and it still runs fine. Just taking good care of your car will give it longevity.
This is one of 2 cars I have the chance to get. What should I get if I get the Grand Am GT? I heard so far the Starter Cylinder is weak, it has electrical problems, and the cooling sucks. I can solve that last problem by wrapping the exhaust with thermal wrap, it would also reduce under hood temps. I could also get the stick on heat shields made for intake manifold also. Did you ever have an issue with overheating or excessive heat? Its just one of my peeves with cars since i live in a very hot place (Alabama).
There might be some truth to the starter because mine acts up from time to time. It did give me electrical problems at one time (it used to make a noise as if the turning signal was on so I replaced the turning signal part). As far as the cooling, I haven't had any problems with the cooling system. However, I keep the coolant fresh. I wanted the GT but it was a 2dr and i prefer a 4dr. I live in Atlanta and it gets pretty hot here (I've been here for over 7 years) and I never had any heating problems. I suppose it depends on the car itself.
I bought a 2003 Pontiac GA GT when i first watched this. You had no subscribers. I come back 7 years later and you got 1+ million. Awesome to see i'm not the only one who appreciated your work
i loved these cheap lil pontiacs...great student cars or daily commuters that have plenty of power to be fun and parts are dirt cheap...hate on em all you want , theres a reason they sold millions of these... the grand prix was better though
+samsquantch14 I honestly don't know because they were closed when I spotted it so didn't get a good look at it but I'm going to look at it tomorrow after school
803nigel thats.cool they didnt vary all that much.around here id guess its a 4 banger for that price and mileage.but yeah if its a 3400 do it.thing will give you almost 30 on the highway and will also burn the tires and smoke ricers lol ;)
+samsquantch14 I bought myself my first car over a month ago; a 2005 Pontiac grand am 3400 series. Just the SE version but I love it! It's custom painted matte black, and I'm about to change the exhaust for flowmasters. I love the power it has with that 3.4L. It certainly does leave ricers in the dust, and I've burnt the rubber on my tires many times with the amount of torque this thing comes with stock. It did have a few problems when I bought it- (aftermarket cooling fan, and a bad AC compressor, and bad rear drum brakes) but it was all fairly cheap to repair and now has no problems. I love these pontiacs and recommend them to anyone looking for a good first car.
Just bought one last week. 2004 GT coupe, 211,000 miles. It runs so well. Nothing wrong except it needs a radio. My dad had it for a year and chose to sell it to me because i needed a car. Love it.
Have a 2005 GT1 SC\T in red. Only drive in the summer and love that car. The cool thing about these cars now is it stands out. There are almost zero out there anymore (at least where I am). Red with the GT hood perfect summer car.
Zacry Carmichael Got one too I fixed up saved it from the junkyard it’s not perfect wont ever be new again but sure the hell looks a lot better then it was engine and trans run perfect haven’t even needed to touch those
To everyone who thinks this car is bad. It isn't. When i first got one... i though nothing of it... it was just a car. But slowly... it really grew on me. I LOVE my Grand Am..Its no super car. There is a reason you get them for well below $10,000. The interior is sorta 90s, as the first version of this model of Grand Am came out in 1999 and the interior stayed the same til 05. I think it looks cool, and its fun to customize... Hondas are plain and boring.. this is exciting and different..
2002 pontiac grand am gt my first car, I love it its so nice and comfortable to drive so easy feels like it's just driving itself. For it only having 175 hp it feels so power so fast
Awww...man I loved that car. I used have one exactly like that. The only issue I ever had with that car is that it seemed to eat brake pad for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It was a great car I had a lot of fun with that. I love my Pontiac G8, but my old Grand Am GT that was a good little car.
I was lucky enough to own both too. I was trying to turn my grand am into a lil tuner and loved it for years. The G8 GT was leagues ahead of it but loved both
my grand am is at 225,000 miles. still runnin like a champ. never had to do any mechanical replacements except basic maintenance (oil, tires, spark plugs, battery etc.) still got good torque, i get on the interstate leaving work everyday, floor it, 30-80mph in 8 seconds flat
Grand Ams are pretty good runners if reasonably taken care of. Engine might not be impressive, and the transmission is a tad weak, but the secret sauce for this model is in the handling. (Don't let the McPherson struts, car size, and slightly wide turn radius in parking lots fool you at first. You have to get on it while moving to see how it stays flat and balances out well.) Some sticky tires and curvy roads is what makes an otherwise practical and inexpensive car of this size a lot more fun than it should be.
I absolutely love my 02, which was the last year for the competition door mirrors (any after that year had those droopy dog ear things). I decided to do some work to it so I can really enjoy it including; cat-back exhaust, 65mm throttle body, larger ported upper intake manifold and heads, new universal catalytic converter, ceramic coated headers, and an aftermarket PCM that let re-stage transmission timing, and piston firing. She purs really nice now, a little loud but sounds aggressive.
George Rickett Thanks, it's nice to get positive feedback instead of the relentless taunts because I did all that work to "Just a Pontiac". Honesty, Pontiac made a very nice vehicle with the GA's and they aren't hard to fix, nor maintain either. And besides, people tune up old Hondas all the time so whats the difference, other than the GA GT has a 6 cyl. Not to mention I have no car payment so it frees me up. And the build was not very costly at all, a couple grand, that was it
Astonvman007 not hard to fix? Lol there's no room in these engine bays I thought, anyway do you know how to get to the transmission oil? Do I have to remove the big plastic box? I think that has something to do with air
George Rickett The transmission has to be serviced by the props I'm afraid since there's no proper access point to do any work. You're absolutely right about there not being much room in the engine bay, but it depends on the work being done. Even if you have to take the car somewhere, it won't cost as much as other vehicles. My Bimmer is really expensive compared to the old GA
Everyone, please stop calling it "E-brake" - it's not for emergencies, it's for parking, and this type of parking brake is called either a "parking brake" or "hand brake." When it's located in the foot-well or is electronically controlled, it is just called a parking break.
I love this car, always have since I first rode in my friend's. This guy forgot to mention that the back seats fold down to expose the trunk from the inside though ;)
I had a white '05 grand am...loved it, easy ride, cheap to maintain, etc. but I caved in when every person that rode in it said I should get a new one....I should've ignored them :/
I agree with you 110%. I have a 1993 Chevy Blazer with almost 300,000 miles. The only major break down I have ever had was my fuel pump died... But it's still going strong. I would rather have an older car like my blazer, your Cadillac, or this Pontiac. Much cheaper to work on if something actually does break down.
I love my GT! have had it for 5 years, very minor problems, windows came off the track but that was a 30 minute fix, and the turn signal wiring shorted out also a quick fix.
I used to have a pontiac Grand am GT, it was in bad shape but I put lots of money into it to have it rebuilt and back the way it was bought it in 2017, had it 2 full good years with lots of good memories, she was great car for a short time, bought it with 151k on it, but sadly one big issue I could not repair was the rust done to the frame from time and the previous owner not taking proper care of her, but what made me give up on the car after 2yrs was the head gaskets blew 1 had the whole engine rebuilt, everything then 35k more miles after rebuilt blew another one, it was time to give her up, but she was a great car, for V6 3.4lt a great car.
When I worked for Hertz back in 05 I used to love how ballsy the Grand Am's were at the low end.. They totally fell apart at the top end once you got going but it was nice to feel that little shove off the line.
A lot of people like to bash the design of the Grand Am these days due to its body gladding and flashy interior but I loved this car as a teen. My "Victory Red" sedan got lots of looks and compliments and was a blast to drive at the time. Unfortunately she wasn't as fast as she looked...
Damn General Motors for discontinuing the entire Pontiac line! I owned 3 Grand AM's & the last one I cried like a baby when I sold her. They were faithful cars that took me thru blizzards, wind & rain storms, & hellish heatwaves. I was set to be a Grand AM customer for life! Now my Nissan Sentra is a close runner-up but my heart still loves the Grand AM.
Just2Intense agree completely... Pontiacs were basically nicer looking Chevys with a little more performance. Really wish GM would bring them back along with a midsize coupe that looks nice and doesn’t break the bank.
i think people keep forgetting that this engine makes over 200 ft lbs of torque. which is actaully quite decent. this thing will pull away from most pf the cars on the road surprisingly
I love these cars so much. I traded my white '05 GT on my '11 Camaro RS and kind of regret it. The Grand Am was smaller and lighter, so it felt sportier and more fun to drive. The Monsoon system was fantastic and it got great gas mileage. I also wouldn't have a car payment if I still had it haha. I wish I could buy it back, but knowing how people usually treat these cars, it's probably trashed by now :(
I drive one of these but a 03 great car lots of power and extremely reliable mine has over 300,000 miles cant say enough good things about this car i have no idea what i would replace it with
When you can change your transmission oil filter and put a synthetic Amsoil in there.. help my vehicle shft a lot smoother. I had metal shavings. But it shifts smooth now.. as soon as the tranny oil started glugging I put the cap in. Another thing is the red ELC coolant.. it lasts a hundred fifty thousand miles! Change that. And your other fluids and it should last a long time
My mom is getting me one on my BIRTHDAY in February of 2018!!!! I CANT WAIT! THIS CAR has been my biggest dream since I was 4 and I'm finally about to get one!!!!!😁
Bought a 2003 Grand Am GT. Didn't love it at first, but it's growing on me. I really was hoping for a Saab 9-3, but it's cheaper cousin will do for now. Glad to read such good things about it in the comments!
I always thought these were cool when the first came out. Even nearly 20 years later, they are still good looking cars. The HP is lacking, but who knew HP would be so high today, for the time these were more than adequate. I'm sure even for daily driving in modern traffic these cars would hold up just fine.
You're right about that, this Grand Am is definitely quicker than the Civics, Corollas, and Fortes, and faster than the army of CUV's that have invaded our roads in the past 5 years or so.
They're pretty light and have good power to weight, plus less restrictions just a speed governer. My N/A 3.8 bonneville will outrun a v6 charger simply because of that. The charger does have more horsepower, gears, rwd, buts it's also fatter, and less aerodynamic. Pontiac had a pretty good profile, very good at cutting through the air.
BOUGHT THIS BRAND NEW IN 2006 LEFT FROM 2005 HAD TO SAY GOODBYE AFTER 13+YEARS LOVE THIS CAR ! THEY NEED TO BRING IT BACK GREAT CAR IT WAS MY FREIND VERY RELIABLE AND FUN TO DRIVE SILVER GRAND AM THANK YOU PONTIAC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I actually bought it at 245k. the lady who had it before me drove 130 miles to and from work everyday. highway miles just cause much less wear and tear. other than that, just basic oil changes and the occasional tune-up. i just had to replace my power steering pump yesterday but except for that i just don't really beat the piss out of it... haha they run forever if you show them a little love
I agree i own an 02 GT1 with 138.000 even and the only defect i have found so far is the window regulator clips they could've made them a little better. Aside from that great running cars.
My dad had a 2001 grand am gt coupe, fully optioned out. He absolutely loved that car, and let it run to over 250k miles. he went through only one head gasket, and one transmission, that's all that happened to it. the engine eventually died, and my dad needed a new car anyways, so he had to get rid of it.
I gotta say This guy did a really good job reviewing this car .....for real and I appreciate this guy I really do thank you for revin it up most people are to scared to do that on a review I want to know how it sounds and how it looks cause I'm about to buy one of these cars
Had a 02 GT coupe and miss it. The car had great steering, looked nice and had good acceleration. The car was a nice size but not too big and had a nice solid substantial feel to it. Reason I traded the car in is because the same things kept going wrong over and over; GM needs to improve the quality of their replacement parts. That much being said I liked it more than what I have now.
i actually like how he mostly reviews just regular everyday cars. cause all those super cars are overrated and everyone already knows about em. so reviewing plain everyday cars can help you appreciate the car more or see what is really a good car and what isnt
I have had my 02 grand am se since sept. 2012 and i love it! its my first car it is an awesome car to drive and since i have had it i have no problems.
I love mine, i have a 02 with 187,000+ miles on it, and not a single thing wrong with it, they are cool looking cars, and are sporty, and are quite fun to drive. I was surprised by it... =)
The Ram-Air induction system does not funnel air "directly into the engine" as you say, it still has to go through the air-filter and box before it arrives at the intake manifold. Ram-Air is a type of intake which compresses air by using funnel-geometry. More air volume makes for more complete ignition of fuel, which makes more power than with lesser volume of air supply.
Hey Kyle! Been watchin ur vids for awhile now, love the fact that ua have similuar taste in cars...Keep the late 80s/90s cars commin....The unique ones...One of my fav vids was on the Olds Toronado, think it was an 88?...Usually pop cans now, and u just dont see them...Awesome cars, as was the Riv!...Keep em commin bud.
I wish the fuel economy was better on these. I feel like I fill up way too often with the amount that I drive. They sound pretty good, I had a magnaflow muffler put on mine along with stainless tips. Looks great and the shop did a good job of making it look stock.
It looks like they didnt change anything from my wifes 2000 gt. She loves the little road rocket. The stock sound system is crazy loud . 160,000 miles on it and its needed the usual struts and wheel bearings and a few minor items replaced but overall a solid car.
I think I've just found my first car. I was thinking about getting a 1994 to 2004 V6 model mustang, but now I'm thinking about going for one of these instead.
I have a 2005 Grand Am myself and IMO I think you should look for something better. I've had mine since December 2008 I always kept it maintained recently put a performance exhaust muffler on it to get a little more fun out of driving it but I still want to trade it in for something better due to the problems (head gasket, security light, etc.) I'm having with it both before and after my extended warranty expired 4 months ago. But if you wanna take a risk with this car It's totally up to you.
I personally own a Grand Am. Its a 4-door SE version though... but hey... I love my Grand Am. Its inexpensive, its interesting looking, and sporty.. yeah its a plastic-y inside, but hey... its an inexpensive car... its ment to cost less... I love it.. and its really fun to customize... =)
There was no 3.8 available for the Grand-Am; the Grand-Am is on the GM N-body. More specifically, 2005 was with in the 2nd generation N-body that could not fit the 3.8 as the 3.8 was too wide. This is because the 3.8 is a 90 degree V6 while the 3.1 & 3.4 are 60 degree V6's. To answer your other question, by 2005 GM was utilizing the Series III 3.8; 200 HP on the N/A, 260 on the super charged. You are thinking about the Grand Prix, the W-body; the W-body is the next size up from the N-body.
They should have dropped a V8 in it like the 5.3L the Grand Prix got in 05. Imagine the power in this low weight coupe, would be really badass for a project car. The whole Ram Air package is nothing to be proud of, especially with 175hp. They should have enleast done what Grand Am owners do to get cold air and route the piping and filter into the fender to get fresh cold air.
mom has this version of the Grand Am and I love the exhaust on it but we still don’t know what manufacturer made the exhaust but it sounds better the exhaust system on your GT
i'm looking into getting one of these as my 1st car. I've heard nothing but good about them so far! it'd be awesome if they would have made a GXP version with like the supercharged 3.8 from like the Bonneville or something.
this car in GT form was very sporting....available traction control and ram air....the interior was a far design departure from other GMs in the same segment...private sellers or even lot prices have tanked for this generation...this being the last of the Grand Ams....but still ive seen many run for over 200.000 miles....the workmanship is abit horrid...and anything that requires a small motor...windows...mirrors...seats.....AC..heat blend doors...are going to fail.....so while the engine will keep going....the car will drive you nutty with all the small things malfunctioning....still for the money....alot of style and worth buying...got to love the red interior lights...signature Pontiac....
Illinois Adventures Yep I got a Grand Am SE list of things it has. Traction control ABS Leather Seats Moon Roof Disc Brakes X4 Ram Air Monsoon Radio Exhaust Pipes X4 Dual Post Mirrors And it’s not a GT plus it’s the 3.4 V6 as well.
This vid makes me kinda sad. I think about the 96 Skylark I used to own. It was a basic car, it did have the V-6 and power windows, but that was it. I wish I owned this beautiful car here. Very nice!
That's because outside of a very minor styling update it is almost identical to the 1999 model year. The G6 replaced the Grand Am in 2006 which personally I thought looked a bit dull until the GXP version came out.
My grandma has a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 and I really do like it. It is a four speed automatic (Which is completely fine considering my grandma is 74), but it handles great for a car that rides as well as it does. I will say though that some of the interior materials are pretty cheap.
It's hard to describe things of this matter to people who aren't really into cars. But for anyone who is, this one of those cars that, when you are in it, it feels like it wants to be driven. Its the kind of car that makes you happy when you drive it.
John Clayton so true, can't be better said.
I agree, I still have my 05 and it’s fun to get out once in a while and drive. I keep it in the garage most of the year tho because of some mods done to the car
City driving it kinda sucks cause you can tell it just wants to go. Get her on the highway she flys and lot of fun
John Clayton
Yeah you’re right. Feels very nice.
@DanteFrm600 yes
This was my first car. It was a grade 12 grad gift :) sometimes I miss this car.. Because of the memories
i’ve got one. it’s dark green low miles and i love it
Dide i missed mine so much i bought another one 😅😂

How's the dashboard in yours?
emil sponga what are your reasons that you think this car isn't good?

This might be my first car. A dealership is selling a all black one for $2900 and it only has 80k miles on it.
803nigel nice! what year and trim? id be all over that if it were a ram air coupe.good find man

I had a lot of memories riding in my aunts 2005 pontiac grand AM SE

Decent car for what it is...a lot of people in my high school drove these cars and liked them. Great vid as always Kyle!
This was one super car. Drove it from Cincinnati to Los Angeles and back in four days.

Astonvman007 ahh well I've got a free oil change that I won at a silent auction, I'll ask the guys there to check the transmission oil too
am i the only one who likes this car?its more than what i got now so im not complainin.

I'm about to buy one here soon👀

Wish he could go back and do some of his older reviews in his new format...like this video...I like this format
Such a beautiful car!
My mom had one and i can't forget how fast it was
Crenshaw Gibbs fucking right bro
Just2Intense Ewww.. Nissan...
Your CVTs gonna give out on ya mate, i recommend finding a new brand before your next(new?) car purchase.
Best video of one of my favorite cars!
i think people keep forgetting that this engine makes over 200 ft lbs of torque. which is actaully quite decent. this thing will pull away from most pf the cars on the road surprisingly
MethodicalMayhem 200 torque is decent but my buddy used to own one and he couldn’t really beat anything in a race
Daddy Dingleberg What is 'anything'?
I love it
I love these cars so much. I wish I could buy it back, but knowing how people usually treat these cars, it's probably trashed by now :(
I really like the in-depth vocal descritions you're doing on your newer vids. Good work.
Thank you, Kyle! I've been waiting for this video.
I drive one of these but a 03 great car lots of power and extremely reliable mine has over 300,000 miles cant say enough good things about this car i have no idea what i would replace it with
Just picked up an '02 yesterday as my first car, and I love it.
THIS CAR has been my biggest dream since I was 4 and I'm finally about to get one!!!!!😁
i love this car it is very comfortable on road even offroad
I love my Pontiac grand am gt
My friend had one, aside from wheel bearing and battery issues, it was a pretty decent ride.
Bought a 2003 Grand Am GT. Didn't love it at first, but it's growing on me. I really was hoping for a Saab 9-3, but it's cheaper cousin will do for now. Glad to read such good things about it in the comments!
Lol. The Pontiac turned out to be a mess... I have a Saab 9-3 Arc now.
Lol yep. The pontiac overheated on the way home, and the interior was just so cheaply made... I love my Saab though. :)
What about you? :) What do you have?
+Matthew Hurley saabs are garbage...should have bought a grand am that was taken care of
I love my Saab. Nothing you say can change that. Lol. I'd never ask for a better first car.
Why dose everyone seem to hate these cars
Your voice is so perfect for this haha, you ever thought about gettin' into the news?
Turn the fan speed all the way up. Close all vents except one. Then spin that one vent as fast as you can.
I saw a video of someone doing that
I always thought these were cool when the first came out.
Gonna Be My First Car. A 2002 White GT
I I kinda like the look of this car and the Oldsmobile Alero, especially both coupe models.
For what you get, the grand am is an amazing first car
I actually bought it at 245k. the lady who had it before me drove 130 miles to and from work everyday. highway miles just cause much less wear and tear. other than that, just basic oil changes and the occasional tune-up. i just had to replace my power steering pump yesterday but except for that i just don't really beat the piss out of it... haha they run forever if you show them a little love
I agree i own an 02 GT1 with 138.000 even and the only defect i have found so far is the window regulator clips they could've made them a little better. Aside from that great running cars.
I just bought one of these as a first car has 90k on it so lucky to have it
do you remember how much you purchased it for?
@@donniefleuryy.29 $3,200
@@Mp3.v4mp one of these with 90k for 3200 ain’t bad! you enjoying it so far? any major issues?
I like this car, it will be my first car... thank you kyle for this video, its great
My dad had a 2001 grand am gt coupe, fully optioned out.
I know how that feels
this is the best looking out of all the cars on this platform. (alero and malibu)
i actually like how he mostly reviews just regular everyday cars. cause all those super cars are overrated and everyone already knows about em. so reviewing plain everyday cars can help you appreciate the car more or see what is really a good car and what isnt
I have had my 02 grand am se since sept. 2012 and i love it! its my first car it is an awesome car to drive and since i have had it i have no problems.
Love the Grand Am!!!
2000’s right here!
This car, and the Dodge Caliber have got to be the most commonly seen vehicles in America haha
the most in depth video i have ever seen
I just got my Pontiac Grand Am last night, and she is a beauty but runs like a beast......I love her and my car is great on gas.
It did a good job in Lethal Weapon 4! 😁
They thrashed that thing
I love the Grand-Am!!!
I wish the fuel economy was better on these. I feel like I fill up way too often with the amount that I drive. They sound pretty good, I had a magnaflow muffler put on mine along with stainless tips. Looks great and the shop did a good job of making it look stock.
When im older this will be my first car.
Logan B is it now
It looks like they didnt change anything from my wifes 2000 gt.
Marlon Munoz Pontiac is much more reliable
my 99 grand am has 278k miles on it and still running strong. it's because i take care of it
I have a 2005 Grand Am myself and IMO I think you should look for something better.
Hey Kyle why don't you ever turn off the radio before you shut the car off? It's a good idea to turn the radio off then shut the car off.
These cars are selling at about 12 to 14 pecent thier original sticker price......fully equipped around deep twenties.....now sell for 2500.00
Illinois Adventures You're 18 now congrats.
You ever get it?
Illinois Adventures Yep I got a Grand Am SE list of things it has.
Traction control
ABS
Leather Seats
Moon Roof
Disc Brakes X4
Ram Air
Monsoon Radio
Exhaust Pipes X4
Dual Post Mirrors
And it’s not a GT plus it’s the 3.4 V6 as well.
Thanks Kyle, my Mom had 2 of these - and my neighbor is trying to sell one. Now I can look like I know about it when I talk to him.
This vid makes me kinda sad. I think about the 96 Skylark I used to own. It was a basic car, it did have the V-6 and power windows, but that was it. I wish I owned this beautiful car here. Very nice!
MY FAVORITE CAR THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO THE GRAND AM DELIVERS!
the 1998-2005 Pontiac Grand Am was assembled in
Lansing, Michigan, United States
Looks and sounds good. What's the fuel economy? I need a good car through high school and college1
That's because outside of a very minor styling update it is almost identical to the 1999 model year. The G6 replaced the Grand Am in 2006 which personally I thought looked a bit dull until the GXP version came out.
How many miles does this car have on it ? Sounds great ! and no piston slap on startup either !
My grandma has a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am SE1 and I really do like it. It is a four speed automatic (Which is completely fine considering my grandma is 74), but it handles great for a car that rides as well as it does. I will say though that some of the interior materials are pretty cheap.
My mom had the coupe in 2002 before they stopped making them. They are just fine
That's the grand prix your talking about
The grand am gt's are very good looking cars, debating if I want to get one
tht car is beautiful
My boyfriend's parents have Grand Ams. His mother has a sedan, his father has a coupe.
