    In 75' I was 18. Buying records was a gas. In the late 80's cd's started taking over. Man I was bummed but finally adjusted. It warms my heart to see young people buying records. Too cool. Glad I hung on to all of mine. Let me share my collectables. Stones Sticky Fingers with working zipper. Skynyrds Street Survivors with original cover. Stones Miss You 12 inch single on pink vinyl. Stones Some Girls with original cover.Concert for Bangladesh. Bowie's Blue Jean single on blue vinyl. Yes album Going for the One on picture disk. I also still have Black Sabbath's first 4 albums. Vol.4 is my fav. Enough already. Yall keep buying that wax! Peace from Tennessee...

    Vinyl collector here. Been collecting since 1991 (though had a smaller collection a decade earlier that I had to get rid of)..
    One of the things about vinyl is you become the history of it. I have a very small amount of records I actually bought new. Most of it is from the 1960's through the 1980's. I wonder who owned this record before me, who were the people that handled it and enjoyed it. How did it find it's way to where I found it. And now that I have it, where will it go from here. I will not live forever but my collection will definitely outlast me. A record is a history of how it was pressed, how it was handled and each needle drop. No two records are identical. My records sound like my records, not my neighbor's records. I have a connection to them. If you delete an MP3 you can get another and it will sound identical. If I break a record or lose a record, I can replace it but it will sound different, possibly slightly, possibly a lot.

    As the elder woman said it's that mellow sound of vinyl.
    You'll never get that feeling when playing CDs or mp3

    When you buy new vinyl you get a download code for the mp3 version. So you get both things in one place and you own a real copy of the music you can collect! ;-)

    "Rotating at 78rpm, the first vinyl record played 'Yankee Doodle' in 1878"... nope! Not true, what-so-ever! They didn't even have flat disc records in 1878! Flat disc records came about in 1896 or so. These early disc records were made of hard rubber. Shellac wasn't even thought of, nor was vinyl even thought of to press records with! Vinyl was used to press records, starting in the 1930s, but only for 16" radio transcription discs (those run at 33rpm). Commercial records didn't start pressing records with vinyl until 1948 or so.

    If you hear a well recorded vinyl album on a good system, it will change your mind about vinyl versus CD. I have both and I can tell the difference and it's not subtle.

    1:10 No NO NO! 78's were made of "Shellac Resin" they were some pressed In Vinyl, but that was after the War, and they were the 12" versions not the Normal 10".

    been watching too many vids today, this past week, but this one i watched with Brian eno's discrete music low on a fader behind this , and it was really fun to mash up this way. I like these stories, they are always the same and they are always just okay being redundant. fun viewing .

      CoinQ I'm definitely a fan of Brian Eno's work! Great background music for whatever you're doing in life. I'm glad that you would find an artist such as Eno to go well with my own work!

    Hokum right from the start. In 1878, Yankee Doodle was NOT recorded on vinyl. Vinyl RECORDS didn't even hit the shelves until after WW2. But then, the narrator probably hasn't even heard of WW2 or Shellac, or Wax, or Tin Foil, or Celluloid, or Acetate either. Go figure.

      +martinarg101 Radio stations at that time where the only ones using vynul records from the 30's all the way up to 1960 i have a 78 rpm radio station promo copy of God Bless The Child sung by Billie Holiday on Columbia records from 1941

      +martinarg101 There was a time that Crosley did make good products now all they make is cheap crapp that will ruin your records..

    • @m42037
      @m42037 8 років тому

      Crosley made cute little car's back in the 50s, and TVs, but these junky modern 99 dollar things is for idiots that still think records haven't been made since the late 80s that have some old scrached up junky records they had found in the celler, basement whatever and they want to take n listen too. A good turntable will cost 2-300. They CAN cost 1000s i know, but a average decent one should cost about 250

      Partly right but you are forgetting 45 singles it wasn't until 1948 we got the first 12 inch vinyl record but 45 7 inch singles had existed for nearly 20 years

    No no no! Kids. If it was only "Retro" "Nostalgia" whatever they'd be making 8 Tracks hello? The almost went extinct becuse the Compact Disc was new and compact. They were invented in 1979 for storing computer data, by 82 music was put on the things and first introduced to the public. Then by 1984-85 CDs and players were being sold in small numbers in stores, i remember. By the early 90s only independent music stores sold vinyl in limited numbers. Remember those stupid Time Life commercials that compared a trashed record to a new CD telling you to throw out those old records you have and buy CDs? Most fell into this stuff, even the record company's were refusing any defective records. They cashed in big time.

      If you think CD sales are booming you really need to seek help. I'm out in public, i shop. Hell just the other day was at Meijer and 10 year's ago had rows of CDs for sale, now there's just a small little section and the prices are cheap. Record sales are up 50% in 2015, while CD sales are continuing to diminish. Ummm that says like everything that goes out like the VHS, 8 Track, etc their on the way out. I'd say in 5 years they will be gone. Only digital downloads and vinyl will be music. How does it feel? Your CD almost put vinyl extinct, now DD and vinyl are putting your boring CD to its grave! Lol. Not only does Vinyl sound better imo but they're cool in many ways other than sound that you can't get from a Compact Lazer Disc. You wouldn't understand so kickback and watch the cd slowly dissapear and watch vinyl continue to grow! 😄

    • @TheLastSamurai813
      @TheLastSamurai813 8 років тому

      +Louise Sturm I think you clearly misunderstood what I wrote. I'll give another example of what people said. iPod comes about "cd is dead it's the new age of digital music". I never said cd sales are booming I was simply saying when CDs hit the market people said cassettes and vinyls were done now 20 plus years later vinyl is making a comeback. In other words All I was saying was people are quick to write off quality these days. CDs were great for a very long time especially considering vinyl isn't a cheap hobby

    • @m42037
      @m42037 8 років тому

      +TheLastSamuraiii Now. now they're expensive, but when they're mass produced the prices will fall. No i don't think vinyl will be big like during the war era into the 70s but they will get much bigger and hell speek of that, you do know the small pressing plants were reporting that they are too small and can't keep up with demand? Well a large pressing plant in NJ that has been shutdown for 20 years just started backup, saw it on the news, they will be pressing minimum a million records a year. Soon another will open, prices will fall. Sorry i misunderstood ya but the trolls come on that hate vinyl and don't know what they're talking about, or just in denial. Time Life commercials (remember them) comparing a old very bad scratched up record on a piece of shit turntable to a new CD was also to blaim for vinyl going almost extinct, along with record company's refusing returns on defective vinyl to make it hard on stores, etc. Most people fell for it becuse most of us didn't take real good care of our records you may agree with that. Then this CD comes out with no popping sound( like our trashed records lol) it's compact and you can play it anywhere. Well boom, that's it. Part was a big lie, a new record or a well kept record doesn't sound like Rice Crispys cereal! Trashed dirty scrached up records do. Well after 25 years kids were trying out new Vinyl's they purchased from independent music store's and said woow! In 2007 records started selling good, now the stores are starting to fill up with vinyl, only about 3 stores left that still won't sell, ( i think it's baby boomer COs that think this is STILL a fad and don't want to take up space and chance loosing money, but soon they'll get many consumers complaining and have to follow becuse hey, money MONEY MONEY right?) Meijer, Wallmart, Target, oh and the soon to be history Kmart.

      +Louise Sturm ha I'm in my early 30s little too old to be trolling. Yes I heard the demand vs little plants has been an issue. Makes u think about opening up your own plant :)
