I think we need to be honest and remember that this isn't some mythical Bungie that is somehow a better version of all of their past ideas. This is a company that's narrative design has been a lot of saying their cool and interesting things.... but never pulling the trigger on letting the player experience that. A developer that see customization as a means to squeeze more money. A developer that just can't balance their game in the slitest, waiting to just see what players complain about the most. A developer that see loot as a means of keeping players on the Hamster wheel and buying season. A developer that will just let parts of their game rot away for years.
Thanks for the comment, and I think you're right to be realistic. I've heard some bummer stuff about destiny and most major game companies seem to have profits in mind over players. I'm hoping for the best with Marathon though, maybe we'll see some gameplay in the next few months that looks promising.
Home “base” - A home base that feels alive with vendors and upgrades that affect the appearance of the base. New “seasons” or world events change the base appearance, etc. Functional firing range MTX - cosmetic only. They are going to be in the game but don't make them P2W or affect gameplay Highly customizable color scheme/style - Shaders aren’t good enough - ramp up the customization to 11 and let us use the glorious art style shown so far in trailers to our own liking Weather effects - Rain/Fog, Night/Day, sand storm, etc. PvE that is a reasonable threat - Rare spawns that are harder to defeat but drop rare loot/keys Proximity chat Small and quick updates - I don't want a patch every 2 months, I want small, frequent patches that address balance issues and fixes quickly. Bungie is not an indie studio - use the superior manpower

I just hope the game actually comes out and is not a flop. Could never get into Tarkov but enjoyed CoD DMZ and have been playing the hell out of Dark and Darker for the last few months. I also played the heck out of Destiny. So I would gladly welcome a new extraction shooter especially one made by Bungie.

Great video! I really hope (and expect) Bungie to show their excellent storytelling and worldbuilding in Marathon. I hope Bungie takes design elements from Tarkov rather than COD. Tarkov is extremely satisfying ounce you start to succeed, but its really the punishment you take beforehand that facilitates that satisfaction. The biggest hurdle with Tarkov is the learning curve and new player experience (not cheating), which I feel Bungie can ace. Tarkov also has an incredibly deep story and lore, mostly told through text and the game world. Tarkov is also an RPG, not many people realize how impactful player stats are on your performance. I feel like Bungie knows and will implement RPG elements as well.
Thanks for the info! I didn't realize that Tarkov's narrative went so deep, but I just looked up some videos on UA-cam and there are tons of lore videos. I'm gonna check this out! I totally think you're right about Bungie being able to find the sweet spot between introducing enough to make the gameplay have depth while also being approachable. Thanks for the comment!
I am extremely excited and hopeful for the potential this game offers, but worried and preparing myself for being let down like I have by games from Bungie or other studios where everything looks amazing, but the end product does not mean the hype.
I like the idea of a hardcore pvp bungie shooter but like i said the moment i saw the trailer, best thing that can happen is that this game is either really good or really bad, if it is good it will be great, if it is bad bungie is as good as gone, worse thing that can happen is marathon being mediocre and it will end up like destiny
Crazy that the day the trailer dropped for marathon, Chris was already replaced. That’s the biggest bait and switch ever??? Also switching to a hero shooter instead of having your own character….yeah Marathon is gonna fail 🤣 Who in the Marathon universe is anyone gonna care about???? Not to mention they canceled Matter twice. Seems like Destiny is the sole focus for Bungie. Honestly just cancel the other projects and work on D3 like everyone wants to happen
I can dig the new aesthetic/design but I’d spend my hard earned money on it if it was a solo/PVE co-op extraction shooter with a good story and your own customizable character. I wouldn’t be bothered if it was just another PVP, always online ip.
I think it’s very bright and different, it’s influenced by cyberpunk and other sci fi games I can’t remember the name of, but it got a unique style, I just hope the gameplay and story can back it up
I mean that even if you solo queue, there will still be other players in your match who can shoot you. As opposed to being able to play the game with exclusively NPC's. They could have a mode like Hunt:Showdown though where you go into the map alone with NPC's to do challenges and build map knowledge. So far it seems that they are saying pvpve modes only.

Destiny lasted 10 years and isn’t completely dead yet. Pretty successful run if you ask me.
