People played WoW because they wanted to experience the mystery and wonder of the world which for 10 years had only existed in the RTS games. Make a long story short, the game also became too much about the gear value, not enough about the player's skill. Raven Hill Cemetery was one of the best designed areas in the history of WoW. There was so much going on in this zone. It felt dangerous, and I had this urge to complete my quests her so I could hurry back to Darkshire and to the comfort of the inn and the nights watch.
That fucking cemetery was one of the best things ever to come out of the game. So many crypts to explore, dangerous elite mobs, tons of ghouls with nasty abilities that would drain your mana constantly over 10 minutes (a nightmare for a leveling priest). A spooky manison with an invulnerable necromancer. A hermit that was secretly sending you to errands to create a fucking abomination. Raven Hill Cemetery, whoever designed this particular area should get a price!

I completely agree. Danger of dying, risk of failure, and distant travels was what made the game great. The problem is that there is currently a different generation of players who will tell you that you're just wearing 'nostalgia glasses', that Raven Hill Cemetary is too far of a hike from Darkshire, that the quest rewards suck and the whole zone should just be skipped.
As do Tirisfal Glades and Silverpine, which share this wonderful music. While Duskwood gives the feel of a good place gone corrupt, the Forsaken zones have that `trudging through the ashes` vibe. And as for the Plaguelands, they're beyond hope, especially the eastern part. The sky, the ground, the plants, the fauna, and of course the nearly inaudible low-frequency awe-inspiring music, ... man.
Ohhh, this zone and this music... it gives me chills every time and horrible flashbacks to when we'd all get ganked by Stitches. I remember first entering this zone by accident and getting jumpscared by a spider that one shot me immediately after. I never left darkshire after that...

When I got my first epic at level 60 I jumped around in Orgrimmar taking screenshots and spamming trade chat with smiley faces. Hell, just having a level 60 felt epic back then.
Finally, and perhaps the most important element to the community's downfall, has been the implement of cross-realm instancing through instant queue via the above mentioned. Encountering other players in the world has become a nuisance rather than a blessing. Players no longer create new friendships; people can be replaced instantly by the click of a button. The community, the heart and soul of the game, has been gutted by a mixture of all of the above.
I always remember getting shit scared of running into the "Gift of the Embalmer" abomination... it killed me at one point as I attacked it with my friends, though we never defeated it. Ah, good old times. I miss Duskwood.

For me, Classic and Crusade made the greatest memories in WoW. I took more screenshots back then than I do now. The recent game perks (achievements, LFR, talent overhaul) are great in their own right, but I personally prefer the way the game was before, crust and all. Each are great in their own right, but Classic and BC were far superior to me in a way that is no longer attainable. This is one man's opinion.
@talind1 hardly any other game can afford an orchestra. Runescape uses a computer program to make theirs /facepalm World of Warcraft uses several bands, orchestras, and arrangements that beautifully come together

man i love the way this game's music is made. elwyn forest is relaxing and easy... westfall feels like your abandoned in a world that hates you... duskwood feels like ur in the middle of a spooky haunted cemetery with ghouls and mor ladim around you (which usually is what is happening..) btw this music reminds me of my very first character. i knew nothing about the game and at lvl two i went exloring duskwood....not a good idea -_-
i remember back in the days first I did with my NE character was to jump off the cliff of teldrassil, AND THEN DO THE SAME WITH MY GHOST! LOL! Yea, that was a long swim afterwards.
something that i will regret for the rest of my life... i slaughtered so many innocent noobs then ate their corpses whilst they were trying to figure out how to move around... they probably never returned to wow... RIP to those characters who never stood a chance UNDEAD FTW

Further, here is the cold truth; Dungeon Finder, LFR, and default-on quest helper which blindingly illuminates world objects for you to click on, including map waypoints and exactly where to travel, have ruined and completely spoiled the community. Players no longer forge their own unique journey in the game, they no longer discover things for themselves, instead they are spoonfed content. The issue has metastasized over the years and grown to pervade the designer team.
