    Was a test pilot at Mooney and no...they don't stall or spin like that. Probably modeled to just fly. I give them an A really. The floor carpet looked more dated than I remember but the floor plates look realistic like the yoke for a used Ovation. An awesome airplane. Speed, climb, endurance and ease of use. Remember delivering one with long range tanks non-stop between the factory at Kerrville and Virginia...just outside DC. It was a newer one with the G1000 but same airplane. This model would be considered well equipped.

      Great comment and info, thanks Stephen. Always like hearing from real pilots of the specific planes as no amount of flight time in other aircraft allow you to know for sure how other aircraft handle. Thanks for your comment.

    Old X-Plane guy here. Never a gamer, so I THANK YOU for not flipping from exterior view to inside view, back and forth - flip/flop like so many of the MSFS 2020 videos do. Maybe that's how GTA is played, but like I said, I sure do appreciate you taking us for a ride IN THE COCOPIT. Beautiful plane. Not sure why what must be at least a 19 year old model has to look (or possibly could look) brand new, maybe it's a MS requirement, as Carenado makes a lot of weathered - realistic planes. AnyHoo... Great video, I'll subscribe and see what else you do.

    Incredible details, superb scenery and awesome old style cockpit! I love this engine gauges array instead of getting another cockpit with these always same two LCD-screens showing (almost) the same plane and navigation data Garmin1000-look. The G1000 design only really fits into these ultra high-end carbon and compound material spaceship-like planes, but not in classic planes like Beechcraft Baron or Cessna 172 or others classics. Well this Ovation here is the usual absolut top-notch superb Carenado quality since FSX, only the A2A Simulation planes go even one step further in detail and let us see the engine, change oil, exchange two-blade and 3-blade propeller and other hangar goodies, combined with hundreds of pages with highly interesting PDF files related to the history of the airplane and interesting flight adventure stories.

      David Traves And durable. A few years back she flew from US (Michigan I think) to Europe and back with it. Small mods before that. In case of crash a flotation device for the plane itself and other safety gear as well as the parachute. None of that needed. Talk about a plane. If I could have any I'd want it'd be the Piaggio .160 Evo. She was looking at that for her second.. Eventually went with... Never remember the name. STOL that the skydivers use a lot. Decided that since she does a lot of bush piloting she'd prefer that.

    Great review! I purchased earlier this morning and being a bit familiar with Mooney both Carenado and Milvitz in X-Plane (latter ac=best) I figured no problem especially since I love flying the Mooney.
    I wasn’t disappointed! Excellent ground handling and flight characteristics. I had one problem tho. The Garmin was inoperable. I’m going to try again from cold and dark, maybe starting with engine running as I did caused this.
    The trim wasn’t too bad. I think MSFS people (ASOBO) need to overhaul this for the whole sim.

Stayed with the likes of A2A, Milviz, and PMDG. Carenado now has the opportunity to “step up” and produce more “study level” aircraft. I really love this plane, it's all I fly in VR since the purchase. Very easy to hop in cold start and fly around to anywhere. Big steam instruments are easy to read in VR, unlike the smaller fonts on the G1000.
    I also love the 90s retro feel with the red digital numbers and those little engine gauges. It gives that nostalgic sports car feel like a 205 GTI or clio williams, which I adore. Sure the modern glass cockpits look fancy and all, but I'll always prefer that era.
    It has everything required for old school navigation. Simply switch the GPS to MSG page and use only VOR navigation.
    The only downside in VR is disorienting mouse cursor. It does not adapt to the cockpit as you move around.

    Just a little tip: you can setup the cockpit zoom in such a way that it only zooms in and out when you, for example, hold down the right mouse button while using the mouse wheel. That way you can use the cockpit instruments with the mouse wheel without accidentally zoom in and out all the time, because the mouse pointer slips off the dial.

The CHT was over 400°, except decent. I know it’s a sim but it’s distracting seeing the temp that high. There’s a nice JPI but don’t think it’s fully functional to lean, so use EGT in the green. Fuel flow should be mid-teens in cruise best I remember. On final I was a little fast, as is the case with Mooneys, but even cutting power it wouldn’t slow down without speed breaks. Not quite THAT slick. Definitely a B+ A- .

    Thank you nice introduction to the aircraft, have you used the Nav system shown on the VC and put in a flt plan etc that would be interesting? Thanks again Charlie (UK)

    Great video. Subscribed and liked. Question to you or others regarding MSFS 2020 are all the navigation way points included and updated every 28 days and in general how realistic are the instrument approaches. Have an 84 M20K and using X-Plane for currency (not official). Would like to switch to 2020 when the above are up to speed. Thanks again.

    Thanks for the terrific review -- I bought the mod when it went on sale for the holidays and since have had a bit of chance to mess around with it. In that context, I have been trying to learn how to program the Garmin 530. In contrast to the other autopilot systems on the mod, I find it a bit daunting. For example, try as I might, I could not figure out how to program approaches/arrivals during flight. I noticed that a few months ago, you were anticipating some instructional videos on the Money instrumentation systems. Have you done so -- and where might I find them?

    I bought this from MSFS Marketplace and I must admit, I fell in love with this aircraft right from the start. However, after a MSFS update followed by a Carenado update for the aircraft, I noticed that the "yoke invisibility" function no longer worked and nor did the Transponder panel . . . . the "on knob" just wouldn't rotate . . . . and even on a small flight, I had the dreaded CTD over and over again. Has anyone else had this problem? I have received a reply from Carenado acknowledging that there is a problem but I've not heard of anyone else having it.

    I fly the green old school livery because it has the old school steam gauges. For 30 large you would think a glass cockpit would be included as a option since those are much easier to manipulate than turning knobs at precise pick points with a mouse.
    The overhead light switch cluster does not illuminate. Difficult to operate your exterior lights at night.
    Also as of date this plane is bugged the radios keep powering off ( a know flight sim bug but really bad in this AC) or don’t power up at all. And the custom altitude instrument is a twitchy knob pos

    The views issue (right button points to left wing, etc) were an issue on the Cessna 182 from Carenado as well. Fortunately, they fixed it with their first update so, hopefully, they will fix this one too. I think they need to get someone working in the Quality Control Department.

    Yeah, can confirm that the stall is borked. Flew an M20J and M20C for my IFR training and the stalls were rather snappy, nothing like shown here. Other than that though, it's still a lovely model and I'm enjoying it immensely.

    Overall not a bad review. Like the textures on the aircraft being reviewed, most of the review was pretty much on point but occasionally strayed into absolute irrelevancies like thr cockroach view of a carpet texture. Like Carenado however there is much to like and I encourage you to continue.

    Got it two hours ago and generally very good impressions. With some tweaks on the following, I think it might be great.
    1. More inertia needed. Feels too light for a bruiser of a GA aircraft. You need to feel the mass of the aircraft which after all, is no Cessna Aerobat.
    2. Trim sensitivity. Needs the wick turning down here. Something much more granular would be great. Works well with force feedback, but would be far better still, if this was moderated.
    3. Overly sensitive autopilot which has trouble tracking VORs and capturing the localiser. Feels like the aircraft is drunk. This is a real pity, because the panel is a treat to fly. This DOES need attention soon, because that panel is superb.
    Overall, a happy purchase, but Carenado, please look at the above issues and you will have an FS2020 benchmark for excellence. Two hours of use isn't a lot to form a definitive opinion, but I do feel confident that this aircraft is going to get a lot of use and give a fair bit of satisfaction as well. One final and major plus with regard to FS2020 is that with those lovely dials, you can get a single view of everything that you need without zooming, shifting and losing whatever situational awareness you might have. If anything of note comes up, I shall be surprised. Bargain.

    • @anotherv79
      @anotherv79 3 роки тому

      Yes, that trim is a bit overboard, but oddly, just about usable with force feedback on the stick. I have never trusted trim via buttons and have the Saitek trim wheel and also the logitech panels, which means that I may have sidestepped a few of the issues reported elsewhere. Looking forward to a night flight, for sure.

    M20 appears to have an issue with the autopilot.
    When set to follow GPS in a long, straight line it will frequently start doing serpentine like it flies itself off course, then serpentine back to correct it.
    When looking at flight logs / history of the flight session you see multiple S-maneuvers all along the straight flight paths.

      Yes, it snakes along the circuit. To make matters worse I cannot seem to get the altitude pre-select to work correctly. I reviewed the Bendix King manual for the KFC 150 with the KAS 297B pre-select and alt alert system to assure I know how they function properly. I am not out of my mind. Don't put in a KAS 297B if you're not going to allow the pilot to use it. Ugh. Rush to get it out. Shame on you Carenado.

    Two things that I noticed - first is the lack of prop torque affecting handling, which should be quite pronounced in a M20R. I can full throttle on takeoff with no rudder input, which feels quite odd. Secondly is the performance impact. I am seeing a 5-10fps difference between the non-G1000 C172 and the larger Citation Longitude (55 and 50 respectively), then a further 10 fps hit for the Mooney (40fps). It appears a more pronounced drop in the external model, but the internal model is still quite heavy, which is surprising given the lack of screens. I hope these two issues are looked at.

  • @kovo313
    @kovo313 3 роки тому +8

    You mentioned rudder sensitivity. My experience is the controls are sensitive after MSFS fresh start. I am using joystick and always go to controls settings after fresh start to "primary controls surfaces" section and wiggle the joystick in all access including the rudder mapped to twisting of the joystick. Be looking at visual indicators in there I can see initially controls are very sensitive but once moved to maximum position the joystick gets calibrated. Unfortunately it seems I have to always perform this after restart. Not a big deal. If I forget jerky reaction of an airplane force me to hit escape and perform the obligatory calibration. Luckily I do not have to leave already loaded flight, just to visit setting. :-)

    • @kovo313
      @kovo313 3 роки тому

      @Necramonium I noticed that too but I did not gave up and fund the same (calibration not actual sensitivity settings) can be achieved in "primary controls surfaces" section - see my original post above. .

    One thing I find myself wondering is if the instruments are properly backlit for night flights. The stock planes with steam gauges don't seem to have instrument lighting other than the interior light of the 152. (or am I just not smart enough to figure out how to turn them on?)
    Was also a little disappointed you didn't show any exterior views of the plane in flight. Mooney's are very nice looking planes and a lot of people fly from the exterior views just to look at the planes and landscape.

    I'm using a CH Eclipse Yoke and have calibrated it - but I can't get 29" at full power - only get about 22" for some reason. I'm in the market for a better yoke - but seems weird that this one doesn't seem to play well with the Mooney.

    In case anyone is wondering, yes you can open the door in cruise flight and it will promptly destroy the aircraft and reset your flight. I was dumb enough to try this about an hour into a 2.5 hour flight....

    I noticed one thing about the plane is it runs out of fuel with 3 gallons still indicated in each tank. Not sure if that's correct to the real plane. The low fuel light comes on either as the engine stops or just before (can't remember which) and I know that isn't accurate. The range computer still tells you you have plenty of time to fly. The other thing is there doesn't seem to be a warning light if you leave the alternator switch off, though the battery does begin to run down. But switching the switch to the other battery doesn't change the level indication.

    Nice video, thank you! I have that add on and was wondering if the motor flaps were on that model (I discovered the Mooney M20 has, but maybe not this one?) and if yes, could you tell me where the command is, that would be very nice of you. Sadly just being a new simmer I often wonder if I'm right when I find mfs2020 a bit too "easy", I mean, I feel like irl the planes sometimes wouldn't be as tolerant as they are in game and you just confort me in that idea, in extremes conditions of course. Bye

      EGT: Engine Exhaust Temperature for each cylinder. It’s used to help find the best mixture setting. You lean the mixture until the highest temp on the hottest cylinder, then richen the mixture 50 deg or so. There will be different temps to target in the pilots operating handbook (POH) for max range, best power, etc.
