I just changed out my stock transmission pan on my 2007 Lincoln Mark LT with a mag-hytec one yesterday. I would highly recommend having a set of long reach hex allen keys to install the new pan. Also, having a suction machine like a mityvac or H.F. brand Holt Industries like I have makes it easier when you drop the pan. Stick the tube down the transmission level checker/filler tube and suck out the fluid. I was able to suck out almost 4 of the 5 quarts out and make very minimal mess. Also, my transmission pan and rear diff cover I got from mag-hytec had a rubber o ring built into the mating surface.
The fluid exchanger is the best thing for transmission gasket replace, stick the tube down the transmission dip stick and suck up as much fluid as you can so when you replace it no leaks
Yeah, although I live near the ocean in New Jersey...still has plenty of rust underneath. I bought my last Jeep , a ‘94, with 150K and drove it 11 years and almost 300K miles. Hoping I’ve still got some years with this one.
Thanks for such detailed video. I have a 10 ram 1500 and the exhaust pipe goes under the oil pan like one .5" I might have to modify the exaust pipe away from the pan. I just changed the gears and install a Mag Hytec diff cover and I love it. Thanks once again
I have a video titled "how to protect a radiator from bugs and rock damage". My Jeep is a 2007 but has a big intake section for the radiators cooling also at the bottom of the front of the truck.
Great video, I like how u point out the filter gaskets and how to remove and the install of these as well. Is this the same procedure for a 2016 ram 2500 with the rfe?
If you put the seal in with the filter, it doesn't like to go into any gear, found that out the hard way 😂 I later found out that is the sump filter and it needs to be a good seal or nothing flows
Hey Martin, I was wondering can you consider adding this video to /repair/ playlist? Maybe good idea to consider rocker arms-lifters as well since 4.7 is prone to those issues. As always great video! 🙌
Hi Martin! your videos are awesome, and, of course, ...you are awesome! Just a question: Why don't you change the entire oil, but only the one in the pan? What do you think about changing the entire oil? In your opinion, is it a good or bad thing? Thanks in advance!
I've been rock crawling with my XJ for 10 years and never has the transmission and a rock ever come in contact with each other. I'd recommend you build some kind of skid plate to protect your pan.
No I never have. I just got done Googling it and it does seem to be a problem problem with the WJ. I haven't looked into it too much almost looks like it could be inside the transmission.
Hey Martin: I asked the mechanic about transmission oil change. He said that if that jeep never had a transmission oil change before, it has a high chance of ruin the transmission. But, if it has been serviced by the book , not a problem to do it. Does he is right?? Got a '01 WJ Navy blue, sweet!!, with 130 k on it. Your videos are good..... thanks 👍!!!
I think if you changed out just the fluid in the pan and change the spin on-filter I think you will be alright. That will still leave the remaining 8 or 9 quarts inside the torque convertor.
Hi Martin, how do you monitor your transmission temperature? Did you have to add a temp sensor on your own or can u access it through the obd2 port? Thank you
Yes it will work on a 545RFE. But with some models like the Dodge Dakota the transmission crossmember May interfere with the back portion of the 68RFE pan.
Ok so how did you really remove the o ring for the pickup tube? Mine won't come out even when using a little hook pick and hanging my entire body weight off it. HELP!
I really did remove it with a tool. Are you certain that it didn't come out with the filter and perhaps you're hooking something else in the valve body like part of the cast. The O-ring would fail before you actually put any kind of body weight on it. Or maybe you're hooking something above the O-ring and not the O-ring itself.
jose5080007 well that's very low miles. the only thing I have heard of that may be an issue and I have seen one at the junkyard was that the valve seat came loose from the cylinder head. and you may hear of some lifter problems also so if you're hearing any ticking when it first starts up could be an indicator but I won't spectate you would have that problem at a 103k. I wouldn't worry at all as long as the vehicle was well maintained. I really like my 4.7.
Awesome pan, well, it looks like the 4.7L is covered, But, I'm wondering if Mag-Hytec makes one for my wifes 4.0L? If not, are there any other after market trans pans for the 4.0? Thanks. keep up the great vids... Oh are you planning on installing the mag-hytec diff covers on the front and rear differentials if so I'd like to see that video as well Thanx again...
I believe the pan is the one for your transmission not exactly positive which transmission you have with your 4.0. www.yourcovers.com/transpan_9862.php

Just got the Mag-Hytec pan myself , can't wait to get it installed , think I'm also going with the Mag rear diff cover as well.
I have both on my f150. You will love them.
Just done engine oil pan gasket, noticed Transmission pan leaking too so this is my next job, im pretty confident thanks to your vid
You can do it, thanks for watching.
Trans oil pan done, magnet was clean, torque them bolts, refit exhaust, add engine oil and trans fluid, get a wof and rego, then for sale
Awesome! I've been enjoying and learning a lot from your videos! I've got an 2002 4.7 WJ Laredo with 113,000 Miles
Wow that's really low miles for a 02

will do...thank you

Thanks man! You live and you learn. I came right to this video and while working on it today found a gas leak. "compression fitting"
what libra tightened the screws

Good idea! 👍
What brand is better for the transmission???🛢🤔
Javier Dos Santos Aveiro I would just go with a good name brand and make sure that it is the correct fluid for that particular transmission.
Hi Martin!
your videos are awesome, and, of course, ...you are awesome!

Looks amazing Martin. My 01 pan looks like Rockys face after 10 rounds with Apollo Creed. Think that alloy can go a few rounds with a boulder?
I've been rock crawling with my XJ for 10 years and never has the transmission and a rock ever come in contact with each other. I'd recommend you build some kind of skid plate to protect your pan.
Ever changed out a reverse light switch when doing transmission?
No I never have. I just got done Googling it and it does seem to be a problem problem with the WJ. I haven't looked into it too much almost looks like it could be inside the transmission.
Do you have a video on how to remove the transmission solenoid block pack ?
I don't, I haven't had to change mine out yet.
Oh okay i wonder if it’s simple but thank you
@@martinbuilt hey Martin is it still good to use the gasket the pan comes with or should I try to get an OEM one ?
Hey Martin:

@@martinbuilt : I did a transmission flush on my Mazda 6 ' 04 at 100k not a problem. Thanks for replying it 👍
I didn't watch the whole video. What's the advantage of having a deep transmission pan?
The added capacity of fluid and that will give you a lower operating temperature.
Does the deeper pan mess with the dipstick reading?
Matt Allen
No, the transmission pan has no effect on dipstick reading.
no issue
Didn't use cilicone ? It is Ok with that kind of gasket ?
yes, that will work, I don't like sealant with trans pan gasket.
Did you ever put the insulation between pan and cat? What kind of so?
i ended up installing Doug Thorley Tri-Y headers. Just put some Thermo Wrap on the pan.
@@martinbuilt just found that video watching it now. 🤓
Hey Martin, is it the same amount of quarts with the stock transmission pan? Thanks
No you can probably figure 2 and a 1/2 to 3 qt less fluid.
@@martinbuilt Thanks Martin.
any pick up tube extension?
How U check the atf ? In park or neutral ?
I check it in park
Hi Martin, how do you monitor your transmission temperature? Did you have to add a temp sensor on your own or can u access it through the obd2 port? Thank you
yes through the OBD2 port

You're welcome, I am glad you liked it and found it helpful.
Thank you for watching.
WHat brand of tools are you using? I want the same set.
How many liters of oil you add?
2.8L more
Hi Martin , is it ok if I used Valvoline atf transmision oil ?? I have same jeep .
That transmission requires ATF-4. I wouldn't use anything else.
@@martinbuilt ok thanks .can you tell me how many courts I put 6 but still not enought
@@s.b5412 if you installed the Mag Hytec pan I used 9 quarts.

brother, excelent job.....!!!!!
Will this fit a 45RFE?
This Pan will work on #45RFE, 545RFE, and 68RFE Transmissions. Make sure the exhaust won't get in the way.
how much did it cost you for that pan
$263.00 from Jegs.
I'm looking at buying an 04 Jeep Grand Cherokee tomorrow. Any major issues with the 4.7 V8, it has 103K.
