I got an evo 3 7 bolt for many years 700 plus hp never had any problems beside the Arp headbolts good not handle the pressure of the Garrett Gt4088 bb But now l19 in charge of that
There is an easier way to determine if its a 6 bolt or 7 bolt motor, the front of the block under the crank pulley the oil pan is flat on the 6 bolt motors, where the 7 bolts are curved in that area, and 7 bolts are not that bad the early ones were less prone to crank-walk, and you can find a 7 bolt 4g64 crank pretty easily and make a 2.3 stroker motor out of it.
@@chrisabbott7657 I have it the right way or we are both right, the "95-"97 2g cars had the most reported cases of crank walk, What your referring to as the less likely to Crank Walk is the late 2g 98-99 dsms which had the split thrust washer main bearing setup, so you are sort of correct, that is if we ignore the fact that the first dsm 7 bolts were in 1gb dsms, they are less likely to develop crankwalk compared to the 2ga 95-97 engines, when i wrote early 7 bolt i meant the first gen dsm 7 bolt engines, the first 7 bolts in a dsm in the US, were on 1g cars from aug "92 to "94, and they used a different 7 bolt engine casting to the 2g 95-97 cars, and they have far less cases of crankwalk compared to the most reported cases which were 95-97 2g engines. The engine in the video above is vary likely a 1g dsm 7 bolt engine since it has front and rear roll stop mounting points on the block, that is one big difference between the true early 1gb 7 bolts, and the 2ga 7 bolt engines.
I had a 99 gsx and got crankwalk at 48k miles i bought a donor 96 talon and put the engine from that car and it was fine a little later around 70k the tranamission blew up on the gsx
@@yaneponil1470 I've had a '99 GSX for about 18 years and the only serious problem it ever had was it spun a bearing after I forgot to add oil for like 3 months since it was burning a little.
My 1998 7 bolt stock block has 400k km with absolutely no crankwalk my boy, not to mention the cylinder walls JEEZ guy idek how its possible but less than 4/1000 of wear and thats from driving uphill!! id😂k what year it was because all you said is 90 but you probably lost a lot of money

Good to know thanks for the info
You have that the wrong way.. the early ones are prone to cw. Gen II they added a split thrust bearing making cw unlikely

@Chris Abbott THANK YOU!!! FINALLY I SEE SOMEBODY THAT KNOWS WHAT'S UP WITH THE 2G DSM? I can sleep tonight.
There's nothing wrong with 7 bolts. The oil squirter/crankwalk issue was fixed on the '98 and '99 models.
Good to know. The motor wound up going to a friend for one of his projects

- i wouldn't mind buying the head off the 7 bolt.
Unfortunately the motor is gone already
Hey man I need dat 7 bolt flywheel can't seems to find any
Clutch and pressure plate
As well
Unfortunately thats all gone at this point. Sorry
You must not know about gen 1 and gen 2 7 bolts
All I know is everyone that called me declined because it wasn't a 6 bolt. Thats okay it went to someone who will put it to good use.
I do need it
If only I hadn't already sold it. Sorry

Got lucky and dint lose much money. Really didn't pay much for the car cause it was rusty
You're insane 7 bolt 4G63s are just as good as 6 bolt 4G63s. And anyone who says different is full of shit.
Thats totally true btw the crank .is lighter but the block has extra support casting on it
I have since learned that. It wound up going to a local guy who is building it currently.
