I mean in terms of materials, none of this broke the bank (although it added up more than I realised) but it took basically 4 solid weeks of work. At even a modest estimate of $80 AU a day, that's like $2000.
      I obviously don't think about financially like that (no video of mine has ever made that much so I wouldn't do it if I was being fiscal about it) but yeah, I can't exactly make two of these a month and keep feeding my family haha.

      It did take ages, mainly to plan and to build the set (there is no computer effects at all except the readings on the inside of the glasses, so the room really was completely blacked out) - the filming didn't take long and the editing was, ok, long but not considering how many layers and stuff were there. Mainly the script and working out what shots were needed was hard.
      Anyway - what do you mean my Swedish partners in crime? Like you mean the voice of Svenska at the end? That's Joakim from Say It in Swedish... or do you mean the people who taught me Swedish?

    Off the charts creativity for a podcast, wow. It would be pretty frustrating watching foreign language content if you don't understand enough. How far into a language do you think you need to be to start watching TV or movies in that language? B1, B2?

    • @daysandwords
      @daysandwords  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you.
      It kind of doesn't work to say, because it depends greatly on your tolerance for discomfort. I believe there is an ideal level of tolerance, because if you have COMPLETE tolerance then you won't even care if you never learn it and your brain won't treat anything you hear as important, but if you can hardly tolerate anything, then you'll never move to watching stuff in your TL without subtitles.
      Personally, watching stuff with subtitles was so normal for me as a kid that it was news to me that some people had never done this, therefore I'd already made the first step of regularly watching foreign things. Chances are that if I had always watched one language as a kid then I'd be fairly fluent in that language today, but it was always just whatever; French, German, Spanish etc.
      Basically I'd suggest you try it with subtitles in the TL (e.g. Swedish audio, Swedish subtitles) and look up one in 10 words that you don't know. If you have Netflix then you can use Learn Languages with Netflix and have two subtitles at the same time. If you find that reasonable enough then it doesn't matter if you're at A1 or C1.

    You've mentioned running being a good analogy to language learning. I'd love to see a film like this where you run into fluency, or something of the sort.

    That what fantastic! I could see this added into a feature film as a sub plot, main plot.

      I'm not nitpicking, I'm just genuinely interested in which one you mean.

      @@daysandwords Hi, I genuinely see ,as a just graduated student of a theatre academy, that you have put tonnes of work in this project. The voice acting is great, the camera work, the editing. I know that doing a production on a low budget means that almost all work is done alone. It makes me happy to see that work being reflected in the product, it looks really slick and it is pretty exciting to watch. For me personally knowing how you did it is not very interesting. But I could see how other people with less knowledge of editing, scriptwriting and camerawork would be very interested. Anyway, that was a long way of saying, I ment the last. Thanks for all the inspiration you gave me to learn languages. Большое спасибо, пока
