Probably didn't do well with the audience at Dress rehearsal. That's how they base what goes on the air and what doesn't. Some stuff like the Democratic debate sketch goes on matter what.
Literally seconds matter on SNL and because it's live, a live sketch can go long, which adds up to minutes. A lot of great stuff gets cut for that reason. It usually has nothing to do with a reaction at dress rehearsal.

It must be so surreal and fun to work there.
