      I was literally just running a 3600 with a 3080. Just upgraded to a 7800x3d, but it was running wonderfully. I mainly upgraded because the board had no bluetooth and a usb type C port, and only 1 m.2 ssd slot. Performance wise, I was perfectly fine.

      i mean that's subjective. i have a r5 5500 and rx 580 and I'm only upgrading the 580 to a 5700xt because no driver support and I want to do some xenia emulation. for example, a lot of people I know only play stuff like Minecraft so that setup is more than they would ever need.

    Guys are so obsessed with the bottleneck thing, you'll have a bottlleneck for a while after you upgrade the gpu but once done yyou just upgrade the cpu and then you're set

    • @socrguy123
      @socrguy123 3 місяці тому +13

      Yea, but a CPU bottleneck is worse. The CPU being the bottleneck leads to stuttering, at least in my experience

    • @marie-franceFortin
      @marie-franceFortin 3 місяці тому +9

      Yeah, bottleneck is a big deal only for new build, when you want the best perf for your buck. So not overpaying for a GPU or CPU that you won't be able to use at full peak because of a bad pairing.
      If you are planning a CPU upgrade in 1 or 2 years, a bottleneck GPU is desirable. It will be ready for your next upgrade. Just adjust your settings accordingly in the meantime.

    • @joshuaPurushothaman_
      @joshuaPurushothaman_ 3 місяці тому +4

      @@marie-franceFortinNo yeah! I agree completely: for FIRST builds, no bottlenecks (or maybe even one small bottleneck if it's an insane value proposition 👀), but in this case if they upgraded to a 6700xt or higher, they're gonna swap the motherboard eventually and will have a higher range there! I'll admit it's a more budget conscious option and not perfectly ideal but still.
      By adjusting for bottlenecks, you're basically restricting the system to... whatever the motherboard socket/platform has? Makes some sense, but not enough tbh.

    • @marie-franceFortin
      @marie-franceFortin 3 місяці тому +3

      @@socrguy123 you have to know what's a CPU job and what's a GPU job and ask more of the GPU and less of the CPU so that the CPU keep up. You have to go into the details of your game settings and not just set it to "low" or "high". I've been upgrading from one bottleneck type to the other without issues for years.
      For example if you have a CPU bottleneck you want the resolution as high as possible so that each frame the CPU calculated takes as much time possible for the GPU to render, high texture but low poly, stuff like that. The goal is that, since the GPU is faster, it is not waiting for the CPU to catch up because it has more things to do.

    • @socrguy123
      @socrguy123 3 місяці тому +1

      @@marie-franceFortin yea, but that's either not always possible, or not always clear in the settings. Some gpus are just too much for certain cpus, and not every game has the same CPU/GPU demands. CSGO for example is pretty much always leaning more on CPU than GPU

    I would highly recommend thinking IF you want to make a CPU upgrade soon (aka, this year) as well or not.
    If the answer is yes, I would even consider 7800xt(or nv 4070 non ti), as that's as far as best CPU for your board can take you.
    then go back one step at the time, until you are happy with the price.
    I would not go for 3060 as that's a bit too close gen to gen, so for good value for money, you might need to go +1 over.
    3060 is about twice as fast as 1060, but 7800xt is 3x1060.
    my recommendation is to not rush it, check loads on both cpu and gpu as you use it, MAYBE even you want 2x2TB ssd instead, as they are literally half price compared to 2020

The time to upgrade the CPU on that socket has passed, unless you already had a GPU which your 3600 was holding back. But you don't have that, you actually need the GPU upgrade.

    Might even wait for the next gen graphics cards as the present gen is not really impressing me, yet the 8GB VRAM is kind of hurting in games like moded Fallout 4 or moded mechwarrior 5 let alone new games and that 12GB VRAM on the 4070 makes me think that won't have much life left in it either. Yet the 7900 GRE would make more sense but then ai have a 1st gen Gsync monitor and will lose adaptive sync since it's not compatible with Freesync.

    I would honestly just sell the parts and build a new PC, AMD is good value when buying used parts, however that goes the other way, too. Nvidia GPU's are higher prices on the used market, so if you want to upgrade later or want the DLSS features, go for Nvidia.

    I have the 5600g with a GTX 1650, beast of cpu!!! Of course that in the future the next upgrade is the gpu, the cpu? I think that processor could hold easly 7 to 8 years max (before you mention me about about the half cache loss compared to the non g version, considerate that until the 12th to 13th gen of intel procesors their cache never go up to 16 mb) so there is no concern in that part (of course , 32 mb of cache beats up 16 mb but meehh, i could survive)

      Upgrade your GPU. You should upgrade to something like a 3060, 3060ti, 5700xt,6600xt. These are good GPUs which are quite cheap on the second hand market.

    Another thing to consider is if you can only upgrade one, but you can upgrade hard, getting a bottlenecked GPU means you don’t need to upgrade it again when you can afford a new CPU. Otherwise you risk getting a new cpu and going oh crap now the GPU is bottlenecking it.

    Question: i want to game, but i also want to future proof (as much as one reasonably can, anyway).
    I have a tight budget, a hard $600 max.
    Would it be better to build a budget gaming rig on an am4 platform with solid older pieces from aliexpress and fb marketplace, or should i make a brand new am5 build with a ryzen 5 8600g, 32gigs of ddr5 ram at 6k mhz, and play using integrated graphics til i can afford a higher end gpu with at least 12gb ram?
    For reference: the most graphic heavy game i want to play is Baldur's Gate 3. Outside of that, I'm predominantly a 2D gamer that usually plays survival horror, rpgs, tower defense and metroidvanias.

    People are always so scared of bottlenecks. Just upgrade as far as you can with your money and then later upgrade what's bottlenecking you. It's not going to kill you when you use a R5 3600 paired with a 4070ti. At worst you won't max out your gpu, but often it'll still make a difference. I've seen people rock 3080's on that cpu and they said it was fine. It's not an art form to find the perfect pairing, just get what you want.

    I have buyed a R5 2600 a long time ago(smh like 2020) and this thing still can beat any game in 1080p in combo with 3060.
    I have thinked about upgrading to R5 5600, but, i think i'm still good with this one. Just will save money for a better GPU.
    Btw, this CPU was originally on "H" chipset motherboard with RX 570 as GPU, with only 8 gigs of RAM at 2666 MHZ.
    Currently my whole PC got changed, from case to motherboard, to the best ofc. Kinda crazy to realize that its literally the second PC where it used.
    My full specs if someone interested:
    Motherboard: B450m DS3H v2
    RAM: 16 gigs at 32000 mhz
    GPU: RTX 3060 by MSI, OC Ventus if i remembered it correctly.
    SSD: Samsung 980 PRO for 1 TB.
    PS: Deepcool for 650 watt.
