***** while this video had none of the annoying stick tricks and show offy moments that pretty much all your other covers do, I still don't see why you have to put in the description you are 21 and "Self taught?" No other drummer does that...seems a little like bragging to me.
Steven Spahn Is it wrong he is proud to have taught himself to the point he is now? Not only that but some people may be curious of his age and whether he's had drum lessons. Annoying stick tricks? I always sense jealousy in comments like yours.
You know a song is challenging for Luke when there's not one single stick trick during the song, haha! But besides that, this cover was excellent/spot-on/perfect. Whatever you wanna call it. Hands down, your best cover to date! Looking forward to more, man :)
I've been coming back to this video every few weeks since Luke first released it. This song is, imo, one of the most technically difficult drum parts in modern progressive metal, and Luke recreated about as perfectly as a human being can play this song. Absolutely spotless.
@WithBeautyAndWithLove I love tendinitis, but, the crazies drum piece? Close, but have you heard of the cosmic liberty album by casimir liberski, drums by Matt garstka?
Our very good. Luke, know that you have many fans here in Brazil, you are much appreciated and is one of my mirrors to develop myself on drums. My English is not very nice, so I hope it to understand my comment. May God bless you.
matt is insane! he's my favorite example to give for those stuck up musicians that say "oh he's just a metal guy" you know they're out there. really solid cover luke
***** I have to say, I've been subscribed for a few years, Luke. You have improved musically and technically as a musically. It is fantastic to see your progression as a professional. Good luck on all your future professional endeavours.
I do have one question for you Luke, how the hell are you so damn good when you do remixes and covers but your sound so basic in the Word Alive. I’m not trying to take away from your talent, but it just seems that it is so monotonous and boring. This is not a hate comment, just a legit question. I personally think you shouldn’t be in that band. I originally started listening to them because of you, but I fell in love with the lyrics though. The music has gotten really obnoxious and I really think you should just do stuff with guys like, I don’t know, Jason Richardson or, if time permits, Jared Dines. Keep going hard man!
Just absolutely unbelievable. You make it look effortless. Trying to even comprehend these polyrhythms is near impossible for the bulk of us. You're brilliant.
I like to think that I'm a pretty skilled drummer, but my brain can't even comprehend most of what is going on here. Seriously Luke, once again, you are killing it.
You know you've watched an awesome video when you're fixated on it the whole time and them verbally say "that was dope" at the end in an awe-struck tone.
It amazes me that people can still talk crap with how high of quality this is. Why can't you just look at the video and have your mind blown without trying to one up the guy. Really nice stuff dude!
As someone who doesn't really like the overplayed (technicality-wise) pop covers, I find myself really enjoying the covers that are inherently technical because of the music. Did this one some justice, man.
Not gonna lie about it. This gotta be honestly maybe 30th time I watch this. It's such a good song and so entertaining to watch you nailing every beat of it. It's been nice to watch you grow as a drummer over these years. Thank you Luke very much and I'll keep coming back to watch your videos! I hope the very best for you!
Badass. Shout out to Matt from AAL for writing these parts though, the drumming on The Joy Of Motion is some of the most technical, interesting, and downright difficult parts I've heard in a long while, seriously a masterpiece.
The amount of concentration on your face is unbelievable. I've never seen you so focused on the technicality of a song. Usually you feel it and there's more freedom but you were locked in the whole time!
"The Luke Holland Comment Section" 90% - One person making an insult followed by 90000 people individually insulting that person 10% - comparisons to other drummers, song requests, general compliments
I've never hit the dislike button, even for anything I really don't like.. That being said, I really don't see how anybody could dislike this... Jealous much?
I have to say awesome JOB! The fact that you reached out to Matt for assistance speaks volumes to both of your work ethics and ability to step up and collaborate. I actually enjoy your version as much as AALs. Nice job getting a gig with Herr Lang as well!!
Your professionalism with learning the songs so precisely is fucking amazing. I really respect how much effort you put into your covers even whilst being heavily occupied with TWA, I dig it
Because he does what he wants to do. So many musicians are much better and more talented than the music they choose to create, they play in their bands because that's the music they like to create. Just cause they can play more technical difficult stuff, doesn't mean they necessarily want to.
The lead guitarist of The Word Alive (Zack Hansen) is also in a much higher level than the music of the band. I think they are limited by the genre of the band. If luke holland and the guitarist of The Word Alive would create a side project it would be epic.
I love to see this. So many people talking shit. I've been following Luke since he was 17, and I watched him achieving his own car, house, life. And he's 21, most of you won't get it all before your 40's.
I wonder for those who's talented enough to play these kinda pieces, are they able to compose drumming like what they have covered.... Cause thumbs up for the composer, having the idea to play such music from scratch.
+Cahyo Amiseso That's what suprises me the most about Matt Garstka. Ok being able to cover it ! cool! but imaginating the parts .... WOW. i'm sure even himself didn't know how to play the parts he had in his head at first haha
Fantastic Luke! Never fail to impress. You're an absolute inspiration to myself and many drummers out there, still find it insane that I met you in Scotland a couple of years back! Looking forward to hearing the rest the videos you're going to release!
i like when you do covers like these because it shows how great of a drummer you truly are man. you're not just a drummer with crazy stick tricks, and it's cool to see how much you have progressed over time. can't wait for more videos man!
I've been playing guitar for 18 years and just recently started learning how to use percussion instruments. I'm a rhythm guy, and I'm studying different styles. I have to say, Luke, bro...nice set up. We have a small kit and I'm just a kid at this point. Your style and co-ordination with AAL was amazing. Thank you for the inspiration. Horns held High, \m/ !
These new ones are mixed so well compared to some of the older covers. The drums are right there in the front like they should be and not at all overcompressed or anything. And a fantastic cover at that. Great work on all parts!
Always have loved your style! And I see you have blended in a performing style into your grooves now. I really like it. Keep progressing Luke. You are many drummers inspiration.
This is fucking wild. '+_+'
*says the master of ghost notes*
Luke is a beast !
Matt is a beast !
Collaboration maybe ?? :D
and Matt please cover some Animals as leaders or Lamb of god songs :)
Wow. Hello Matt! I'm also a fan of yours! The super energetic monstrous drummer is here guys, check him out!
Also a Matt fan ^^
Matt and Luke, make some cover together, let the supernova explode!
and yet some people dare to call him "just show off, sticktricks" etc etc This is the real stuff!!

Steven
Has every fuckin right to brag.
In marketing, you go with what works. This is what works for Luke. I don't see why that's a problem for any of you.
***** this. ++++1
Wow, this is incredible. Perfection in the form of drums.
Oh hey guys!
Daniel Guhl its an instrumental band, no vocals bro
Probably one of the best drum covers on UA-cam.
the best cover on UA-cam
That was INSANE!
+Ben Minal A wild Ben appears

***** Good on you man. Like everything else, stick tricks in moderation! You nailed this song btw. Keep it up, you're going places.
You cover more animals Dave!
Should*
+LukeHollandDrums Hey with your talent, you don't need flashy stick tricks. Great stuff, Luke!
The whole song is a stick trick jajaja
Your control is ridiculous bro - great work!
I honestly open up this cover when I want to listen to Kascade, the drum focused mix really drives this song to another level.
I'm a huge Gartska fan and man, this is some pretty tough shit to cover note by note... that was extremely well done, Luke. Awesome.
Luke you are amazing, I had seen all your videos and this cover is one of the best covers. Congratulations man, keep on going!!
Cheers from Colombia
This is great.
Finally! Pure frame simplicity, no overwhelming stick tricks, amazing playing. Luke at his best.
Killing the game as usual, Luke!
I agree. This is crispier than Mcdonalds fries.
More killer than Vespene geysers.. I can't even
Kevin Goren of course it is! McDonalds fries are always soggy and gross
DREWSIF!!!!! I love your stuff man
Kevin Goren Checker fries, man... Checkers fries.
So what's the fill at 0:12-5:24? ;)
i'm dying hahahahaha

I'd say Tendinitis is by far the most ridiculous drum piece, but Ka$cade is defo up there.

Amazing cover Luke
You're awesome Luke and you are too Bryan!
***** hey luke you should cover somnarium by AAL really good song or song of solomon
Dude you should totally interview AAL
Matt Garstka is a brilliant man for creating such complex drum parts.
Our very good. Luke, know that you have many fans here in Brazil, you are much appreciated and is one of my mirrors to develop myself on drums. My English is not very nice, so I hope it to understand my comment. May God bless you.

@@AzureTears I guess I’m just the goat.
You know its a difficult song when Luke isn't doing his normal stick tricks...amazing cover dude
I can play 1:41 - 1:49 perfectly.
Rui Carneiro
Too hard for me
Rui Carneiro I can play 2:58 - 3:18 better than you.
+M. Haziq Oh yeah? I challenge you to a sitting contest them. Let's see who is better at doing nothing...
you want a cookie?
+Sir Bacon You didn't got it

That snare sound!
Ikr!
Matt Garstka is a genius. Amazing cover, Luke!
You know you've watched an awesome video when you're fixated on it the whole time and them verbally say "that was dope" at the end in an awe-struck tone.
That bridging pedal technique is really awesome! Nothing less expected from Garstka.
Killin' it Luke. Loved the energy in this vid!
I remember watching this yrs ago until i saw Matt's live playthrough at the Meinl drum festival.... Matt made his old song more groovy and complicated
Luke you are phenomenal at what you do. You by far are one of the best drummers in terms of skill, capability, and form.
this literally so spot on its unreal.
It amazes me that people can still talk crap with how high of quality this is. Why can't you just look at the video and have your mind blown without trying to one up the guy. Really nice stuff dude!
So now there are two people in the world that can drum to this song? :) Well done brother.
As someone who doesn't really like the overplayed (technicality-wise) pop covers, I find myself really enjoying the covers that are inherently technical because of the music. Did this one some justice, man.
Dude, this is serious thing. I can't imagine how long it takes to learn a piece like this. Great job!
Holy moly. I can honestly watch him drum for hours. Great job Luke.
10 seconds in and I know Luke isn't here to fuck around. Geez this is insane
Tom Krausz but the drumming starts at 12 seconds in
Stephen Barlow I know
Not gonna lie about it. This gotta be honestly maybe 30th time I watch this. It's such a good song and so entertaining to watch you nailing every beat of it. It's been nice to watch you grow as a drummer over these years. Thank you Luke very much and I'll keep coming back to watch your videos! I hope the very best for you!
Luke just keeps getting better and better!
I can't even fully comprehend the beauty of this this is beyond me
Badass. Shout out to Matt from AAL for writing these parts though, the drumming on The Joy Of Motion is some of the most technical, interesting, and downright difficult parts I've heard in a long while, seriously a masterpiece.
Incredible!! It's so good to have you back!! You have been missed!! Been heavily anticipating Animals As Leaders covers from you Luke!! Thank You!!
Hey, can anyone help me out with that part that's from 0:00 - 5:27 ?
Yes
It goes "drum drum drum cymbal" and then repeats about 65,434,657 times
The amount of concentration on your face is unbelievable. I've never seen you so focused on the technicality of a song. Usually you feel it and there's more freedom but you were locked in the whole time!

MAN! this cover just hits you in right in the face... period.
Such an inspiration to young drummers like myself.
Never stop!
Awesome job. Even the ghost notes were on point. I feel like remembering what to play would be the hardest part. Animals As Leaders don't fuck around.
This is absolute chaos. I can't imagine playing this... Hats off to you, dude..
Who is here in 2024 ? Boss.
My fav cover by him
Phenomenal work man. Great to watch your videos over the years and to see you go from pretty good to absolute machine! Keep 'em coming.
This just sort of blew my mind. I've posted about Luke Holland before, but man... This was.. just... boggling.
what about the guy who wrote it...
To even be compared to the original writer of a piece such as this would be a pretty high compliment.
Matt Gartska is beyond insane
I'm still blown away that the AAL guys can remember these tracks and perform them live! so much data LOL
now we just reached a level where i really can't imagine a single reason why someone disliked this video^^
That reason is ....Matt Garstka
Missing some ghost notes btw
Drums Sounds Amaizing!!
I've never hit the dislike button, even for anything I really don't like.. That being said, I really don't see how anybody could dislike this... Jealous much?
Not enough emphasis can be put on how perfect this is. Your timing and hand work are flawless.
Gorgeous drumming.
I have to say awesome JOB! The fact that you reached out to Matt for assistance speaks volumes to both of your work ethics and ability to step up and collaborate. I actually enjoy your version as much as AALs. Nice job getting a gig with Herr Lang as well!!
I can't imagine how much time must have gone into learning that...
Took me two or three weeks. I’d say luke learned it much quicker
Learning a song and understanding its methods and logic is much different
Your professionalism with learning the songs so precisely is fucking amazing. I really respect how much effort you put into your covers even whilst being heavily occupied with TWA, I dig it
Loved it! But bring back the Pyramix main studio location.. that place was awesome!!
Out of the covers I've seen, I feel like this one is the best in my opinion not just for great execution but also for the outstanding mix.
I don't see why you're still in The Word Alive. You are too good for them. You should join a progressive metal band or create one.
Because he does what he wants to do. So many musicians are much better and more talented than the music they choose to create, they play in their bands because that's the music they like to create. Just cause they can play more technical difficult stuff, doesn't mean they necessarily want to.
They're his best friends and they do what they love. It's as simple as that.
Versus Terminus I agree with both of you, but, although I genuinely dislike the band, I actually think he really suits the music they make
The lead guitarist of The Word Alive (Zack Hansen) is also in a much higher level than the music of the band. I think they are limited by the genre of the band.
If luke holland and the guitarist of The Word Alive would create a side project it would be epic.
FearlessX7 they have a side thing but no recorded material. look up "the fathers" and a video of luke and zach shredding at a club pops up.
I love to see this. So many people talking shit. I've been following Luke since he was 17, and I watched him achieving his own car, house, life. And he's 21, most of you won't get it all before your 40's.
This is cool and all... but can he play Uptown Funk. Now that's a real challenge.
Mate please tell me you're kidding... This song is infinitely harder...
Chronic Cobalt hmm not sure. I challenge him to play Katy Perry's firework too.
A real gay challenge is what you intended to say... Yeah?
***** yo dude take it down a notch, he might be in over his head with that one
***** I was gonna say Miley's Wrecking Ball.. But I didn't wanna push him too hard.
man that's just beautiful to watch, flawless animals as leaders drumming
really raised the bar with this cover, nice job dude (also i think you're too good to be in The Word Alive lol)

You should do a cover of But (ft. Matt Garska) by Chon :)
3 years later and I'm still bumping this. Absolutely incredible.
please do Language I: Intuition - The Contortionist

Dude. Rippin the whole way through. Masterful cover and beautiful technique. All the subtleties and ghosts. Well done sir.
I think my ovaries just exploded...
That doesn't sound really healthy...
Me to
Luke tends to do that lol
my middle nut just dropped... again lol
Fatima AlJanahi can i see?
Along with your technical abilities, you have so much style in how you move around the set! It's always fun to watch you play!
Matt playing the same is kinda bored - Luke seems near dying. But anyway - clean playing!
NOT MY FUCKING TEMPO
i really hope people like luke and matt go down in history for their skill behind a set just like danny carey and neil peart
2:57 DAB!!!
My favorite mix of any of the covers you've done
Oh, man...you ALMOST had it! Good attempt, but contact me if you really want to know how to play...he..hehehe...he has no idea I'm just a troll!! :D
These new ones are mixed so well compared to some of the older covers. The drums are right there in the front like they should be and not at all overcompressed or anything. And a fantastic cover at that. Great work on all parts!
Wish the snare's tone was a little higher :/
...
I don't know dude I'm a big fan of the lower tuned fat sound, although Matt Garstka does have his snares tuned very tight on the original recordings
Always have loved your style! And I see you have blended in a performing style into your grooves now. I really like it. Keep progressing Luke. You are many drummers inspiration.
vocals were a bit too loud, imo. Otherwise 10/10
Holy hell. I think this is my new favorite Luke Holland Video.
