HI Bob 😍💐 thank you for your feedback and for letting me know that this video was helpful / interesting with the content and information. 🫶🏼 oyster shell is amazing! In Kenya, many of the orchids that were growing in the landscape, when not in tree canopies, would be chiselled or mounted on ancient coral rocks to grow wildly on that. If they were chiselled into the rock, as the natural ground on the coast was old reef old coral with a lot of sand to fill in all the gaps, they would have the appearance to be growing in the sand only. It was so simple yet so effective. 😍 I never thought twice about the salt in the air, or possibly in the rock and still, the oncidiums and many cattleyas absolutely loved their location. Even angraecums while small at the time, were chiselled into that rock at the base of palm trees and then left to grow up the trees. Which they did, like ninjas!! Amazing visuals that I have in my brain. I miss those visuals so much. Being able to go and look at the specimens and stand below them see the root network doing it's spaghetti and seeing those that were at ground level taking over. It was a magical time. The orchids didn't always look the part because wildlife and such would take some structures out, but it was all beautiful to me 😃 thank you for watching and thank you for the flashback by mentioning oyster shells 🫶🏼 hope you had a wonderful day ❤️🌸

Even if there is a genus that is not specifically mentioned in a card, sometimes, just having a format helps to understand what another orchid needs, without being bombarded with info from a google search. Great video! Love that you broke it down into several types of Oncidiums. And the Care Cards are super helpful! Thank you again as always for sharing your knowledge-so appreciated! Hope you are enjoying Autumn in Spain; it has been exceptionally beautiful here in Pennsylvania! 🍂🧡🍁🎃
HI Barbara 😍💐 thank you so much for your positive feedback on this video, and for letting me know that the content, break down and care cards were helpful! That is so motivating and I really appreciate it 🤗 so far, Autumn has been fair to the orchids. Tonight I had to bring in the summer blooming phals, because it feels chilly outside, and if I am getting goosebumps then, I am sure that, they are as well. I so desperately want to be a hedge hog, right about now. Only to wake up in spring and know that all will be ok 🫣 fall in Pennsylvania is truly a beautiful experience 😍😍 thank you so much for watching, lovely lady!! Hope today was beautiful ❤️🌸
Hi Nina,Habari, My Oncidiums we’re doing really well then I went and gave them all away🙃. I only have four sickly ones left that I am trying to recover. This info video is going to be very useful for me. I will have to watch it a couple of times to digest all, thank you. Love the care cards guides! I am not very good at sticking to instructions though😆. Hope you are having a wonderful week rafiki, stay well, sending you loads of 💕🌼🌺😘🌸
Rafiki Sue 😍💐 sawa sawa hapa 😘 na wewe?? I am glad that you have some left, Sue, even if they are the weaker ones. I am sure that bringing them through is a lovely project to have and well, they won't be sickly for that long... I am certain of that 👍🏼 oh, ... I am an instruction follower, because it saves me from thinking too hard. With the dyslexia, I can tell you... a, b, c , 1, 2, 3 and I am all over it. Eventually, I will come out and ask questions and then I want to know why, but first, I have to have things in easy to understand steps. What a learning curve that was, up to the age of 36, when I understood what was 'wrong' with me 🤪 I used to read dictionaries like others read novels, just to see words and learn how to place the letters. Impressed my dad with my German after a year 😂😂 after the German language went through a reform, I bought the newest dictionary I could and started reading from foreword to end (true story!) then I could correct him on the new spelling 🤣 so far so good... gimme instructions, gimme a week, and then I come with questions and if they don't make sense, I can become a leach 😂😂 much love to you, rafiki!! It is always so good to see you in the comments! Thank you so very much for watching 😘❤️🌸
Wow! What a wonderful review of the Oncidium Alliance orchids! It's such a heterogeneous group of orchids. I love the Care Card format! Yes, like an orchid Rolodex! I have several Oncidiums that are relatively "easy," and several...well...not so "easy" relatively speaking! Love it! Thanks a bunch!
🌸🥷🏼Ann San 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼♀️🥰💐 hi!! Thank you so much for your feedback, for watching and for being so encouraging, I so appreciate it 🙏🏼 it really is all relative... I don't grow any miltoniopsis for the reasons of my climate. Same with odontoglossum... love the blooms, but I am not needing orchids that grow super large in a limited winter space, and having them outside to hopefully tolerate those conditions, I do not want to go through that and possibly failing. Just because my Masai Red can handle it, doesn't mean I am going to think that cool growers can as well. Just when we get complacent, you know how quickly orchids will tell us.... naaahhh 😅 hope your day was fabulous, 🌸🥷🏼. Have a lovely evening ❤️🌸
I have one of those and it stands in my living room window where the Sun shines loves it some lovely new Groves and new roots coming on there’s plenty of room in the pot at the moment I hope so I should leave it until it flowers and then repot it again like seats water likes the leaves sprayed as well am I doing the right thing you saying seem to be growing well thanks for the lovely information and interesting information you give us today hope you’re having a lovely day today catch you soon❤❤😊😊
HI Andrea 😍💐 yes... sounds like you have the care and conditions for your's very well dialled in 👍🏼 How big is your orchid? If you look into google and search for Oncidium Sweet Sugar, maybe the name will be your blooms? I have a smaller version, but I used to have 3 very very big ones. Maybe that will help start you off to find the ID for your's? Thank you so much for watching, lovely lady 🤗 hope you had a wonderful day 🌸
Extra video this one, I love the care cards concept they are very usefull and easy to read. Brilliant! Me los garde todos en una pagina de mi diário. Gracias, thanks a lot, obrigada.
HI Clementina 😍💐 thank you, for your feedback on the care cards, I so appreciate it! 🙏🏼 e estou tão feliz que você os salvou, é exatamente para isso que eles estão lá e obrigado por me informar que você fez isso! Esse tipo de resposta é muito encorajador. De nada absolutamente meu prazer 🤗 thank you very much for watching ❤️🌸
Larry, hi 😍💐 thank you!! Thank you so much for this feedback, wow... I appreciate that encouragement 🙏🏼 We have a few things lined up for the days when I cannot film outdoors in the winter. So.... I hope that I can do your curiosity justice. 🤞🏼 Hope your day was fabulous, Larry! Thank you so much for watching 🥰🌸
goodness, someone went all out on this one. Strangely, Oncidium are one that I struggle with, I think I want to water them too often and I can't seem to stop myself. I've got a massive Bratonia Estrelita outside in a basket hanging high in the tree and, well, I know that one doesn't get watered a lot. But in the house, I panic that they're getting too dry and I rot the roots. I'm getting better, but the struggle is real. And I have got to do better with the Tiger Crow that Yoshi just sent me. I've been searching for it, he happened to find it in someone else's greenhouse, I can't lose it.
Don Miguel 🥰💐 hola jefe!! I thought I might as well revamp my Care Cards, and much like my recipe cards, ... por que no! 😅 I could have added more, but the comments are there for a reason, so we shall see if there is 'that' specific one that I missed. I am sure that your Tiger Crow will be around for you to hear it roar. 🐯😅 hope the start of your week was fabulous, my friend!! Thank you so much for watching and well, thank you for your feedback 🥰 ❤️🌸
I have no Miltoniopsis because I don't want to have to deal with a hybrid that I do not know the parentage, and if whatever is in it, would tolerate the warmer months of the year. Getting the warmer varieties would then pose a problem during the colder months of the year, soooo, yeah! It hurts my heart to see them at the garden centre, because I doubt very much that even 10% that are sold live on to see another bloom, or they just die right where they are at, when not sold. Positive thinking is a great approach though, and then... the feeling of success is priceless 👍🏼👍🏼❤️
I didn't realize I had oncidiums when I bought the coconut orchid, miltoniopsis, and now the psychopsis, but they all have pseudobulbs and are thirsty. Compared to the coconut orchid and miltoniopsis, I prefer the thicker leaves of the psychopsis. They seem to be better for preventing pests and they're mottled.
😍Hi Joe 💐 amazing to have another piece of the puzzle fall into place, huh? 👍🏼 I agree that the psychopsis are prettier orchids and unless there is a spike to contend with, they also do not take up so much space. I would not have bought a maxilliaria if I knew that they could not stay outside during the winter, here. Just because of their size 😅 if you are into the fleshy, sturdy type of leaves like the psychopsis, check out Mule Ear Ocidiums. I don't think the leaves are mottled, but they have a similar look to those of the psychopsis 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, Joe! Have yourself a wonderful day 🫶🏼❤️🌸
@@NinjaOrchids There were two videos of the Mule Ear orchid (Trichocentrum) that had nice color patterns. One video was by Bumblebee. I wonder how long the flower spike lasts compared to a psychopsis. I guess a long flower spike is another sign that the orchid could be classified as an oncidium. I like the ones with the star shape, white and pink pattern (maybe Aliceara?), but I'm totally out of space right now. 😅
Yes, Alicearas have the star shaped blooms and usually smell of cracked pepper. I have the Aliceara Peggy Ruth Carpenter, which has similar blooms to what you describe. Watch out though, when you look into getting an Aliceara, while they are vigorous, they do have a bit of a climbing habit which is obnoxious when growing in pots. 🙄
HI Sheila 😍💐 I would have more, if I had more space! Especially seeing as they are getting some beautiful intergeneric ones with lots of colors, bigger blooms and more blooms... they truly are gorgeous and fun to grow! 👍🏼 hope your day was a good one, Sheila! Thank you so much for watching 🤗🌸
Oh my goodness this was super helpful! I love your care card format, it has all the key information I require that’s easy to access quickly! Thank you for all the hard work you put into creating that!
HI &yLand 😍💐 thank YOU so much for your positive feedback!! It took a hot minute to revamp my CareCards and update the information according to ºF, organic media etc etc. I could have done another 15, maybe? 😆 oh well, there is a reason that we have a comments' section. I hope that your day was awesome, &yLand! Thank you so much for watching and for your support ❤️🌸
Good, comprehensive video. I keep my Odontiodas and Odontoglossums in an unheated room in mid autumn through mid spring, which is when they seem to be happiest. Outside, they take night temperatures as low as 6 to seven degress Celcius without complaints. I would not say that the classic Odontiodas are easy, but I will also say that it is hard to generalize. If you look up the individual Odontioda (now unhelpfully labelled 'Oncidium') on Orchidroots, the parentage will give you a hint at how heat tolerant it is. The higher the percentage of Odontoglossum crispum/Oncidium alexandrae, the more stressed it will be by prolonged exposure to high temperatures. On the other hand, Psychopsis I would class as 'easy' - in terms of temperature requirements, it is an ideal house plant.
HI Kim 🤩💐 welcome!! I have not seen you here before, so a warm warm welcome is on order and a massive thank you for being here! I appreciate it very much 🤗 I also appreciate your comment! This added nuggets of info are very valuable... thank you for taking the time to write them out. 🦒🤸♀🙋♀🙌 Another brilliant video, so thorough and well explained in the cards. I will have to watch it again and maybe again to be able to absorb all information fully and really profit from your effort and experience. The cards are a great idea as were the ones you've provided with fertilizer routines. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏 Have a wonderful start to the week, one day less towards spring 😂 Much love to you and your's 🥰😘😍
FFF 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼♀️🥰💐 thank YOU, meine liebe Freundin for your positive and encouraging feedback! I am glad that, as an experienced grower yourself, you see the advantage of having everything at one glance, without all the different searches in google. I certainly got to know my orchids before their arrival, back in the day. It took time to make my own Care Cards, but there is something added to the anticipation of receiving new orchids, while filling out my information 🥰 it was fun. I hope that your day was beautiful, amiga mia! It was so nice and warm out today ... LOVED it! Have a cozy rest of your evening 😘 thank you so much for watching ❤️🌸
H. This was really interesting and helpful. I have recently had some oncidium alliance issues and had to do repots. I wasn’t aware of the oncidium particular needs for calcium so I’m going to try watering with calmag and hope this will help them survive the repots. Thanks so much for sharing. I enjoy watching your channel. 💗💖💗🙋♀️
Mike!! hi!!! 🤩💐 wow! It has been a hot minute 😍 I sincerely hope that you are doing well! Thank you so much for watching my videos, supporting the channel and your kind feedback 🤗 seeing as it has been this long, I wonder if you saw the little something something for you in this video ua-cam.com/video/GZLJy65Jrw8/v-deo.html I don't want you to think that you have been passed by 🥰 the speed of growth on oncidiums, together with the think leaves, really needs to be supported by giving more calcium. The leaf color break can be avoided, but if it is a genetic thing, then it is something that we learn to live with, as long as the orchid is otherwise growing and blooming well 👍🏼 so good to see you again 😃 thank you so much for commenting! Hope your day was fabulous 🥰🌸
@@NinjaOrchids It’s good to hear from you, too. I’m totally frustrated. I’ve lost too many orchids lately. I’m not sure but I think the issue is a bacterial infection. I’ve lost most of my phals. So I’m sterilizing media as much as I can before any repots. I should probably use a systemic fungicide/bactericide but I’ve held back because I have 2 cats and one sometimes chews some of the leaves. Meanwhile, learning about the nutritional needs of the orchids may help me improve the strength of the orchids to fight off infection. I’m reviewing some of your older videos and those of some of the other channels to see what else I can learn to help my orchids do better. Wish me luck. I’ll get in touch if anything comes to mind. Thanks so much for your feedback. Stay well. 💗💗💗🙏🤞🙋♀️
Hello Nina, yet another great, informative and entertaining video!! Thank you. I have 2 Miltonias that I plan on repotting once I see some new root growth, I will pot one in moss/bark mixture and one in small LECA in a self watering pot. Of course, I will follow your recommendations (as I have been doing since I found you on YT) all with good results, I just try and tweak your info to my environment!! Happy Growing Everyone.
HI Wanda 😍💐 thank YOU, so much, for your positive feedback, Wanda, I appreciate the comment and the encouragement! Tweak tweak and if need be, tweak again 👍🏼👍🏼 the fact that you are having good results shows that your tweaking is on point 👍🏼🥳 great news and news that I love to read 🙏🏼 hope your day was fabulous, Wanda! Thank you so much for watching 🥰🌸
Hi Nina, discoloration on leaf tips on oncidiums is an indicatiion of over watering. I grow oncidiums mounted. Oncidiums love indirect sunlight and humidity at the same time. Mounted oncidiums throw a lot of aerial roots. By observing the root tip, we can gauge the health of the plant. Recently I have added two Sherry babies and two, three oncidium ( yellow long flower) all mounted to the guava trunk I got from our neighbour. Waiting to see the results. Oncidiums with expert seal, I don't want as I grow out. Thank ypu so much Nina for the ton of information.
HI Jose 🤩💐 it can be an indication of overwatering, yes! It depends on the climate, and I so appreciate you adding that in the comments 👍🏼 your guava trunk is going to be sensational when all your's burst into bloom 🫣💥 its going to be so fragrant as well. Just wonderful!! Thank YOU so much for watching, and supporting me the way you do! 🙏🏼 I so appreciate you, amigo! Wishing you a wonderful Tuesday 🥰🌸
Hi Nina, I had to watch this video again. You took me to school yet again. I have a Ons. Catatante that is a vigorous grower, its in a 5.5" pot now and is bursting out. This orchid needs a 7" or 8" pot. No flower spikes but lots of new growth and roots. Should I repot now? Thoughts.
🌸🥷🏼 Bob San 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼♀️🥰💐 hi!! Oh, that is a beautiful orchid and yes, she is quite the vigorous orchid. I am so glad that you have that one, because she is not shy about how well she grows and when she blooms, it is going to be insanity!! Repot now and yes, us the 8" pot, because all those new roots are going to fill a pot very quickly, so buy yourself some time. She is thirsty, there is no risk of the pot staying wet for too long... you may feel as though she is drinking you out of house and home 😂 wonderful orchid, gorgeous color and it is truly fun to grow orchids like that! Enjoy 💪🏼 thank you for watching this video again, thank you for the support and thank you for your friendship 🫶🏼🌸🥷🏼 have yourself a wonderful Thursday ❤️🌸

Thank you so much for watching, lovely lady 🤗 hope you had a wonderful day 🌸
Thank you for sharing, have a great and save day also!!!
Ingrid 😍 hi! 💐 thank YOU, so much for being here! 🙏🏼 I hope your day was beautiful, befitting a beautiful lady 🥰 ❤️🌸
You are amazing! The care cards are glorious. Can’t wait to see which alliance you do next.
My “gotta do better” with is Miltoniopsis. But we shall overcome and win this battle.
Love them/ need more 🥴
HI Sheila 😍💐 I would have more, if I had more space!
I always hope that people go to the comments for more information, so... it was kind of you to write it out 👍🏼 thank you so much for watching, and, once again, welcome 🥰🌸
Stay well. 💗💗💗🙏🤞🙋♀️
I will be here if you ever need any form of confirmation ... or a second look just to have another opinion 👍🏼👍🏼 ❤️
Never found the name for the one that I’ve got but it’s big yellow and it has brown spots on it had it for three years running now
Hi Nina, I had to watch this video again.
Thank you for another very informative and informatively engaging video/ conversation. I look forward to my daily Ninja 🥷 vid. Have a wonderful day my dear 😊
🌸🥷🏼 Julie San 😍🙌🏼🤸🏼♀️🥰💐 good morning, beautiful!! I think I will make it to your office to leave you one of these 💐 just in time before you rock up 😘 thank YOU so much for your time, your support... for watching and leaving an encouraging comment, 🌸🥷🏼 hope you had a great weekend and a great start to the new week ❤️🌸
