It would be nice with common words (and not so many brand names). Like they did with "chocolate" in one video :D The root of the word was similar, but the endings and some sounds were different. Or with coffee, cafe, kawa :D

As a Spanish person I am we don't pronounce Facebook as she said, we use the English pronunciation for it.. she's focused on the spanish standard pronunciation as if we're reading Spanish, (maybe that was all about) but the reality is quite different.

La pronunciación de Spiderman viene de como se menciona el superhéroe en las películas originales de Toby Maguire, hay que tener en cuenta que España es un país donde la gente no se lleva demasiado bien con el inglés y más hace 20 años (Spiderman 1 salió en 2002) así que cambiaron la pronunciación para facilitar al espectador la misma. Para el resto de superhéroes que han ido saltando a la gran pantalla a lo largo de los años su pronunciación es la misma que en inglés dejando de lado alguno cuyo nombre hemos "traducido", como el famoso caso con el que tanta gente se ríe de Wolverine siendo Lobezno. Hoy en día incluso la pronunciación de Spiderman ya es la original y poca gente y sobretodo mayor, como yo que vimos la trilogía original seguimos diciendo Espiderman jajaja. Un saludo camarada!

I was surprised at the similarities between the Polish and Spanish pronunciations. In Australia we say most of these brands in a similar way to the US - except for Adidas, which we pronounce with emphasis on the first syllable.
I think it's a matter of that both languages are pronouncing words as they are written.
Like word "queue" is normally pronounced "Q", but both of them would probabaly pronounced that "queue".
So as native Polish speaker learning English was difficult thing for me, because i always pronounced things as written and in English I need to pronounce the letter A differently in every word for some unknown reason

Yeah in Poland they dont say "USA" much but more so "Ameryka" or what you wrote, but I guess the video is about pronunciation not translation or what is commonly used even thought for some words they say it

I've always noticed that there are semi-similar pronunciations between Polish, Spanish, Portuguese, and French but obviously with a different accent.
I often have wondered if it was the influence from the Church and its Latin influence that caused Polish to have that slight similarity with the Romance languages.
@@HypnoticChronic1 The first words Polish borrowed from other languages were from Czech language. Then we took words from Latin > German > Italian > French > Ruthenian/Russian > Oriental/Turkish > English. It is such a simplification that describes how we borrowed words over time. However right now according to the Polish dictionary we have the biggest amount of loanwords from English, then French > Greek > Latin > German > Italian.

I was taught in French class back in the day that the French name for the US was “Etats Unis.”
And that's correct...perhaps in spoken, "US" or "states" is getting used more frequently, but États-Unis is still used just as often.
I never ever said USA. Always "États Unis", or just "États" depending of the context (like the Americans who often just say: 'states).
US is United States so it makes perfect sense.

Notice that Polish and Spanish pronunciation are both very similar. Why? Because we both don't have the "schwa sound", we pronounce strong "A's" and "E's", and we have hard "R's". We even have the same words with similar meaning like serio, gratis, fotografia, historia, magia, debil, pandemia, plaża (playa), cebula (cebolla), kolega (colega) etc. Even when a Polish and a Spanish-speaking person both speak English their accents might sound similar in many ways..

In spanish, we have different ways to talk about the same thing, and it depends on the region and the country...
PD: In general, we try pronounce the brands as much the same way as the original pronunciation.
The Spanish girl was just saying everything wrong💀 Most people pronounce things with a slight Spanish accent but not wrong like she was doing.

In Poland we don't pronounce it /nikee/ even though we say /nikee/. That's because /nikee/ is the plural of /nike/ (and we use plural nouns for shoes). So by saying /nikee/ we actually mean Nikes.

That's your interpretation of it coming from a person that is almost certainly older than 35. I'm not saying it's bad, it's just that something you came across years ago but try to apply today when everybody says it like 'nikee' regardless of situation.

It was years ago when most of the people pronounced name of the brand without 'ee' sound at the end, and the only cases when it sounded like 'nikee' was when they were referring to actual shoes made by nike adding Polish plural suffix -i at the end (for non-Polish speakers, in Polish we pronounce brand name in plural when we refer to the type of garment which name itself is in plural, like shoes, pants, boxers etc., so in Polish it would be 'I'm wearing adidases/nikes/wranglers' etc.).
We loved learning about these difference from the girls' own experience... watching this felt a little bit like travelling and meeting new foreign friends again☺

Being Korean, despite living in the US for 15 years. I am still used to saying Adidas not the American way, but European way, because that is how we say in Korean too.
The European pronunciation ist closer than the American one because Adidas is actually a German Brand and not from America as well as Puma.

Sure Javier, I'm sure you have never heard Spanish people (the ones that don't speak any English, which there are plenty) that pronounce literally by using the Spanish sounds. I think she did a great job by explaining it from our Spanish perspective. If you pronounce it in the English way then this video makes no sense at all.

Spain is so different from Latin America, here we say things like in English or pretty similar because of the big influence that USA has in Latin American countries

I think the lady was just trying to hypthesize “how would it sound if we pronounce it the Spanish way”. I think in general, they follow English sound. I know for sure, Sprite in Spanish is still the same, and no one would really say “spree tae”.

It's definitely no surprise German and English sound similar. Both are in the same Germanic language group, plus also German is the biggest ancestry in the United States, so I'm sure that's definitely had an effect on how US English sounds at least.

@@bilbohob7179 I don't know where you got this from but no, there are 45% of words in the english language which come from romaniced language, but the english have a very diffrent pronounciation of words, you can especially see that from the words which original came from romaniced language like rotation. The r, t and the whole "tion" part is completly diffrent spoken and in french the n would disapear completly.
I'm from Spain and we say "los Estados Unidos" or "Elon Musk" as you say in the US. Everything about Spanish in this video is wrong.
And Nike should be pronounced as "Nee-keh" because it's a Greek word and the name of the Goddess of victory. As an Spaniard would pronounce read straight.

In Poland we say "Nikees" for a pair of shoes not a brand, because it sounds plural to us, we say brand's name the British way normally. Amazing to see Poland represented anyway

People say English and German pronunciation is the most similar because of they're both Germanic languages. No, that's not the point: if Germans wanted to pronounce brand names their way just like other countries do, it would sound as bizarre for others as sometimes French, Spanish or Polish pronunciation. Germans just willingly try to stick to the original pronunciation as much as possible; which other countries do not do usually, doing it just to the point it's suitable for their 'comfort of the tongue'. I don't know if it's just considered cool in Germany, or maybe it is still some post-war cultural reminiscence of not trying to 'appropriate' elements of other cultures and pay them proper respect? (but that one explanation would fall apart with 'Zamzung':)

5:35 "Nike" is named after the Greek goddess of victory, Νίκη, which in Ancient Greek you would pronounce "nee-keh", and in modern Greek as "nee-kee". But English has a way of pronouncing Greek deities' names with half-Greek, half-English pronunciation (exemple : Hay-dees instead of Ah-this (or Ah-thehs in Ancient Greek, the letter 'd' (Δ,δ) in Greek is pronounced like the 'th' sound in 'that')). So bc Nike is an American company, the right way to say it would be the English way, but if you wanna get technical, the "right" way would be either "nee-keh" or "nee-kee"
In England, Adidas and Nike are pronounced like the Spanish, different from American.

I suggest going for names of everyday items: each girl pronounces the name for lets say "egg" in each of the 5 langugages as if it was to be read according to thr phonetic rules of her mother tongue. For example: jajko which is Polish for an egg would probably sound super different if read out in each of the five languages. You can also dig out some tongue twisters from each language and try the other person say them like: stół z powyłamywanymi nogami. Make sure you have a 700 ml bottle of vodka ready oherwise you'll fail miserably:)

I think (as a spanish person) that in Spain there are both people, those who pronunce all in the english way and those who pronunce in the spanish way, but in my experience, I think it's more popular to pronunce Starbucks, Ironman, and mostly all the words in this video and in the first one with its original pronunciation, in english.
I think Claudia Is pronouncing phonetically the words because the brands and characters they choose are pronounced as in English in every country. The video Will be boring hearing over and over the same word, so, she add the phonethical pronounciation in Spanish.

Actually, even from a German point of view... erm, or rather 'listening'... 🙃, spelling Nike as 'Nikee' makes way more sense than 'Nyk' (like many/most Germans do), cuz 'Nikee' is simply more consistent with the word's origin, which is the ancient mythological Greek goddess who personified victory, hence [ˈniːkə] in German or /ˈnaɪki/ in English. Also, the company themselves have clarified a couple of times that the word's origin and thus its correct pronunciation is identical to the one of the mythological diety.

Okay, Im German too and we also pronounce Nike as “nigh-key” it just depends on the person. Like I have heard pronounce Nike as “nyke” but my family and friends and I all pronounce it Nike as “nigh-key” (which I think is also how it’s supposed to be pronounced) aaaand we also just say USA or die Staaten (the states) or sometimes Amerika.

Nike is an actual name and not the word for a thing - like the example "bike" given in the video.
It's the name of an ancient Greek goddess: "Νίκη" (pronounced as 'knick-uh')
And the Americans read it is as 'nuye-key'.
