For those who are suprised by how harsly they can joke about one another I think it is important to understand that the bond between nordic countries today is very strong, more between some countries then others, due to a long shared history, the closeness in culture, language, social norms etc etc. It is sometimes almost like the bond between siblings who love eachother but still fight and pick on one another. If you google you can for example find long lists of norweigan jokes about swedes and vice versa. It's just fun and games and the humor we can have with one another! But I understand if it can sound harsh since not all nations have the same sort of bond to another/other countries and that it can be unfamiliar to some viewers.

After visiting Finland, I must say that it is probably the Finnish people who differs mostly among each Nordic Nation in terms of personality characteristics. That is why I like them much: they are special, like came from another planet or at least from The Lord of the Rings as elf like creatures:)
@@emilwahlroos5570 From the same planet where we speak Finno-Ugric languages, ie. Hungary. But seriously, although it is clearly a generalization, I' have noticed some fairly specific personality traits when I was there. I'm talking about, of course, the famous introvertedness of Finnish people - which, I emphasize, is a prejudice - but seems to me actually true for some level. And this is indeed a thing which I can sympathize with, because nowadays everything is about being loud, extroverted, communicative, etc, but they are not. And I like it.
Actually finns were the basis for trolls in swedish folklore.
@@vanyadolly Wait really wtf? Coming from a curious Norwegian
@@Tranitosaur It's a theory, a part of it actually makes a certain amount of sense in that There has been more Swords found in Finland than Denmark most likely meaning Finns made alot of swords, weapons tools ect. Vikings didnt really fight Finns, they were very symbiotic with them, the only raids they did were failures and they chose to do trade as at the time Finns crafted the best swords. Blacksmiths and similiar crafts have a very Mythological and Divine position in Finnish mythology and likely was a part of how Finnish people were seen at the time along with being wizards and shamans.
@@pyromorph6540 yep, Vikings were also scared of Finns, they thought that Finnish women can cast spells and make ships sink. There were couple of battles, where only few Vikings survived alive even though Finns were outnumbered.
This “troll “ thing is interesting. At least swedes used (probably still do) think that Finnish people are darn ugly and they called us mongols etc. They also measured our features (like they did to Jews in Germany) to make sense why these people look so different. This was of course later in the 19th century.

I'm from Sweden and i've always loved all our nordic countries, thought most my countrymen did the same, I love you all either way for all that's worth.
I think we can all agree that despite making jokes about each other and making fun of each other, were still kind of a one big family. Thats what id like to think at least lol 🇫🇮
Culturally, but genetically, the Finns are adopted, imo
@@willrichardson519 lmfao yeah sure😂

I like your cool attitude!
thats very wholesome
As a Russian I have met Norwegians(very open and nice people to talk to) and Finns(honest and helpful) liked those very much.
And those two are the worst of the lot. ;)
Benjamin Christensen nooo, those are the coolest!
@@NathalieHoran Hehe.. Only if you are into Metal and Myseost. Let's be honest; it all comes down to the Carlsberg. ;)
Benjamin Christensen no man! You've got it all wrong. The nature! Norway has all the fjords and mountains and forests and Finland's got a thousand lakes! And so much snow, that's real winter. Also Iceland have beautiful nature, volcano landscape! The finnish language is epic and sounds so interesting. Norwegians colonized Iceland and they were the true vikings!:) the swedes always think they are the best at everything, so utterly smug, but they are losing their true swedish culture. Danmark is ok but nothing more. The most boring nordic country but I like the language a bit.
@@NathalieHoran I was being sarcastic. ;)
I have to learn Finnish, Finland is the coolest :D

Yup, she smiles and your hurt gets warm. She's got natural beauty and a perfect smile ofcourse.

@@teronevala2064 ehy. in Saxon sagas welsh tribes are described with those words :P
Well the boring truth is that actually, we were too poor to be robbed, so they settled on trading fur and such with us, and also taking advantage of our networks along the rivers southeast.
@Jan Eriksson yeah. i will send u a horse's head!!!!! :P
@Jan Eriksson no, mister.it's an old "heathen wicca saxon curse" (probably imported in sicily with the arrive of normans and their saxon squires :P)
As a Dane, I thoroughly enjoyed the Swedish guy's impression of our language 😂 It was kinda spot on!
I was born Danish then my parents moved to California.I still speak some in case anyone ever threatens me with a gun or knife. They'd probably drop the weapon and run away pissing themselves.
@Karen Hahaha thanks-nothing to it.It's the only use for Dansk here asides from talking to my parents.

This reminds me of that joke that Chinese, Japanese, Koreans hate each other.
I know Swedes are really salty about Norway's oil reserves.

This was freaking hilarious and so easy going love it new subi😍😂
it's the Finns who sound like Elves! Finnish is so alike to Tolkien's Elven languages and that's actually what made me learn it :D
It's funny because sometimes in the Lord of the rings thrilogy movies when elfs or orcs are talking I sometimes kinda almost understand what they are saying.
Middle High German sounds like elvish.
In fact Tolkien took inspiration from Finnish for the Elven languages.
@@AleksiHimself
Elves are from germanic mythology, there is even a german song from the middle ages about elves. The song is called "Von den Elben".
Jean Luk Pretty much every European culture has cretures like elfs in their mythology. Nevertheless tolkien was big fan of nordic and germanic mythology. However the language of elves is based of Finnish and Latin. Dwarves he shaped after jews and their language is based on hebrew (which is rather obvious). The language spoken by rohirim is based purely on germanic languages. The black speach is apparently based on some ancient mesopotamian language like hurrian.

Sweden.. arrogance and Nordic kind of similar stupid liberality and polite-correctness as in America. Other Nordics do it better
Denmark.. my experience.. they are mostly polite.. more than other Nords.. chill and care more about environment (both natural and artificial) around them than rest of us

As a Dane, I would say home is where the heart is
Swedes think they have no culture worth of preserving. That's why they are so happy for and friendly towards immigrants. They love everything non-Swedish, especially everything Middle Eastern (with the exception of everything Jewish).
I love all my nordic brethren and sisters!

@@KaiserWilbur We’re both. Our language is Finno-Ugric but both geographically and culturally we’re Nordic.
@@IL-bq1eo you are so different than other Nordics though , similar to Estonians
@@KaiserWilbur Finno-Ugrics isn't really a meaningful concept as anything other than a language family (and even that classification is actually quite controversial). The Finns are genetically and culturally the result of Uralic, Germanic, and Baltic peoples mixing together. Culturally, Finland is far closer to the other Nordics than any others, and our closest genetic neighbors are the Estonians and Swedes.
@@SRBOMBONICA86 As a Norwegian Sami I love all about Finland, and the Finnish are definitely Nordic. The Sami have more than 90% genetics in common with the Norwegians, and the Sami language is related to Finnish. I would say the Sami ties Norway and Finland together.

Youre right
It would be nice to see what natives of the romance languages think of each other
I'd be very surprised if they didn't have a lot of beef with each other. And you'd also be opening up whole cans of worms about whether or not to include culturally, and possibly ethnically distinct regions, like the Occitan, the Catalonians, the Galicians, and fringe regions, like the Maltese, whether or not to include the Walloons as a distinct entity from the other French, whether to include ecclesiastical Latin, etc etc etc...
@Tina Yael Severinovna M. Yup! I'm sure! And that's not even taking into account the Venetian independence movement in Italy. Or the North Italian breakaway wish.
You go to Spain, and it's the Catalonian region, who are Romance language speakers, and the Basque, who aren't, but are more European than any other Europeans. But their border crossed over to France, the way the Kurds of the Middle East crosses Turkey, Iran, Iraq and Syria, and are now in deep ..
. merda now that Trump pulled the US troops out of the region, but that's by the by.
The Galicians of Spain might have more in common with Portugal. And France has plenty of subregions: Brittany, Occitan, plenty more I'm less familiar with, all proud of their distinctiveness. And then you've got the Swiss French, the Belgian Walloons. And then you might want to include the people from Québec in Canada.
And then you've got the French overseas territories and the Alliance Francaise, in Africa, the Caribbean, etc etc etc.
It'll be a massive headache.
@Tina Yael Severinovna M. Yeah, it'll be like at least a half hour video to just get everyone to comment on everyone else once.
Unless you change it to what the Romance language countries think about each other. Then, you'd just get Italians, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and the often forgotten Romanians. Would you include the other minority regional dialects? Probably not.
@Tina Yael Severinovna M. So true! Well! Good thing it's not our job! Good luck to the organisers! If they want to see our thoughts, it's recorded right here!
