This video shows how to install new spark plug wires (aka: ignition wires / leads) on a 1990-2000 Mazda MX-5 Miata / Eunos Roadster.
The car in the video is a 1991 Miata with a 1.6L engine and a firing order of 3-2-1-4
Be sure to note the location of the existing spark plug wires before removing them.
The 1.6L cars have a different coil pack than the 1.8L models. The firing order is also different.
The 1.8L Miatas (1994-2000) have a firing order of 4-1-2-3
Parts used:
NGK RC-ZE21 (stock # 9160) Spark Plug Wire Set.
Synthetic Dielectric Grease.

Great informative video thank you 😊 on my Eunos the cylinder numbers are stamped into the coil pack. I only noticed them because I cleaned the debris and grease off it.
Your Vaseline trick just solve my engine misfire issue. Need that to push the wire all the way.
Enjoyed watching the spark plug wire install
Getting high on HT leads 😁
u can mix coil 1 with 2 and 3 with 4 cause they double fire... they fire on compression and fire on exhaust. so u wong get miss fires... try it..
Well, I bought some "performance" sparkplug wires by il.motorsport, but the cable seems to be slightly too long, so it'd flop around... oh well.
The part of the the spark plug wire that attaches to the coilpack doesn't seem to secure very firmly. It doesn't click onto anything. Won't that screw up the connection?
If it is seated correctly and pushed all the way down, the teeth on the connector will grab the sleeve inside the coil.
Is the spark plug order different on a 1.8 dohc?
On my 95 1.8, it's also 4-1-2-3.
The firing orders for 1.6 and 1.8 cars are in the video description.
did it stop your issue at low rpm?
Yes. It cleaned up the low rpm and miss-fire.
My kid had someone power wash his engine and ever since then he’s had acceleration problems after every shift. No misfires though. Now that person told him to replace his spark plug wires and that will fix it. Guess my kid just wasted his money on new wires for no reason.
Not necessarily, spark plug wires are an maintenance item on Miatas.
Did he check for moisture down the spark plug tubes?
@@MiataMan thanks for replying! The power wash was done a month ago, I think/hope any moister around the plugs would have burned off by now. Mechanic said he doesn’t think it’s a fuel pump or filter problem but maybe the air intake sensor or maybe a bad throttle body? Gonna be hit and miss to find the cause I guess.
Turns out it was a bad fuel injector. New injector fixed the hesitation .
Wats number motor is?
