Quest for a 4lb Canal Perch
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 жов 2024
- I have been lure fishing for Perch for more than 15 years and I have been lucky enough to catch some amazing fish over the 3lb barrier but a 4lb Perch had always been a couple of oz away. Join me on the canal side hunting for that one take that can beat a long standing personal best and some tips and advice on targeting canals.

Nice one, well done!
Cheers Teddy.
And absolutely stunning perch 💯🎣👀🔥💪👍
Brilliant! Congratulations on you 4lber.
Cheers Dave 👊🏻
Spoiler alert
Great video very informative and some great tips 💯🎣🔥
Really nice fish, next season my cross hairs are on a big perch!! Well done
Guy
the occasional angler Trout waters are good for the better fish but I always wanted my big perch to come from a river or a canal. NOW is the time to catch the big ones 💪🏼👍
Ady Woodchucker out of interest what is your take on lure colours in coloured water. There appears to be two camps 1/ dark for silhouette 2/ bright fluorescent or white high contrast colours?
I was fishing chew valley for a few days in October trying for the perch..... it was a hard few days (I have a lot to learn about perch!!)
@@theoccasionalangler6956 I try not to get dragged into these type of conversations because I am a firm believer that when Perch are on the feed that color doesn't really matter however blade baits have everything (flash, color, rattle and depth) so all bases are covered. Plugs have always been my first pick for bigger Perch and naturals in clear water and bright in colored water seems to make sense but I have had lots of big Perch on bright colors in clear water and visa versa so work that one out.
Great job lovely fish
Cheers Carl 👍
Another cracking video, and what a perch!! Well done that man, awesome.
Daniel Grant beers Daniel, I hope the emotion came through in the video 👍
What an absolute tank!
Black Country Piker cheers Steve 😘
Nice video and super Perch mate. I agree 100% over the net mine is always fully extended and open, only closed when I’m walking to a new area.
Cheers Len, have a good season.
@@AdyWoodchucker will do Ady had a few 3lb Perch up here in Wolves from the cut and I know there are bigger. Westin Sticklebacks and Neds in white lightening or the deal seem to be the killers at moment. Have a great season mate booked tomorrow off as it’s the 16th even though no close on canals it’s still a special day.
@@lenraby5920 I have it booked off but not in a rush to hit stagnant rivers at the moment. One good flush and I will be on the barbel and maybe perch at the weekend.
Belter of a perch really enjoyed the video thanks for sharing your tips ... also like to add that it was great to see someone taking the necessary precautions with a wire trace when pike could be present that is outstanding fish care a lot of videos on youtube show people targeting perch with no wire traces and being snapped up gets me down
If you have trebles then is irresponsible to not use a wire trace, I have caught a lot of big Perch over the years with a wire trace to tell me that Perch are not bothered. Glad you enjoyed the video Jason.
That is one absolutely stunning stripey!! Well done my friend 👍🏼
Charlie Neilson cheers Chaz 👍
Nice footage of it going back in, what a fish, well done!
Paul Wilkinson cheers Paul 👍
Stunning Perch Ady.

Chris Jerrard Cheers Chris 👌
Superb Ady, well done.
Hutch118000 cheers buddy 👌
There’s a 5 pounder in the canal by London fields
That's not a surprise, I think the same d]lad had it out twice now.
Lost it last night - never seen such a biggun
@@maxvallance8987 🥲
Absolute monster Ady well done mate. 👍
Fanter Fishing cheers Matt, I think you can see by the shake in my voice and hands how special that fish was for me.
Nice vid Ady. I fish around Manc mostly but could do with finding a nice peaceful stretch like that!
Joseph B sadly not a numbers water but the rewards are worth the hours.
That's a big stretch of canal Ady, is it the Manchester ship canal?
Just found your channel, good shit 👍🏻
Glad you are enjoying it 👊🏻
Very nice perch indeed!! What a catch!
Thank you.
Nice Perch 🎣👍. Great video.
Craig Chisnall cheers Craig 👍
Cracking Perch Ady 👍
Tony Ruddy Cheers Tony 👍
cracking fish that ade, well done mate👍🎣
Mark Carp cheers Mark 👊🏻
What good Ady breh!
Awesome perch
TERRY BLUSH cheers Terry, I am made up it.
Clonker Ady ! My pups have all gone now so I'm getting out over the weekend - I'll be happy with something half that size ! :) Nice one !
The Diving Fisherman I bet you are gutted, my wife wanted another 😂
@@AdyWoodchucker we kept the top dog :) It's mayhem with him and the girls :) Good times. Typical that the only day I can fish is storm Ciara-notgoingfishing FFS. I may have pleased the puppy gods but I've obviously done something to piss the fishing gods off :) :)
The Diving Fisherman yes I think I did the right thing swapping days this weekend, it’s venom outside buddy.
Could play rugby with that one! Fine specimen 👍
Cracking fish m8 👏👏👏👍👍
Kev Roulson Cheers Kev, yes I am made up with it 🤗
Belter of a Perch from canel well done fella :)
Cheers Martin👊🏻
I'm happy to only get one fish in a day when it's a fish like that one and very nice condition for a fish that size as well 👍 Thanks for the video and as always great info as well. Might be a strange question but why use a 20lb trace with 10lb braid?
Scott Lee cheers Scott, it’s super supple wire which aids presentation and 10lb just seems not thick enough if you do get piked if you know what I mean. Most would use flouro but with two trebles you just need to use wire.
Clonker that lad well done....
parkland piker cheers Ian 👊🏻
What a beast mate 👍 dream fish once I get better at perch fishing
Matt Wooldridge time in the bank is invaluable, you just have to keep telling yourself it’s going to happen.
Ady Woodchucker absolutely hopefully can dedicate more time this year
Matt Wooldridge good luck Matt 🎣👊🏻
Would you suggest to keep moving on canals even if you have seen big perch come out on other methods on a certain small section (sort of a basin and start of canal.. iv concentrated my last 4 short sessions in that area and only had 1 small pike. Think it's time I do what your doing and keep moving?
Although Perch do hang around in localised areas its amazing how many big Perch are well away from any structure or features. Pressure can cause this and I would assume that this is the problem you are having. My advice is to get away from the crowds and cover as much water as possible, Perch turn on and off the feed very quickly so staying on one spot that has pedigree can work but for me its always been a matter of putting the leg work in and finding the feeding fish rather than waiting for them to have a feeding spell.
@@AdyWoodchucker thanks for that.. your not wrong about the pressure on this spot! I'm gonna move on next session 👍
@@leafysfishing Best of luck.
@@AdyWoodchucker thanks for the advice.. smashed my pb and caught a 2lb 7oz perch from the margin shelf at my feet. Had my net out and ready 🤣 put a quick vid on my youtube channel of it. Nothing like this tho 👌
Great video. What an awesome Perch. Keep an eye on my channel ... On Wednesday I’ll be posting a 4lber I caught for the cameras the other week 😁👍🎣
Cheers buddy and well done on the 4lber 👍👊🏻
And yourself. Well done mate! 👍
Livebait, or whole lobworms work well for big Perch, just as its getting dark.
Thats too easy, as a lure angler I wanted the 4 to come to a lure. Dont get me wrong I have done a bit of bait fishing for them just caught nothing big.
@@AdyWoodchucker Im a lure angler too for the most part, but for specimen fish, nothing beats bait. 3lb 6oz is my biggest lure caught Perch, and that was a long time ago
hillbill79 I am planning of doing a bait video for perch if I get chance, hopefully it will be well received 👍
@@AdyWoodchucker I'm sure it will mate. :)
Dream fish that or a 2lb roach neither of which I’ve caught
Mark Cousins sadly it’s a numbers game in the right water, I fished 8 hours that day for one follow and the 4lber.
What rod an reel are you using mate ?
Nick Rawcliffe Hi Nick, Ross and reels are a personal thing but a 1000 size shimano reel will keep the outfit balanced and although on the video I was using a baitcaster outfit I would usually use my BFT Lizzard X Adam orre signature series with a casting weight up to around 20g
I just subbed 😉
Chunk that one Ady well in👍
Canal Piker cheers buddy 👍
Have you tried any of the BFT Lizzard X Perch Rods yet?
dgriffy04 not yet but getting one very soon 👍
Ady Woodchucker I’ve ordered one 😊
dgriffy04 which model have you gone for?
Ady Woodchucker spinning 3-18g
dgriffy04 nice, let me know how you get on with it and some nice tarty pictures are always welcome.
Have you calculated its weight using the measurement or did you actually weigh it?
It was weighed and measured Baz.
