I like big trucks, but I also really like the brand-new Prius. Might finally get one now that they got it looking nice instead of like a brick.

Remember the story a couple of years ago when hundreds of petrol burning cars got stranded for days on I-95 in Virginia during a snow/ice storm and many ran out of fuel? But yeah, let's focus on a handful of Tesla owners that didn't think to top off their batteries in frigid weather and proclaim that EVs can't handle the cold despite the fact that other countries with lots of EVs like frigid Norway seem to have no problems..

An EV caught fire in Rosemont, IL next to O'Hare Airport today. It took firefighters 5 hours to fully extinguish the EV fire. 5 hours. For 1 car. 5 hours. They had to use a special weighted fire suppression blanket to help get it under control. All that effort for 1 car.

I live in Canada. We have -30 degrees Celsius throughout winter, own a Tesla model 3. Zero problems. These are either paid actors or people who don't know how to work a Tesla properly, basics. You navigate to the super charger, the tesla automatically pre conditions (warms up) the battery for fast charging. 🤦‍♂️ Hopefully just an honest mistake

Supercharging not only degrades battery faster, but the cost is not even on par with a Prius. Lvl2 is the way to go.

    • @kenbob1071

Exactly. Norway has the most EVs per capita of any country and Teslas are the most popular brand and I don't hear anyone complaining. These Chicago drivers are either clueless or it's a Fox News hit piece.

@@migmigjohnson9351 Supercharging has a negligible effect on battery degradation. That only applies to cars with poor (or no) thermal management. That's not a Tesla issue.

So chargers are not working. It's like a gas station running out of petrol. What's the big deal?

poor planning. you have weather forecasts, a battery guage and battery preconditioning. If you can't read a manual your f'd on anything you don't understand

Who would think batteries and cold weather wouldn't mix. What a surprise (sarcasm)!!! Not planes at ORD, but still a good video!!!

    • @ChicagoAirportSpotter
      @ChicagoAirportSpotter  5 місяців тому +1

We'll get back to the planes soon. It's a bit too cold to hold a camera at the moment...and the battery dies fast 🤣

The majority of cars in Norway are electric with Tesla being the best selling. I hear it gets cold in Norway and they don't have problems.

Norway, Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, all have Chicago type weather. They also have a much higher percentage of EV's, mostly Teslas. Funny how they are not having these problems. Maybe they don't run their batteries down prior to cold snaps. Just like you wouldn't run your gas tank down to near empty. Remember gas vehicles befoe things like block heaters? Starting the car every morning was a gambling experience. Maybe it would start, maybe it wouldnt. Preparation is the key.

You should have two things to have smooth EV ownership...a home charger and an IQ above room temperature. These people lack both.

How about designing the electric cars where they are just like a modern Freight Train. But a scaled down version. A small 2 cylinder gasoline vapor powered engine spinning a generator and supplying electric power to an electric motor that's connected to an automatic transmission and then to the rear wheels and the Fuel mileage would be Tremendous

Good job, those electric car will burn tires at over twice the speed increasing the carbon, good we need the plants to grow faster. They are also great in cold weather lol.

They can improve put a gasoline engine in them, problem solved. Alternatively: a diesel, a water or air fed engine, a hydrogen engine... definitely not a dirty electric...... where do you think that electricity comes from? "clean" diesel generators?

As a chicagoan ev owner dealing with this. I found a remedy. Go to a level 2 or 3 tesla charging station at around 3 or 4am if youre willing to wake up. Cheap charging rates, and no lines. And the reason is, everybody else is sleeping. Never let your battery go under 30%, and always precondition your battery before you go
