When I was young I told my mom how she, my dad, and I were at the Kirtland Temple at the dedication. We were standing out front, we were not allowed to go in. We stood with a large crowd out front.
My mom looked at me like I was crazy. She informed me that the dedication happened in the 1800s. She said we had never even been to Ohio.
I described a small grass hill that was on the left as you looked at the temple.
A couple years later (1988) we took a road trip and drove to Kirtland, Ohio. There was the small grass hill on the left side!
They’ve now flattened that grass hill (as per drone footage I saw in 2020).
I now believe my family were part of the throng of “angels” who people saw that day during the dedication.

I just discovered your videos I absolutely love them, I became a member of the church in Panama central America.
After watching your videos about the history of the church I have grown to be so thankful for all those people that sacrificed and endured so much, I sure love Emma Smith, I had no idea of all the trials her and the prophet Joseph endured. I am so thankful for them and everyone else who took part in the restoration so that we now can enjoy the gospel.
I would really like to hear the history of plural marriages and how this came about so that I can have a better undestanding and explain it to so many that don't believe in the church because of this. Muchas gracias. I now leave in california and I go to the sacramento temple. I came here to the US when I was 15, but became a member of the church when I was 14. In Panama

I served my mission in Kirtland back in the mid 1980's when the historical sites were first being renovated and dedicated. I am so impressed by this video. I thought I knew a lot about Kirtland but learned many new things. As you know Kirtland is in a valley. When I was there the Spirit was so strong in the immediate Kirtland area itself. We would notice when we went to neighboring Mentor, Willoughby or other close-by towns that we could discern that the abundance of the Spirit had left as soon as we left Kirtland township. The Spirit would come back immediately returning in Kirtland. I served in Kirtland for 5 months and that experience stayed with me for the whole five months serving in Kirtland.
I have not seen many of your videos so maybe you have more on Kirtland. As I stated I served in Kirtland in 1984. Shortly after the course on Kirtland had been lifted. We heard from members and non-members there about all the changes in Kirtland that were exploding. They had just received traffic lights and an Mc Donalds that they were thrilled to finally have.
I look forward to seeing more of your videos!

this is a video I will be watching several times. In my opinion, the Savior gave so many people visions of himself because the restored truths that were revealed through Joseph Smith were so revolutionary - as you said, they turned the Christian world upside down upon its head - that those who were so willing to believe the things they heard from Joseph and the missionaries were special to the Lord and He gave them these revelations to prove to them that it was all true and that they might also have the great privilege of phyiscally experiencing the Savior for themselves. Kirtland was truly an amazing era in Church history. Thank you so much for this video - and all the rest of the videos you put out. My testimony has been strengthened!

Only takes a little research, the information is out there and easy to find. In short, it wasn't "allowed" but commanded in revelation. It was also commanded of Smith on several individual marriages. With Helen Mar Kimball for example, who was his youngest bride at 14, he claimed an angel of the Lord appeared to him with a sword and threatened him with extinction if he did not marry her. On the other hand, if she does marry him, her and her entire family are guaranteed eternal salvation. This was fairly typical, and no, I am not making this up, and yes, otherwise intelligent and well educated people actually believe, or profess to believe this crap.

From 1828 "American Dictionary of the English Language
VI'SION, noun s as z. [Latin visio, from video, visus.]
    1. The act of seeing external objects; actual sight.
Faith here is turned into vision there.
    2. The faculty of seeing; sight. vision is far more perfect and acute in some animals than in man.
    3. Something imagined to be seen, though not real; a phantom; a specter.
    No dreams, but visions strange.
    4. In Scripture, a revelation from God; an appearance or exhibition of something supernaturally presented to the minds of the prophets, by which they were informed of future events. Such were the visions of Isaiah, of Amos, of Ezekiel, etc.
    webstersdictionary1828.com/Dictionary/vision

@@simpleislovely1924 Don't worry, I have dug quite deep: Dr David Ritner, Jeremy Runnels and the CES letter/website, Richard Packham, Fawn Brodie, numerous Mormon Story Interviews, the history of the Mark Hoffman forgeries, (so much for power of discernment) even the Church's own Gospel Topic Essays. Then there are the numerous abuse scandals that the church has covered up. I can go on and on, but trust me, having experienced first hand the lies of this church, I have dug quite deep. Depends on what one wants I guess. If you want faith, then yeah, pray, get that transcendent feeling, that all over fuzzy "burning in your breast," and keep telling yourself it was God talking to you. Forget the fact that what you experienced is universal. There are literally billions of other Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, et al who will attest with the same fervor and conviction as you that God told them their faith is true, and just keep on believing that it wasn't God talking to them, just Mormons. However if it is truth you want, then get off your knees and do a little old fashion reading and research as you would a secular figure or subject, exactly what your enlightened leaders like Oaks and Holland have told you not to do. If YOU are willing to hear and feel it, you will soon find out why you have been implored to not do exactly that.
