I’m so glad you all are ok. What a scary day. I was taught to debubble ONLY with a plastic utensil or a wooden one, because a metal knife may cause a slight scoring of the glass causing it to fail.
I was just thinking the same thing. A metal instrument can cause nicks and scratches, is what they say. I use a bamboo chopstick. Your carrots looked so beautiful!!
Yeah I've heard that to...
Yes I use a plastic piece that's how I was taught.
I was just going to say that
Carbon monoxide sinks, so if you have a carbon monoxide/smoke detector combo on your ceiling, the CO concentration will be VERY high once it sets off your ceiling detector. Best to install a battery back-up CO detector into a wall electrical outlet close to your floor, and definitely close to your gas stove.
Glad you’re ok‼️🌁❄️🎏🪅😻
I'm the wallflower of the Stiver family and enjoy watching'n reading everyone's comments needless to say when my notification popped up I thought Jen might be searching for the tip of a finger ... =I Only because Zack is known to be a bit clumsy, anywhooo! I'm happy to hear everything is okay. That was such a scary thing to happen to yall. Oh, and I just adore The Stivers & Family. =)
That's what I thought too. Kept watching for that to happen.
So glad you had the fire department, and gas company clear your house. I am happy to hear Zack went to the ER, and got clear after testing, and oxygen.
So true..I have a 20 yr old volunteer fire fighter..give a big shout out for your volunteers
Just ordered a CO detector for my kitchen for $10 for my kitchen from amazon. Thank you for reminding all of us about basic safety that we don't really think about. Love you guys!
Make sure you install the CO detector down lower , approx knee high! Many people place them high like a smoke detector but Carbon monoxide is a heavy gas where smoke rises the CO lingers low! By the time the higher units go off the poison is very high and you're likely unconscious if not gone!
Glad all is well. I can't believe you drive yourself, you could've passed out driving. My folks got overcome from a generator pumping their basement & they were told not to drive for at least 24 hrs!!
You're guardian angel was on your shoulder for sure!! 💕🙏💕
Sorry for the ER visit. Were you running the stove vent hood? Propane/Natural Gas if leaking gas do not create Carbon Monoxide they just leak gas. Combustion of those gases creates Carbon Monoxide which is why I asked about the hood vent operating? Also open a window or door in the kitchen to insure a flow of fresh air that will reduce Carbon Monoxide build up in small spaces - and your kitchen is a small space
I’m in Australia, our gas stoves have an automatic shut-off if the flame 🔥 goes out so this can’t happen. So glad everyone is alright 💕
Wow…. Wish the American manufacturers would do the same! However that would mean that they would charge us twice the price for the stove 😂
So thankful you all are ok. Such a reminder how fleeting life can be. My husband is moving our CO2 detector into the kitchen after showing him this video. It’s currently around the corner in another room. Your sharing has all ready helped. Thank you.
Hi 👋 Mel , how are you doing?
You'll love the fermented carrots the most of all ferments. I add onion powder & dill. So glad you're ok Zach!
I love ferment aged carrots..add dill and garlic..red pepper flakes
Thankful everyone is safe. So enjoy your posts.
I have had my gas stove leak gas because I was cleaning and bumped the burner control. Didn't know, all of a sudden I'm smelling gas. Hope you are all ok. Not funny when it happens, now looking back it is funny, lesson learned. Thankful you all are ok.
Carrot fermented are so delicious. You'll be happy with the outcome.
Glad to hear you both are ok.
Hi 👋 Marje, how are you doing?
Try adding a few garlic cloves to the fermented carrots. They are awesome!!!
Blessings for your health scare. Thankful that all of you are ok.
So glad you are OK and those carrots are so vibrant in color in the jars!
As a nurse I have long observed the shape of Zach's fingernails, be on the watch for COPD and other lung issues. I think that is why it affected you so harshly. Just a guess but I have noted the club shape of his fingernails. Not said in a mean way but hopefully in a helpful way. This gave me the chance to bring it up.
@@linannebice6280 yep that’s why my husband’s nails/ fingertips look deformed 🤦🏻♀️
I am an RN also and I understand what Brenda is referring to and it does look like clubbing .... I tend to agree though.... my first thought is nail chewing ...
@@klcpca I hope so.
I've also noticed his nails but for the reason of having the same shape, both me and my oldest son. Of which, I've mentioned before that him and Zach could pass for brothers!
I'm not glad to hear what it could be a sign of BUT I am glad to have the knowledge in case and for check ups. Thank you for sharing it. Knowledge is power if you have it!
God bless.
I wanted to say something many months ago. Clubbing is possible heart issues. I hope we are wrong.
I don't know if this is true, but, I've learned not to use any metal utensils to debubble your canning items. There is a risk of the metal getting too hot and breaking or cracking the jar. I don't like the "Ball" debubbler it seems to crush the food and sometimes difficult to get in between the food, so I use a wooden chop stick.
Glad UR okay! I’m so impressed with all your canning works!
I love how determined y'all are to still finish the canning!
So glad y’all are ok!!! I refuse to have anything that requires gas, in my house! I’ve seen too many horror stories about gas stoves or gas water heaters, etc., blowing up! One was a little too close for comfort! A month after I moved out of a mobile home I was renting, the gas water heater blew up. Luckily, the people living there, got out in time!
I am so thankful that Zach is ok. I'm glad that you went to the ER. Every one who has gas in their home and also propane, a fireplace, space heaters that use kerosene or propane and wood burning stoves should have carbon monoxide detectors. I remember when a lady I worked with and her husband went to bed and they were found a few days later. They had passed away from carbon monoxide monoxide poisoning. It's a silent killer. Once again I'm so thankful that you are all ok. God bless you all.
Wow! So so glad you all are ok! The carrots are beautiful. Every time you open a jar, you will think about today...lol! I just canned 25 lbs and 90% of them were "cross-legged" and split. I didn't think I would ever get them cleaned.
I am from Alabama.
When I was young we had a gas heater that had a leak. We woke up Christmas morning nauseous and headaches. We opened our presents and got ready. My parents never thought twice about a leak. Later when we were with family this idea was mentioned. At that time the men of the family met the gas company and fixed the leak. It was very scary to find out we could have not woken up that morning. Thankful you caught the leak and everything is good now. Keep up the great work. I know it is hard work and very tiring but rewarding also. You are teaching the next generation how to survive.
That is so scary, my husband had a CO scare recently with a propane heater he was using on a job. He got really sick and his levels were elevated as well. Unfortunately our local hospital didn’t feel he was a priority and kept him waiting for hours before they gave him oxygen and he was ill for days after the event due to that. I am really glad you are ok and we’re able to share this story to keep others aware. Thanks for doing what you do!
Thank God Zach is ok. Appreciate the honesty and encouragement for us all to beware. Congrats on the beautiful canned carrots❤
Some people (zack) will do anything to get out of canning carrots lol. I’m glad you are ok. I did the carrots last month from azure.
Hi 👋 Debbie, how are you doing?
I'm so glad you are all okay. On the canning side, I have been wanting to can carrots for a while now but have an issue with my dominant hand. Hopefully, I can get my hubby to pitch in! It's nice to see couples working together. Blessings to you all.
Carbon Monoxide can only build up if there is burning of fuel with poor exhaust. If a burner flame goes out carbon monoxide should not be able to be produced you would only have a natural gas build up which if there were other burners operating an explosion could result. If you were stricken with carbon monoxide it sounds like with all your burners operating there wasn't sufficient room exhaust to evacuate any burnt fumes because a burner without a flame will only produce gas buildup not carbon monoxide.
100% agree!!!!!
Also, you should have a CO2 alarm in the bedrooms. And check your smoke detector batteries every time you change your clocks for DST.
Aaahhhhh, you're killing me with the butter knife on the jars.
glad all is well. perhaps a wooden or plastic utensil would be better to de-bubble with.
Oh My Gosh glad your all okay but glad your good Zach. That sure is a lot of carrots but I love em!
I have cooked on a gas stove forever and never thought about it. I have had burners turned on but not lighted by accident and smelled the gas so I can understand how this can happen. Ordered a CO2 alarm today. I appreciate you all sharing and glad you are OK! God Bless.
Thank goodness you're ok ! That alarm is priceless.
I bought one of those giant bags and pickled a bunch as well as dehydrate for soups. I cut thin ribbons for asian style and sticks for a corriander pickled carrot. I didn't have a pressure canner at that time but I will definitely be doing that next time. Glad yall are safe now.
What a scary day. We've always been lucky enough to smell gas, and we have noticed times when the smell was strong and noticed the flames being out. We do have carbon monoxide detectors, thank goodness. I am happy everyone is okay and no one was hurt for the long term. I love how you switched up what you were doing with the carrots, well...let's ferment them instead Great idea Thank you for sharing.🥕🥕🥕🥕
When you go in for n9n-descript breathing issues, a chest and lung exray is pretty standard. If you go in with breathing problems with any one of what is on a whole list of pre-existing breathing and lung problems, they take an exray. What they are looking for first is a fluid build up, second any inflammation or abnormal lung shape , third any spots or places of higher density.
Induction stove is THE "Way -To-Go" - especially if you are on-grid. BUT, keep that gas stove for a future summer/emergency kitchen. You may need new "magnetic cookware" for the induction stove, (Who doesn't love new cookware?!?)
Hey glad you're doing better all of you that nothing was seriously wrong always good to have one of those detectors in the house cuz you just never know otherwise you guys are really goofy in the kitchen love watching you both do your canning and cooking and everything that you do keep up the excellent work looking forward to your next video
God is good! Thankful that everyone is OK after such a scary experience. We lost a home due to a faulty valve on our heating unit. The valve didnt shut and the closet filled with fumes. When the ignition sparked to start heat again , boom! We werent at home. My husband was at work and I had taken my toddler to grocery store to pick up just one item! We rebuilt all electric but didnt like it. Our home we are living in now is back to gas cook stove and gas furnace. My husband and I also canned a 50 pound bag of carrots this winter. Whew!! But oh, the reward! Beautiful and oh so sweet! Not mushy at all. Used the same method that yall did. Love your channel! God bless and continue to watch over you.
So glad you only had a scary experiment and not a tragedy at your homestead. I'm glad you shared your experience because it may save someone else's life. It makes people aware and opens the door for conversations about this kind of danger.
Thank you Lord that Zack, Jen and the children are OK. I enjoy watching you guys and the children take care of the animals and plant the garden. I will be here to watch you continue your journey. God Bless.
A leaky refrigerator poisoned my dad and he had repeat symptoms for yeats afterward. (He didn't go to the doctor.) You were smart to go in.
Hi 👋 dear, how are you doing?
Wow! What a day! God is with us always! So glad you shared your story for all of the ones with a gas stove to be aware of the "what ifs". The carrots look great! They will be so pretty in your pantry.
Love watching and learning from your videos. I'm so glad you not only have a co detector but a monitored co detector. I work for ADT & they save so many lives! So glad you are ok.
Thank God you guys have a detector! Beyond glad that everyone us ok!!!
So glad all turned out well. So scary . So proud of all your canning always be safe. Your such wonderful friends 💕 in my book love all the learning of everything you do. Sending love and prayers 💞🙏. Catch you on the next visit.
Glad to hear everyone is good.
Happy you are ok! I did that once the water in my waterbath pot splashed over and our my burner out. Scared me, now I make sure I keep checking my burners.
Wow...what a day in the kitchen. I am so glad Zach is ok and the family. I hardly ever comment but yall are our favorite people on UA-cam. We had an anniversary on March 16th and hoped to come stay with yall but it didnt work out. Our kids are wanting to send us so we are throwing around dates. I know we will see yall soon. We can hardly wait to meet yall. Thanks for always keeping your videos real. We have so much to learn but we are working at it and watching everyone else. Trying to get a greenhouse up now. When I seen all those carrots I thought, My gosh, I couldnt get my carrots to grow over the Winter. My Winter gardening sucked. Cant wait to meet yall. We will book soon. :)
So glad you all are ok!!! How scary!!! My husband and I love your videos!!! You are one of my favorite channels!!
You two seem like a great couple! Glad you are ok and I love the faucet on the back of your stove.
I'm glad you're okay. I'm glad you're able to finish, still strong. Thanks for the reminder, warning ⚠️. I needed that too.
Thanks for sharing!!!
This might be the 1st time I've ever commented on your channel. You guys are nuts. I'm glad Zach is OK
I’m glad you are okay! Whew!
Thank God you guys are all ok. God Bless you and your family
I am now getting a co2 detector for the kitchen. I have some in the house but not close enough to the kitchen.
You may want to try adding a cup of apple juice to some quart jars of carrots. Gives a really nice flavour that goes well with goose, duck, and pork.
Thanks for sharing the good advice and the difficult experience. Glad you're okay, now.
I'm so happy you put this out there to remind folks to be careful! Hope you're feeling fine now.
Fermented carrots are very good, I don't know if you guys like kimchi, but you can make it out of more than cabbage! Carrots, turnips, radishes, carrots, broccoli, etc.
So thankful you are all okay. Yesterday my mom got our natural gas fireplace fixed and when we switched it off the pilot is supposed to stay on. But there was a large flame. I turned the pilot off. Two reminders in less than 24 hours to get a carbon monoxide alarm , is not a coincidence 🙌🏻 🤔 Going to buy one tomorrow.
Makes me love my old electric stove even more. The carrots look great, I’ve been canning carrots as well. Glad everyone is ok.
Oh man that could have been so much worse. So glad you went to the ER and got checked out. sheesh! Happy you are doing okay. I too have a gas stove and I have one burner that will go out when I have a certain window in my kitchen open, go figure. I guess it creates just the perfect draft of air to blow it out...aggravating. So I just don't open that window anymore! Hope you are all safe. Your canned carrots look amazing by the way!!
so glad to see you went to e.r. zach. did the right thing. glad to see the entire family is wel. god bless.
I am so grateful you have the detector Zach, and are okay. Gas stoves are wonderful, so glad you had them out to inspect. The carrots look fresh and beautiful, such a great way to preserve them.
I’m so glad you’re ok! I love my gas stove but I’ve caught it partially turned on a couple of times due to activity in the kitchen and well I’m just getting old a little more forgetful… I’m moving to electric in the house when we’re done remodeling…however because I cannot see me putting a canner on the glass top without some major problems, I’m setting up a wood fired stove outside for my canning adventures🙌
Hi 👋 dear, how are you doing?
God Bless you Zach! Thank God you're doing well now. What a scare. Bless the family & critters.
SOOOOOOO GLAD you all are OK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jen is wright, never question if you should go to the ER! If it comes to you like that....you need to GO!!!!! Always better safe than SORRY!!!! That stuff is a SILENT KILLER!! A person just goes to sleep. Happy all is well at your house now. Your right, you guys have had a heck of a WEEK!!!!
Well, as Always many many BLESSINGS to you & yours! Till next time! :)
If you’re questioning going…?? GO! Exactly!!
Wow, what a wake up call. Very glad you are ok. Thanks for the video
I ferment carrots with a few bay leaves and they are amazing. You can add a few to one of your quarts if you want to give it a try. Thank you for your wonderful videos. I am a grandma in Idaho.
Fermented carrots are awesome! I love them! Great video and so glad Zach is ok!
Carrots are a prime candidate for dehydrating in standard dehydrators--don't need freeze-dryer. They are blanched 2-3 minutes then shocked in ice water then dehydrated. When rehydrated, they're like fresh carrots. Saves jars, saves space and no overcooked carrots. They can be dried sliced or diced.
This is smart...looking at it by the year is so smart. This year I want to put a couple years of our favorites back.
The love between you too and the smiles to each other are a blessing to see. God Bless you both. And Happy Canning .
First off, glad you are fine! I used to make a "soup base" when everything was ripe in the summer. I would mix potatoes, carrots, celery, onion and seasoning and then cover them with tomato juice. Any mix of vegetables would work. You need to process them using the pressure canner, and the time/pounds pressure is determined by whichever vegetable requires the longest/highest amount. It's delicious and easy and a huge time saver! Maybe you might want to try a batch in the summer when the garden is in full swing!
So very thankful that it was no worse Zac and Jen. God bless.
So glad you are ok...Thank You for sharing this video...Much Love and Be Well💛💛
OH GOODNESS !!! so glad it all turned out ok-in the olden days they used to have Canaries in bird cages down in the mines so they would be alerted to a Gas leak & get out. Thank goodness we have better alarm systems now. Carrots look great guys. Cheers Denise- Australia
Praise God you all are ok. Thank you for sharing your canning adventure. Have a great weekend. 💜
Glad your ok i have co2 monitor but it 3 ft off of ground cause its heavier then air and will alert you sooner then on ceilings
I'm so glad you are all safe and okay. God Bless
Thank goodness you guys have that alarm.Im so glad you all are ok.God is so good!!
The whole stove top going out used to happen to us back when we would do 15 doz. eggs for Easter ... the pan would always sweat, the sweat would drip and that in turn would put out the burner but not the gas.
Thank you for sharing. Glad you all are safe. Take care.
Thankful you are all ok, especially you Zach. Carrots look awesome.
Great job canning up all your produce. But Jenn take it from me use a chop stick or plastic debubbler . Never anything metal in your jars .
I had no idea that was something to watch for with a gas stove! Thank you for including that! Fermented carrots are one of my favs! I hope you love it too :)
I have a gas stove too but I do my canning outside on a propane cooktop for just this reason. Not ideal to carry the prepped jars outside but I feel safer this way.
Glad you are okay Zach! And kudos to Jenn for staying so calm. Love you both!
Hay guys, so to here then! We shredded the carrots then dehydrated then, next then vacuumed the jar. This used it great. Bless you all!
Very thankful you are all okay!
God is so good!!
I ferment lots of things too..I love carrots fermented with garlic cloves and fresh dill...I ferment them for 5 to 6 days...you will love them
Glad you guys are ok and thanks for following through with the canning process because sometimes you simply gotta do what you gotta do even if after an event like this you followed through and I know thats hard sometimes after a stressful day so good job folks and praise the good lord everyone is ok!
Thank you for sharing your experience. Glad all turned out well.
You are the nicest people. I just found you tonight and I have really enjoyed your videos.
