Our 190E FINALLY Hits The Track - Surprises Everyone!︱Golden Era Project Ep.8

- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- ►Nearly 12 months after picking up the donor 190E, the Golden Era Project has finally made it to the FCP Euro Proving Grounds at Lime Rock Park. A catastrophe was avoided on the dyno thanks to some quick reactions, and the junkyard engine withstood the abuse to deliver healthy horsepower. Now with the car fully assembled, it's time to give the 190E 2.0-16 its first thorough shake-down.
Putting the car through its paces will illuminate any shortcomings and give Nate a list of components that need further work following the day on the track. The shakedown is a day dedicated to dialing in the car. But it's also a time to reflect on what was accomplished. It's been a long journey, but everything done to the car has led the FCP Euro team to this moment. Welcome to the season (series?) finale of the Golden Era Project.

From the bottom of my Mercedes Enthusiast Heart... just want to say I Appreciate all of the effort from the whole Team on this build, to see it come to life while watching it all unfold was as exciting as any Mercedes based content/build I have EVER seen. Wish I could've been there in person just to help! Maybe someday on another build!
BIG Cheers and Congratulations! What a Ripper!
We appreciate your support throughout the series ANDERZEN! Stay tuned for the next one 🙂The 190E will live on too!
one of my favorite project builds i’ve ever watched
We appreciate the kind words Jodye!
I say, this is THE BEST project FCP Euro has ever taken up.. Perhaps, ever!!! Although people, places, things, keep reminding us to, "Always move forward," You can't always. That is, without seeking your past, "Mistakes and Triumphs. "
As always appreciate you following along for the entire build KISS KISS! We are cetainly proud of this one.
@@fcpeuro I wholeheartedly appreciate the kind words, FCP Euro. I always love, and enjoy your videos. They are a blend of enthusiasm and downright useful information. Keep it Up!!! 👌
FInally getting around to watching this entire series. This video is incredibly inspirational for my own personal build projects, and I hope it affects others the same way. Thank you for showing us what is possible when taking a street car and turning it into a track car.
This whole build has really given me an urge to build a wild 190e dtm tribute
Do it Luke!!!
Always
Well done, gents. Very well done. Enjoy the fruits of this labor- I know I will from the other side of the screen! BYW- I send EVERY Euro car owner your way.
Can't thank you enough for the support Darryl!
I grew up with speed channel playing touring car stuff and dtm, jgtc, all that. The 190e 16v has always been a dream for me, I was a bit too young to have had one when it was out. This project hits me right in the heart.
Looking great guys. I can't wait to see it on the track.
Going to be an epic year of track shenanigans with it!
Epic series, watched all of the videos and waited impatiently for every new one. You should do the same with another European car, maybe E30.
We arent against throwing a B48 into an E30 for something to compete with this thing 🙂
As I've been looking more into these 190e they're definitely starting to grow on me and excited to get the project going. Not so extensive and meticulous but to get another on the road. As you don't see these anywhere near as much as the e30
The bois did it again 🎥❤️🤌
yesssssirr 🙂
Please do more episodes on the 190, really enjoyed them.
The intro sequence on this video couldn't go any harder.
What a series, and what a project. This really is the "Ultimate Evolution" of the 190E.
You have all the time in the world 🌎 to build your car Parts right there . Your luck to. Have thing there that my opinion buddy 😅
Yes! Finally the baby Benz got some track time 👍
That was my 2nd car back in the 90ies - yet only with the 1.8 engine though. Still a nice ride.
Putting too much engine into a small car is a great recipe for fun. Love it.
Such an awesome build. Hopefully you get the oil smoke sorted. You also have to think what our tire and brake technology is today versus what they would have had in era.
We think we're making progress on the smoke situation, should be all clear in time for this years track time.
This build turned out completely epic, I wish there was more aftermarket support for these cars, a project like this is on my bucket list for sure
Thank you for the kind words Jordan, get to that bucket list!
My all time favorite Benz.
What's up with all the exhaust smoke? Do you still have oil going through the turbo?
@14:40
I'm guessing that changing the orientation of the engine has lead to pooling or something that's affecting the crankcase ventilation. The dyno video... something was plugged on purpose IIRC it was part of the breather system. I'd look there first.
Yeah, we have a couple issues compounding. first, this engine has some crankcase breather limitations combined with a vacuum pump which is now very underworked (nothing vacuum operated except the turbo at this point). This meant it worked overtime, putting a lot of excess air into the engine. In addition, like many new cars, this engine is fitted with an electronically controlled variable oil pump to cut down on emissions and allow you to run 0-20w oils. We have now been able to crack the code and control it with the Motec, but when this was filmed, we had 70 psi oil pressure at idle! The combination of these things created enough blow-by (mainly in the turbo) that loaded up the exhaust when idling. Then, when you get on it, it burns the oil residue out. We are working through the solution and will keep everyone in the loop on what worked and what didn't.
@@natevincent You guys did such a great job. I can't count the number of incredibly long days I've spent at the Dyno. The stress of that last step. Ooff, I felt it. Congratulations to the team and kudos for not hiding the bumps that every single project encounters but most are too proud to hide.
Holy smokes is right! Looked like you’re fogging for mosquitoes out there…at one point it looked like the car might have been on fire with all the smoke coming into the cockpit…
Really enjoyed putting the time lapse on .25 speed and really watching the scenes. Great work
Love that you took the time to do that Tailspin , we thought about posting a slowed down version just raw like that for people to enjoy seperatly.
Great job gang!
I would love FCP to use my 190e to develop a road-going version of this car. The FCP 190e Evo III package? Thoughts?
+1
@@mr_sparkly_face4087 hmmmm plug n play all in 1 kit!? We do have something in the works
@FCP Euro, and this is why I’ll always buy from all you madlads 😂
Get the car closer to the ground.
Get some 9x18" Compomotive TH wheels with sticky rubber on them.
Other than that, perfect :)
Just wait. We have a very special set of fully custom Rotiforms that have a real classic feel waiting to be mounted up. Unfortunately, to get closer to the ground we need to tub the front inner fenders like they did on the Grp A cars back in the day.
@@natevincent awesome, thanks for the reply
Do you guys know that the car was racing in DTM wasn't made by AMG
It was made by cosworth Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 evo cosworth (the full name)
Picked up an order from fcp in Milford yesterday and got the chance to see/sit in this BEAST! It was actual in the lobby of the pick up center. So as I’m checking the car out, an employee there says “hey man, I know you’re pretty tall but feel free to take a seat in her”! I’m 6’6 so I fold myself up to take a seat in that sparco bucket and just wow! Was it an experience and all I did was sit in it. FCPEURO FTW!
Absolutely LOVE this The Gear Head - glad you had the opportunity to pick up some parts and see it in person!
This car is superior to its D: class automotive counterpart only in engine. The 190e of the D: class automotive is truly amazing
Only the 190e 2.5 16 evo never had a turbo...
(damn, does that thing smoke.)
are you going to put together a parts list of things that you used like the steering rack, spindles, brakes etc for people wanting to do a similar build?
LETS GOOOOOOOO
Amazing work guys! This is what 190E dreams are made of.
Thanks Gents! You'll have to take it for a rip at a GRIDLIFE event this year if we cross paths! Appreciate the kind words
Outstanding work guys…and absolutely phenomenal car!
We appreciate it Dirt Bike Sessions - we are pretty stoke on it ourselves 😁
Bring to the Nurburgring 🔥🔥🔥🔥
We would love to!
I have one niche nitpick, rise slightly the rear and drop the front also slightly an inch max on both sides. One question, I didn’t see if you had installed the front domes crossbar/stabilizer( I don’t know the exact English term for the bar that goes from one suspension dome to another), have you? Otherwise BEAUTIFUL piece of steel.
The 190e Evos are one of those cars we never got here in the states what a mega looking sedan. Good job on the recreation!
We need a swap kit for the w126! m113k preferably. There's more and more people on forums getting it done and it seems to only really need the w210 steering rack, tie rods for correct travel (a guys on the forum used z32 ones) and engine mounts. No cutting necessary.
...do have to wait another 12months for the next AWESOME Race Car Build Shakedown at LimeRock Motorsports parkway? #e46DinanTouringX->
I'm about to get an 89 190e with the 2.3 engine (sportline edition). I have to watch all the videos of this machine for inspiration. Very good job!
Right on!
Super! Precise driving on a race track without the ABS system and especialy with no power-steering - I wish I tasted that but our EVOII track Replicas are equipped with these modern'isch gimmicks;-). I will be trying to get 350bhp with ecu master (on M111 2.3 engine), very nice movie - dragging in, hipnotising :-)
Great series so far. Saw this car at Grid Life Lime Rock last year and it looks even better in person. Question, after this project, will you have a 190E “kit” for those that want to turn theirs into a street/Track car?
We actually are working on a bit of a "kit" for what we used on the project - for people to pick through atleast. Be sure to come back and see it in action this year at Circuit Legends!
Huge job ❤ what is the engine on it now ?
I did expect the legendary AMG Cosworth 2.5 16v for more authentic Golden Era resurection
Still looks a bit rough on the track, but it`s there!
Proper shakedown mode Alex!
This car is so cool!!!! The look, the sounds, the obvious fun... 👍👍
Simply stunning.
I only spotted 1 fault in the entire build, you put the steering wheel back on the wrong side.
Now please do the car justice by bringing to the Nürburgring!
Also I would love to see the previous owners reaction to seeing his old car again.
Mercedes of our childhoods, beautiful proportioned, not too heavy, manual transmission. Then you grow up and all they can offer you is 2 ton tiptronics and Haldex fwd trash.
Timing the window wiper to stop right in the middle of the window…? I have an 89 201, and I can’t imagine the stock resting position obstructs enough/less than the straight up position. Is it a right side up indicator?
Ah so it’s a crankcase venting issue causing the smoke, ok makes sense. The big take away for me is that I can pickup a C300 M274 engine from a junkyard, bolt a 6 speed onto it and throw it into something small and RWD and have some fun with it. Obviously not that simple lol but it’s a start and yes I know it’s not the same engine but the M274 and M133 are related 🤔
Richie Rich - we love how you boiled it down to the aformentioned formula for some frankensteined fun. We hope this build inspires some people to take it on!
@@fcpeuro exactly yup
No wonder i still keep my 190e 2.6, running for forever
awesome.....geeeez u r having waaaay fun.......... dyno story? rotis look perfect...hey nate...Joel
Was it my imagination or was Ed Bolian narrating some of this video? Anyway great work guys, just needs a little more finesse work and it’s done!
Great build series, and awesome car, keen to know why it's smoking so much though?
I want this car. :)
Come see it and come for a ride along at various GRIDLFE events this year!
why was it burning oil?
Love it! Congratulations 👏
Thanks rbazola - glad you dig it in the end!
this car needs itb noises.
Amazing work ! Greetings from France, BRAVO !!
Why is it smoking so much? Is that a sign of burning oil? Is that normal? No "dogleg" first?
Lha yahudi isrsel mikir pamer koyok opo wong bangun karo cino juga ngepeek America raono gunane
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one with terrible helmet hair, lol. Awesome job guys, this was a fun project to follow!
There was no winning the battle against Nate's hair that day 😂
Common guys… that wasn’t helmet hair. That was my interpretation of Robert Smith’s hair circa 1992! Driving the car was Just Like Heaven too;)
What's up with all the oil smoke at acceleration? Or is that tire smoke? Looks blueish though
Icon of the 80s! ;-)
THIS IS SOME HEAT!!! 🔥🔥🔥
🙌Thanks Zach!
Wow by far the best project I've ever seen anyone or any youtube channel do. What a machine! Now I gotta go to my basement and find my 190e dtm model 😂!
Will any of the custom parts used for the project be available sale?
AWESOME!! Congrats on the perfect job
Great series, folks!!! This car is quite beautifully done. The amount of thought, ingenuity and love for this idea is quite amazing. You guys have a great tribute to such a great era in motorsports. DTM was quite an impressive series. And, the W201 was a great platform to use. The Cosworth massaged engine was wonderfully executed by Mercedes.
I once knew someone who had brought over his 2.3-16 from the Netherlands (diplomatic/military car, I kid you not) and I rode in it a few times. It was very quick and a lot of fun just to be a passenger. It was eventually sold with over 250k miles on it but I never bought it as he drove it very hard.
All the best and look forward to your next project. A 500SEC rally car? A Porsche of some sort?
This was an awesome project. Thanks for this series...and doing a T-shirt for it!
Our pleasure Randy - we hope people dig the shirts!
Phenomenal series. Really impressed, love everything about the car
Thanks for tagging along for the journey Adam! We look forward to bringing many smiles to faces this year out at various GRIDLIFE events - we cant wait.
This is perfection👌🔥. This is my dream build. Iv been looking for a 190e forever, can never find the right one.
Sweet car but we gotta fix the smoking issue.Cant wait
The car should be called "Smokey" 😅 in practical terms, it's more a drift car rather than an track oriented car, so the only DTM feel to it is the visual it has.
Holy smokes that's for sure 😅
Smokes like a sovijet car 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
CT represent!
can t suport golden voma wheels
Burning oil like the spilling oil, Exxon Valdez... another 80's event. 😆🤣
We tried to encapsulate the entire Era Apple Jack..
Too bad car manufacturers don't make fun cars like these. Thank you for building and sharing! this car!!
Thank you for watching!
Such a cool build. But why is it smoking so much?
New edit without the music please!
Amazing build, this is one of my top favorite cars of this era. In touring car form, you can only imagine how good these drivers had to be to drive these on the limit lap after lap with little to no driver aids and knowing that your next corner could be your last if you get it wrong and as we can see with this project car, it takes very little to get this car out of shape. The size and proportions of the 190E is just perfect for a touring car racer
sick my 2th favor benz all time
Intro Narrated by Ed Bolian? Lol
Amazing car and loved the timelaps
Balapan jelas menang kalah. Tinju menang kalah sepak bola menang kalah.
Is that Ed Bolian doing the voiceover?
I have a similar car but W202
Сизый дым из глушителя-так задумано?))
Why is the car blowing so much oil out
You have built every 190's dream build. Well done....
Thank you for watching us do it, Matt!
Care to share what the build cost you?
the emotions captured in this video, i could relate with my race car project once I saw it hit the track and drive it for the first time! feels so freaking amazing
Woooooooo!
What kind of motor it’s running
Ok, now I wanna get back in the garage with my w209. 😊
You should!
The smoke is not from tyres
You need to take it racing
Brake w your left.
I’m so excited to see you guys driving this. It was great seeing it at Lime Rock last year. Hope to see you guys at Gridlife with it! Much love guys.
Thank you for hanging out, we hope to see you again this year!
Why even have turbo in a car tribute to DTM 1990's?
And the car have a LSD? But looks like innerwheelspin?
Man i just sold my 190e so i could buy a mr2. This is really making me miss it.
There is always time to get another one, Zach!
@FCP Euro that is true. Maybe once i get my own shop with a bit more room to work with. Having 3 e30s an e46 m3 and the mr2 takes up all my space for now 😅
Return of a legend
Awesome build! I enjoyed every video .. I like that liquid moly beanie do you guys sell that ? Thanks
We will have it listed on the site soon Andrew! Thanks for watching the whole series
