Could you tell the difference?
Javier Mercedes Great videos. I’ve subscribed and have been using your help to make my workout videos. Very helpful
Yes, very slight after youtube compression but noticeable. I appreciate your videos man, solid work.
Honestly no. Now am sad.
edit: in the first video that is, the coffee was day and night
Not really due to UA-cam but yes I can clearly spot the difference on my system .Assigning set to frame size to a shirt cut is ❤️💪thank you .
Yes, and now I know new thing about PP .. thank you!
Didn't realize it was rasterizing the footage, thanks for making this. Plus, when exporting and .edl or .xml to other NLEs, set to frame size applies those transformations as effects so the scaling transfers to the new application.
You've minimized the mundane yak yak that so many others do in their videos. Instead, you go direct to the point. How refreshing! Excellent tutorial. Signed, new subscriber.
This blew my mind. We were almost exclusively using Scale to Fram Size 😭😭
Blew my mind too after testing it on different types of footage. Thanks Method Boyz!
Super helpful! After years of using PP, I suddenly questioned the difference. Great examples to help understand the difference
YESSSSSSSSSS! Dude, my Premiere Pro skills have changed so much since bumping into your channel. I was working with someone the other day and I almost felt like I was showing off by how much more efficient I was than the other guy. YOU played a big role in that. Thankful that you have taken the leap to start a UA-cam channel. I’m a better editor because of you.
Thank you!
Thank you for another great video. You seem to be the only person able to explain it so well. Keep these tutorials coming please!
Great video, Javier! Thanks for this!
Cool!! Honestly I used to just pick whichever one I felt like -- great video!!
Finally a good tutorial with examples. I watched a tutorial about this like 2 years ago and what I remembered was to always use set to frame size. After time I totally forgot the actual difference between them))) BTW Nice tip about shortcut from After Effects. You are probably the first one who talks about importing and having the same shortcut in both apps. Can you please share or make a video of the same shortcut which you use in both apps? Thank you!
This guy should have more subscribers and views!! Thanks man for your tutorials, tips, and tricks! Don't stop creating good content!
Super cool video. Thanks for the clear explanation. I've been using set to because someone told me years ago, but I never knew why really. Just a helpful thought for future videos: there seemed to be a lot of plosive pops in the audio. maybe a windscreen or pulling the mic out a bit would help smooth it out a ton I think.
Subscribed! Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for explaining this! Now that we know "set to frame size" is superior, when would using "scale to frame size" be useful ?
Up
I use it when I have to make some filler videos in a little while. I hit scale to framesize then give every picture a motion from 100 to 110 scale and done. You have a stupid filler video of some pics for a tv show or something. You can use this method as long as your images have same ratio.
Great video. Thank you. I love your way of explaining things. So technical, and at the same time so easy to understand.
ah man, thank so much for the kind words Lemi!
Yooo never using scale to size again 😂
Gonna set and nest from now on. Solid video Javier!!
I used it a lot until doing some tests, thanks for stopping by Dan!
I can't tell you how much I enjoy your videos. I've learned a TON in the last two days. Your content is greatly appreciated.
Actually I guess I just DID tell you how much I enjoy your videos.
Thanks! Always wondered about this...
I love the way you edit your videos. It's evident that you take pride in what you do! Thanks heaps for these very helpful informative videos!
Thanks Zac
Great video! Thanks for your help!
*Javier* I cant wait to see when you blow up ! your content is always spicy and helps me learn a lot! Thank you so much
really good work. I must appreciate your knowledge!
Great explanation Javier!!Thanks a ton!!
Super video! Thanks!
AMAZING tutorial man! You do such an amazing job explaining every one of your videos and give great examples along the way. Consider me subscribed! Taking what I learned here to help complete my youtube intro!
This was such a simple but useful tip. TYSM!
Love your tutorials. No BS. Strictly to the topic. Like👍
Man, your video about PR is the most wonderful thing on UA-cam
Thanks Andy!
This was EXACTLY the information I was searching for!! Great video and thank you so much for answering all of my questions. Are there different options to fill the frame based on the width or height of the content? I saw those options in the after-effects clip and not sure if they are also available on Premier? So that a vertical clip would not have the bars on the side and it would automatically figure out the correct scaling
Very helpful, thank you
As always, awesome explanation.
Very helpful Thank you 😍 you are an excellent guide
Great explanation. Tks!
Great. Answered a question I was debating for a while now!
Hey brother, I LOVE your vids! Your comp style often reminds me of Alton Brown's Good Eats! Very informative and VERY entertaining! Subscribed, nice job!
VERY HELPFUL! However... what happens if I edit 4k footage but just wanna render to 1080? Is it better to make a 4k timeline and set the export settings to 1080 when I go to render or is it better to 'set to frame size' the 4K footage in a 1080 timeline since I know that's what I'm exporting at? Will they look the same? Also will they edit/playback smoother in the 1080 timeline versus the 4K timeline?
Thank for solving my confusion about that.
After following Peter McC...you know who, i am following you since you give proper explanations like Peter did Two Years ago. Now he is over the Hill, swimming around in his Fame...
Merry Christmas from Denmark 😏
This helped a lot, thank you.
Last 3 years I used scale to frame size. FML.
Exacly what I needed to know, thanks

Wow, thank you sir for this ♥♥♥
Nice one mate.
OHHH BEST VIDEO *SUBSCRIBED!*
Very clear. Thank you! I am editing with Premiere Using proxies. I made all the proxies for the project and imported the footage and checked to see that the path to the proxies was correct. THEN I found the new PREMIERE had moved the scale and set to frame. Set to frame was grayed out-only Scale to frame size could be chosen. Whaaaa😟? What am I doing wrong?
That's... you're awesome, my man!
Thanks for this. I was using scale to frame size for so long 🥺😓
Sadly, it took me too long to learn this. Thanks for putting it out there.
Another great video Javier!💪 Answering a question I didn't know I needed answering. 😳✌️
Thank you Autumn!
Thanks for making this video!
keep coming back to u!!!!
Thank you this does help, I was curious what is the difference
Thanks for Tutorial...In my case, the outer black portion is also squeezed.......how should correct/increase the black portion as it is not allowing to fit the entire image on the screen. Pls advice. Thanks in advance.
Thanks a lot! A small great tutorial 😀
when you are are scaling up 1080 HD how should I scale up to make video larger? Like if I need to crop out an accidental mic stand or simply want to zoom in on something? I would love to see a video on crop and fit! This was awesome!
i did not know this....great tip :)
Thanks, man, explain so clearly. You've saved my life today.
I have only watched 2 of your videos. But they were so informative I had to not only subscribe but this is my very first youtube comment. Keep up the good work. I'l be watching and learning
Ayyyy that’s awesome Traviso! Welcome to the community!

Thank you was really helpful 😊✊🏽
Wow! Very Good quality Content!
Thank you, friend. You are a friend!
Thank you, friend. You are a friend! (2)
Very helpful, thanks (again) :)
Maybe you can help me with one question: I use After Effects' "detail-preserving upscale". However, it really slows down the playback in Premiere Pro. But I guess "Set to frame size" for editing would interfere with "upscaling" ... How do you handle it?
My friend! Thank you so much, you answered all my questions! LIKE
You are a legend man.
Awesome Video
This is a life saver! Thanks man!
Pro tip! thank you!
thanks . now i know what to choose without i uncertain
Very Helpful!
Yesssss this sooo goood 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Javier, I have an issue with the potrait pictures to be cut of, when you set to frame size and may be the pic may be cut off vertically.
You just saved my project!

Thank you
did you the test if the video dimenion is smaller than the sequence? Which one is better?
This was helpful. Thanks, man!
Hey thanks for watching and commenting Chris!
Awesome I must say
What is better, set to OR scale to ?? I am because you say it's 'set to' in 3:50 but 'scale to' in 4:53 . ?? Somebody please clarify.
how would i set to frame size, so that it is zoomed in all the way without black bars? thanks in advance!
Great video, but what about interpreting footage. Is that set to frame size?
Man, thank you 🙏
Thanks a lot ! You explained everything very cool, hello from Ukraine 🙂👍
great explanation
thank you!
Trying to upscale 480p to 720p. Can you tell me should I do it at the beginning or after all edits, cuts and effects applied to it? Thanks.
Can you use the effect Transform to adjust the initial Scale so that the Motion Scale stays at 100%?
You can set the option for Premiere to Set or Scale automatically in the media preferences panel, also.
Thank you!
Yes BUT.....
If you are just cutting and not color grading or key frame zooming, panning or scanning, etc... and want to do it with ease without your computer choking on large file sizes than... Scale To Frame Size is the way. Lets say you have a ton of 4K footage and are editing on the fly and even proxies are still bogging you down. Change your 4K sequence to a 1080 sequence and then Scale to Size. When your done, Change the 1080 sequence back to a 4K sequence and then highlight all the clips and uncheck Scale To Frame Size. Boom!
I did this and it worked! But, one of my clips are now really narrow with black lines on the left and right. What could have happened?
This is gold!
