I think you should turn this into a series! I really enjoyed watching the first video and your indepth explanation about the memes. I appreciate how much you research them too
As someone who just moved to Japan, this is the stuff I find most interesting and relevant. Most places just talk about not sticking your chopsticks into bowls of rice.
@@someonewhoissleepy6720 at funerals they place the chopsticks in a bowl straight up. I imagine it's just like opening an umbrella indoors or breaking a mirror.
@@someonewhoissleepy6720 my parents just told me to not do that because if you do, it'll mean food for the dead. So if you go to graveyards, you'll see bowls of rice with chopsticks stuck in it. Also, just bad manners in general.
The only time you stick chopsticks straight into rice is when you serve a meal to a dead person. Sticking them into your own rice is also against manners and very surprising. It is worse than overturning a plate.
I find your channel interesting because unlike other channels that show another cultures .. here is more grounded and it has everyday things.. not the superficial and bland stuff most channels have.. Cheers from Brazil!
The fact that kuroneko's logo is a black cat and just so happened to have a run in with Ghibli and Kiki's delivery service that has a very prominent black cat is just so amazing.
I love these! There's nothing as in-depth like this on UA-cam right now, and with Japanese media and culture increasingly becoming more popular, I can see this series becoming big one day (also proven by the stats in the beginning).
@@jakelavaclaw2759 Although! Anime and manga is hogging all the Japanese entertainment spotlight, but Tokusatsu is amazingly stable and slowly growing.

Loving this to keep up with my cultural immersion. Your translations also kind of help me out with my own Japanese comprehension. I'm still at a relatively early stage in the language but listening to people talk, sing and write (mostly for kanji) really helps. Thanks! Would be looking forward to other types of content too, although considering how much this blew up you're probably gonna make more of those.
So glad I stumbled across your videos. You talk slowly and articulate well which is very calming and pleasant to listen to between all the hectic fast-paced videos you see on the platform. Plus I'll add the videos are overall just well formed and entertaining.
Adding a personal Japanese story of yours at the end feels like icing and a cherry on top of the content already in these videos, man! I love it and would love to hear more stories since I plan to move to Japan 2 years from now
I subscribed after seeing your other video about the train Otakus and the restaurant owner and now this one 😊 Thank you for translating and explaining, I think your style is pretty chill and pleasant to watch 😄 I like the idea of telling little everyday stories at the end 👍
Thank you so much for your videos!! Even though I'm not learning Japanese (I'm learning Korean), I still find myself watching lots of videos about Japan. There's a unique charm to Japan that I can't quite explain.. 😊

These videos are sooooo useful because it's not just learning the language, but learning all the little things that people know, and laugh about. They are really a very large part of language and of interaction.
As a person who recently came to Japan and wants to immerse myself in Japanese internet culture without a decent language level I really appreciate your channel!

Really enjoying your channel. I'm surprised at this idea that the British don't like spicy food. As I feel it is the other way around. To me, Japanese food is not spicy at all. Now admittedly I have not tried level 10 Co-Co curry! But all the currys I have had in Japan for the last ten years have been what I would consider mild. And nothing like the level of heat I would get from say a standard British Vindaloo curry, and that's not even mentioning a Phaal. Then again, London is full of soft southerners, so it makes sense that they would serve mild tourist friendly food. 😂
As someone from the UK who is constantly annoyed by food labeled “spicy” having no heat at all, it’s such a pain to get actually spicy food here. Thankfully Indian takeaways are here to strip the skin off my tastebuds
thank you for the coco's curry spice translation / explanation going from a 4 to a 5 is a big jump lol spicy food in japan is so hit and miss you either get something very mild or completely inedible
Meanwhile in the UK our national dish is an Indian curry and vindaloo (one of the hottest common Indian curries around the world) is a mainstay in every South Asian restaurant (of which there are many)
I was gonna mention the little running "急" but you covered it @ 5:50, nice! I have a paper shipping bag with the old logo on it, and always thought that was a cute addition :)
A random fun little fact if you ever bring this up with any of your friends over in Japan; Allied Van Lines is actually still active as a company in America! I’ve seen some of their massive semi trucks and the little rental vans on the interstate system in my home state many times. Kind of cool knowing a freight company I’ve seen often in my area helped inspire a company logo like Kuroneko’s.
I'm in love with this channel, shared many informations with my friends, discovered stuff like how in the video game yakuza, long strings of numbers meant anything by paget (lol). Awsome channel, thank you!
It's funny as Japanese Curry is actually the English Curry we exported with our soldiers during WW2. British people grow up eating in South Asian Curry houses. We can eat just as hot a curry as anyone else, in fact, one of the hottest curries in the world Vindaloo is on every Curry house menu in the UK.
I think you found your niche. Its no secret Japanese culture is popular in the West and vice versa. But memes and social media posts are something that dosent quite get past the language barrier. Its very interesting to see what Japanese people think is funny or interesting. I dare you to try and explain Quandale Dingle to Japanese audience
I accidentally stumbled upon this channel and I love it! It's a secret thing, but I adore learning obscure or otherwise relatively unknown Japanese culture/memes. I am happy to have discovered this channel!
I have never heard about this stereotype regarding the British being unable to handle spice before. They were the first Europeans to make Curry a part of their diets, through Indian possession, with it first appearing on the menu in Georgian times, and on banquet meal lists hosted by Queen Victoria & Prince Albert in the 1840s - in fact, I have always been told they (I'm Australian and British by culture) love it hot more than anyone besides the Indians, London being famous for curry houses, and most British nationals I have interacted with support my perception. I have always learnt that the Japanese were the ones who, though they of course do have spicy curries as part of their diet depending on region, preferred flavour on the mild part of the spectrum, with sweet curries. I I love it on the very hot, myself.
As a brit I agree but I will say that a lot of the time spices are dumbed down (like in the video). I can easily eat a curry from an indian takeaway for example, but actually eating a curry at a south asian friends house, or from a more authentic/ expensive restaurant, is a bit different and what I'd actually call spicy
I'm currently doing a class this semester on Japanese pop culture, but I think I might have to show this channel to my professor; after all, memes are becoming, if not already, pop culture, right?

They apparently do this so that blind people would recognize instantly that it is from them. They also released delivery boxes shaped like cats, they're adorable.
