- Hello again everyone,
I will show you in this video how to diagnose a typical TPS fault in any car and how to replace it in a SAAB 93 with the B207 engine.
There are many codes that can have the same affect on the car (mentioned in the video) these codes usually will cause a limp home mode.
Here is one of the most important TSBs that includes all possible fault codes:

Enjoy the video.
Hello. And whats about P2135 code? Faulty Throttle body or acceleration pedal?
Usually ECU or wiring, sometimes accelerator pedal .. i heard some people replaced throttle body to solve it but never seen myself neither i trust it, as this an accelerator pedal code
Another note on this TPS is the connectors under the battery, I had throttle body error P0638-after hours of research on the boards, there are a few connectors under the battery tray, that you can take apart and clean with contact cleaner. this cleared my code, i forget what it was though. Another one of the Saab known problems. just fyi for anyone else. Here is also a tsb for pins, but I believe they call the connector H42.

electronic throttle actuators have been replaced unnecessarily when the fault is dislodged pins in connector H42-2.For this reason, H42-2 must be checked with regard to dislodged pins before the electronic throttle actuator is replaced. In particular, check the pins
which are connected to the accelerator pedal position sensor (pins 13, 14, 17, 18, 19 and 20 in H42-2).In the case of customer complaint the following procedure must first be carried out.Symptom descriptionDiagnostic trouble code P0638 and/or P1682 are/is indicated.Procedure1.Read off the car's diagnostic trouble codes.2.Remove the battery cover etc etc.
Joeybabbs .BABBS i left a link in the video description for the most complete TSB about the issue and the connector ..
It would be nice to have a short video how to access and clean those problematic connectors. I also have p0638, my TB is dirty and needs to be cleaned so this video really great for me, but I am confused where to find h42-2 and what parts should be removed before.
I have a p0606 code but ireally feel like my thorrtle bidy messing with my ecu
P0606 is en ECU failure
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY ok im jw becuase i was on this one page of someone talking about a p0606 cide
Thanks for the video. Where does the lower hose of the booster control value connect to, to the right of the engine? Mine has disconnected and broken from it's destination.
I really cant imagine what exactly u r trying to describe, feel free to eMail me with photos to better help me help u, grab me eMail from the info section of the channel .
I have a code p2135 and p0010 could a bad throttle body also throw off the solenoid actuator?
p0010 !!
Base on your experience what you think about a 2003 saab 9-3 turbo that had the battery disconected to clear a steering wheel code so that it can drive again which it did but die in the middle of the road the next day.. When opening the hood I've noticed a noise (whistle like) and clicking noise Coming from the throttle body when I removed the intake hose I can see: the throttle body trying to go back to the original position?? (That's my guess) but was unable to do so.. the clicking sound will stop for a moment and it will do it again as the Wise sound will continue??..
By the way.. The only way I can get it to stop is by disconnecting the battery..
U should be able to read the fault codes stored in the car when this happen by any cheap OBD reader, and post them here .
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY PO122 , PO223 , PO687 , PO638 , PO122 , PO223 , PO687 , PO638.. So I've change the spark plugs and did a radiator flush car was running excellent before all this.. I've noticed my battery was week and I was in the process of getting a new one but then all this codes appear.. On the fuse box I also noticed that someone have put a 7.5 fuse in the place of the 5 fuse (on place number 2) that it needs to written with the steering wheel lock Wich by the way that message didn't show back up any information will be appreciated since the car only turns but no start at the moment..
Angel Angel , make sure u have a good battery to start with, it can mislead our diagnosis.
from the codes, i can see u probably have two separate issues, one being the throttle body and one being the ECU.
I would suggest throttle body replacement initially, which should solve the no start if the codes remain the same after battery replacement.
however there might be codes remaining after all that and these point to a failed ECU but it would not prevent the car from sunning and driving.
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY all I'm gonna say is that I have made the most expensive radiator flush in my life!!.. Turns out that when I was doing so I've splash some coolant/water in one of the plugs of the computer and so it burn it.. Your guess was right when you said it may be the computer.. Do you happen to know a trust worthy business that sales those ECUs??.. hopefully that's all I need for now to get back running..
Hello friend, I need your help please I have been struggling with this heinous error code P0638, save me! I talk to you; I ordered another used throttle body and replaced, both bodies lubricated them from the gears and tried, I have also put an alternative accelerator pedal and clean of the tracks, the code continued, I checked the wiring physically in the harness and it looks clean free of rust I don't see broken wires. I did this because I bought parts at a good price, all used. I tested 2 throttle bodies and 2 pedals in total. Suspect my ECU and clone another one, I did tests and the error continues, I have not checked the cable under the battery, I have Tech 2 and I would like to diagnose like you. My symptoms are always at a certain speed or accelerating my saab, it seems that the body closes and slows down until I stop the car shakes, I turn off the car and start again, sometimes it starts normal and others a little slow. Greetings from Mexico and thank you.
It is hard for me to guid u with diagnosis on this code, however its always either the throttle body or ECU .
Ur best chance is to to try to take the parts from a working car and try to know if it is the throttle body or the ECU
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY
I am going to clean the h24-2 cable connector first, then I will diagnose my TPS sensors, I hope to find the error. Your video has helped me a lot even so, thank you.
My car isn't starting since replacing the throttle body with a new reconditioned one. Any ideas? It's just clicking at the throttle body and car wont crank at all.
Did u disconnect the battery before replacement ? If not, find a scan tool to clear codes, if thats doesn’t do it, then the new TB is bad
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY It ended up being the battery. Strange thing is, it started up just fine 15 min. prior to putting in the new throttle body. Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it.
Hi I have a p1681 code and car keeps going into reduced performance mode. Any ideas. Its a saab 93 2007 linear sport petrol. Love your videos.
Usually it indicate bad ECM ..
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY thankyou for your reply
Hi did you just clean up the throttle body or replaced? I missed that part of video.
Replaced ..
Can I replace throttle body on 2003 Aero with throttle body from newer model/ restyle 2007+, the one that have plastic cover over gears?
If u change the engine harness with it, and replace the ECM or flash it with newer software .
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY Thanks buddy!
Pre 2006 are 8 pin connector,
2007 on are 6 pin connector on the throttle body.
I have a Saab 93 2,0t is gaving me code for throttle and and anther code for pcm ecm can bad throttle can make a code for the ecm ? Pls
No, usually bad ECM
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY ok thanks
Hey man I need your help. Got two codes for my 2010 Saab 93. P2135. And p1681.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
What about no error codes, but throttle sensor value shows 2 fixed values, first around 0.6V, second around 4.4V, idling or running, no matter?
I keep getting PO638 on my 05 2.0t Saab 9-3.Does it mean a new TB is required?
It usually points to a failed TB , sometimes if the big grey connector under the battery has any corrosion will cause the same fault code, however in some occasions a bad ECU can generate the same code .
did you end up fixing it? and how?
Hello
Do you have any suggestions on what it can be when warning Light Limited Performance is on
U will need to read the fault codes with a scanner
I did and there is no fault codes 😑
@@thisistheway1766 cant be, did u scan all modules or just engine !
Thx, does new TB just plug and play or need relearn by tech 2?
As long as u remove the battery before the removal of the TB and only connect it after you done putting the new one, then no need for relearn
Great video, what tool did you use to adjust and view the graph?
Maxisys 906
Hello
Do i need tech2 to pair the TB with the car?
For the 4 cylinders no , for 6 cylinders yes
i got p0122 how can i fix
Check wiring between throttle body and ECM, if all good then replace the throttle body, in rare cases a defective ECM can cause that code
Hi great video i have a saab 93 vector auto it was working perfect we pulled at the garage put fuel in it run fine but went to start it it started but run rough i got half way home and it wouldnt start so trailered it home still wouldnt start the next day so i took battery lead off and put it back on it started straight up but the engine light is on and it must be in limp mode as the pedal to the floor it on does 3000 rmp any help appreciated
U need to scan it for codes first
Hi. Does anyone know the APPS wiring at the the plug / connector (each color)?
would this cause stutter when max boost at 60mph also got a p0442 thanks
No, describe the Stutter ..
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY boost fine until 4th 5th gear then at full boost it begins to hiccups?pretty badly too. I reset the obd2 codes and seems like it helped but still have the stutter
@@ZOMG1001 bad coils
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY thx I had replaced cly 3 coil about 2000miles ago maybe they're all going
@@ZOMG1001 u can look at the scanner live data, misfire data, during the event, and figure out which one exactly failing .. use only OEM coils
Throttle body replacement, with a basic scan tool and battery reset does turn off check engine light. Either heat or electrical sets it back off. Do I need a Tech2 to properly clear and or program new TPS?
On the 2.0 engines, all u need is to clear any codes .
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY Yes, thats seems right. I think the ECU got too hot and must send it off (ran water during a coolant leak issue that has actually subsided?) I think we're good. Thank you, sir.
Thanks again for another useful and nicely done/documented video. What scan tool did you use on your tablet? And what OBD interface works with the scan software? Is this some software port of Tech2?
Alex Sakellaris this is a stand alone scan tool MAXISYS906 .. it has similar software to the Tech2 and many other factory scan tools
Thanks for a very good video. I have problems with surge when in cruise control. If I set it at 70-80mph, it's not as noticeable, but if it's set at 90mph then the turbo needle fluctuates constantly, and there's a noticeable surge, with the car pulling and stopping constantly. You mention TPS only fails under the same acceleration demand, could it be this that's the problem? I am not getting a surge if I accelerate and keep the speed steady, the boost pressure holds (I check with an eSID). It only happens in cruise control. So far I have changed the boot control valve, and the bypass control valve, and no luck. Am in the process of changing the bypass valve. I saw your video about the possible vacuum leakes and decided to do a gasket for the bypass valve. Unfortunately, it failed, and so I put it back to factory. I am thinking maybe I disturbed the alignment of the valve and, so I am getting a leak. Will install a Forge valve in the coming days. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you very much again for the good videos!
Its hard to pin point the issue remotely, however from experience if there are no fault codes then bypass valve is an option, TPS and MAF ..
But could be boost leak as well. Good luck
Thanks for the reply! I'll see where I get with it.
Are these bad on the 2011 turbo4s too. Mine is a 2.0 engine I think, but the gas pedal feels really loose, car wouldn't start sometimes, and after stopping and driving slow and car does not shift smoothly through gears. In traffic it is pretty annoying when you are stopped then have you go because you have to press down sorta far and the car feels like it goes really slow then bucks, any help with this issue or if it is this? I have never had an engine light go off at all?
James McDonald thats really tough to say based on the symptoms only ..
Did you ever figure it out I have the same issue
@@Thatdude121312 It's a common 2.0T saabs fault. Many people have reported this issue on these and the older 2L saabs unfortunately and that's just the way it runs (no cel,, anything) and yes I replaced almost everything. The Saab 9-3 2.8T V6s tend to run more responsive and smoother without these issues I'm currently selling mine for a v6 Saab. (This is related to the bucking issue though) I replaced the fuel pump and it starts right up, the weird noises come back though but it still cranks
Need newthrottle body and Cable.
Thanks for the video. I'm getting a P2135 code on my 2005 Saab 9-3. I tried locating the grey connector under the battery to check the connection but could find no wires at all when I took the battery and box out. Is it located toward the front? Thanks again.
Check the photo in this post,

@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY That’s great thank you. That’s more towards the front of the battery that’s why I couldn’t find it. Fairly easy to disconnect? Thanks again.
@@JamesGodish Hi Jim, were you able to solve the problem? I am having the same issue on my 2005 saab 9-3 aero
@@JGDavid Yes. I replaced the throttle body and I was back in business.
Thanks for posting it. What type of diagnostic tool are you using. It looks much more modern than a Tech2. Does it replace it ? Thanks
Gaetan PERRIER im using MAXISYS906 .. which an advanced scan tool for many makes and model, it is much more futuristic than a tech2 but it doesnt replace it 100%, maybe 95%
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY Great thanks. Can I also make some setting modification such as lights , doors closing like on the Tech2. Looks like a much more handy tool and works on more cars. I should consider this one. Thanks again
Gaetan PERRIER u can do some stuff, it can add keys for example, change engine idle speed and others, but not a full list.
what diagnostic tool did you use in this video
Autel 906
What if you don't have any codes?
Can u explain !
No codes or check engine light, but my car revs fine in neutral, but once in gear it hesitates until the gas pedal is pushed all the way down and then the car moves. It does this in each gear, I was think either tps or gas pedal sensor
Hey my 2005 saab 9-3 wont turn on anymore and just cranks, bought some starter fluid and wanna test to see if it turns on with it. Do i spray the Starter fluid in the "Throttle Body" or in the "Intake Manifold"? I'm a complete noob
Also, The car fails to connect with 3 of my scanners so I cant get any codes.
Chuy i would spray it in the throttle body, however if u say its not connecting with a scanner, there is a good chance of an ABS module failure .. bit cant confirm that without proper testing
@@TheFlyingMechanicDIY I appreciate the quick reaponse! Will do that when i get home & funny that you mention ABS because the ABS light is on.
