  • In this video I go over how to use this unique instrument to program other HP-IB / GPIB connected instruments, the hard way.

Thank you. The CLEAR toggle switch could definately use a kill switch guard. Awesome content as always.

While extremely limited it still is a useful tool to diagnose HP-IB bus issues. It even has a header on the back that allows you to attach a logic analyzer if needed. Thanks for watching!

Thank you, it is fascinating. When I retire I want to program some of my gear.

Hi! Got one of these too and use it to find out how to program my "boat anchors".
Old HP-IB gear usually uses the EOI (end-or-identify) bit set at the last data byte instead of the trailing CR/LF.
And you should send an UNLSTN command after you're done to free the bus for other communication (which isn't going to happen :-)
    Many greetings from Austria!

You are correct, I just copied what was produced from HTBasic to see how the command syntax was structured. A lot of the HP-IB command documentation I've read is not very clear sometimes. I was curious as to why an EOI statement was not used at the end of the capture. I have seen this instrument used to send a rewind command to a HP 9 track tape machine and an EOI command was used in that demonstration. Anyway, thanks for watching and the shout out from across the pond!

Nice video! I got one from eBay a little while ago. I really like the feature where the slow mode while in listen mode will slow down the communication between your computer and the instrument.

Yeah, being able to halt or slow down the HP-IB transactions really helps out.
