The origin of the weapon system: The Swiss Oerlikon-Bührle group was taken over in 1999 by the Rheinmetall armaments group, a public limited company based in Germany. According to my assumption(!), only components of the guns are still produced in Switzerland in order not to fall under Swiss export restrictions for the entire weapon. The development and production of the electronic components probably took place in Germany in the 00s as the MANTIS system, from which the Skynex system shown in the video was apparently derived. The MANTIS system itself was used by the German armed forces in Afghanistan. Before the Russian war in Ukraine, Rheinmetall AG systems were also advertised with a deliberate Swiss connection, but this no longer seems to be the case since 2022/23. A lot of ‘maybe’ and ‘probably’, I know, but getting valid information about defence projects on the internet is rather impossible.
If you go back far enough you will find the German 20mm Becker cannon of WW1, the first auto-canon in the world, was transferred by German interests to Switzerland to protect them after the treaty of Versailles and became the Oerlikon. Likewise with the Soluthurn 20mmm guns. The rotating breech concept used by the 25mm guns itself came out of the Mauser MG213 developed for German jet fighters in 1943 since the mechanism wouldn't jham under high G forces and allowed much higher firing rate.
Rheinmetall has moved his whole production from Oerlikon Switzerland to Unterlüß in northern germany since 2022, due to the swiss government blocking exports
The ONLY WEAKNESS is NOT ENOUGH AMMO in turret. Rheinmetall should use/ upgrade GEPARD TURRET that can CARRY MORE AMMOs by dropping twin gun configuration with SINGLE GUN. GEPARD TURRET could carry 700 ammos.
gepard needed that load too, as it was less precise and required direct impact hits, while the Skynex and Skyshield system use the more modern AHEAD ammunition wich airburst precisely, resulting in a much lower ammunition consumption per target
This is for defense, not the battlefield. You protect cities and military facilities with it. As the video stated it's for more economic and more effective short range defense. And it is able to combat a wider range of threats. On the other hand, in your experience, what kind of high-tech seems to constantly fail on the battlefield? @AngusGlen-mx8sg Some examples

The most important thing is detection.
Game changer.😅
@Military-TV can you do comparison with the swedish Tridon Mk2 and Skynex,
Nasty system, for sure.

My country need to have this.
Sky Shield, sky guard, sky ranger, sky next, all of them rhinemetal oerlikon 😁
In the true battlefield all this high tech seem to break down

@@wWvwvV What Russia considers 'high tech' is garbage compared to real high tech.
maybe this is the reason why russia stick to old tanks...old but gold..but in reality their tanks are crap
But they work because they are simply no hij tech
very
expensive
Nice new canon fodder for Russian drones…😅😅
Seems like you don´t get it, it kills drones.
Try harder
Developed and produced in Switzerland.
Nope
Bullshit!
The cannon was developed in switzerland. The company is part of Rheinmetall.

only the cannon..and maybe only the predecessor
Ukraine got 2 of these systems and lost 25% of its territory 😅😂
Are you dumb?
