My grandma, a teacher, tried her best to improve my handwriting, 40-45 years ago. I am going to try one more time. Thank you ma’am for a great video 👍🏼
This channel's aesthetic is just so calming. I improved my handwriting and pen grip thanks to this. And practicing those exercises really help. Thank you very much!
These videos are so incredible. I’m 37 and used to love handwriting everything but since I started using computers when I was 14, my handwriting had just gotten progressively worse. Working on improving it again!
I've never really known how to properly hold a pen. As a result I don't really like writing, and when I do my writing is very messy. I'll follow this with interest, maybe one day I'll enjoy writing
thank you very much. it never occured to me that only the index and middle finger are in charge of the strokes. that may explain why i've been having thumb pain since i changed my grip to this style to use fountain pens while using thumb as well
I didn't even know what the "correct" way is until I googled it at the age of 37. I had no idea there was a correct way to hold a pen, I thought everyone does it their own way. Now I'm 45 and still hold it my old way. I've tried this tripod grip out of curiosity, but it never felt natural to me, so I didn't really pursue it. Admittedly it feels easier on the hand, but I need a firmer grip and more control of the pen and I think I use different fingers as dominant so this one doesn't work well. If you struggle with writing or your hand hurts, obviously you should change something, and if this grip works for you that's great. I just stick with what I'm used to and what feels the most natural, and I believe that most people subconsciously find a grip that suits them the best.
as a kid, I was taught cursive writing and we used our arm and hand to write (arm movement). The fingers function is to hold the pen, I think it's call the palmer method of cursive writing
Dear Barbara Nichol, I am so excited to see these videos. You are an inspiration. I have even bought a book mentioned in your book-"skills of handwriting" by R.C Phillips. I have a question, although you have mentioned that you must move your fingers to write but from observation it seems you move your whole hand along the wrist. Can you please write a page with everyday biro or any single pointed pen. Thanks and Regards
I'm right handed and I use the over-the-top position, I find Lamy's shape isn't so friendly for the thumb on the top, and I wasn't comfortable pinching at the bottom - I will try using your "correct" method when using a Lamy
actually, i think i found a different way to think of it. the plane that the fingertips create should match (parallel) the surface you are writing on, and conforming to the particular pen width and angle of orientation. and if you want a particular slant, you can intentionally slant that plane to match what you are going for.
My handwriting is pretty nice, I enjoy writing but I've had the wrong pen hold for all my life and it strains my hand. It doesn't help the fact that I have some important ON PAPER exams in a few months and they consist on a lot of writing. I'm gonna update you guys on how much it'll take to learn a new pen hold + improve my cursive.
Hi Barbara I have a question. Shoukd a pen should rest on the middle finger before its knuckle or after? If it is located before the knuckle, the pen would be more vertical. Please let me hear from you. Thanks😊
What should I do my thumb hurms me a lot I have a problem with the pressure with my index finger and my thumb so i got harmful in my hand pls someone help me

I called you grandmother
It's not proper to hold a pencil with a bone. You should use just three fingertips.
I always get cramps after a few minutes of writing. I will study your guides.
