    Keep in mind that ebay charges fees on shipping as well. So, when the buyer is paying retail and you aren't because of commercial rates, that is paying for the fees, the shipping materials and your time. Those fees include promoted listing costs. It all adds up. I don't lose any sleep over a buyer paying a couple bucks more on shipping when it costs more for sellers all the time. Not to mention all the times you will be running sales and/or accepting lower offers.

      I have never agreed with that. The buyer pays shipping. Then the seller has to pay percentage of shipping why? First off why should the seller have to pay for it, when it was already paid for and I don't remember eBay helping me ship it off.

    I always do calculated shipping. For me, shipping to the coasts is WAY more expensive than shipping in the center of the country. I'm not really willing to eat that extra cost simply because I can't be bothered to weigh and measure an item before listing. And I don't think it's a turn off for buyers. If anything, I think most appreciate the fact that you're not jacking the price on shipping...

      I think for poshmark, it doesn’t matter up to 5lbs. Buyers send shipping directly to poshmark and sellers only get 80% of what the person paid specifically for the item itself. That and they can use whatever priority box, which you can get from usps, so saves on having to buy a lot of shipping materials yourself as a seller, besides shipping labels, tape and occasional padding for some items you box up.

    I don't think you understand calculated shipping. Your decision on which to use BUT again I am pretty sure you misunderstand calculated shipping. You do get to decide whether to pass on the eBay shipping discount and maybe that is part of it or maybe the seller errored on the weigh they entered in the listing. Calculated shipping does not charge $14 for 1st shipping. Calculated shipping charges what the actual shipping is.

    One thing to note is that all things being equal if the shipping cost is high but the item cost is reduced then many times the seller is giving the buyer a heck of a break on sales tax. In Alabama you can't charge sales tax on shipping. eBay can including shipping for charging their fees but they can not charge sales tax on shipping.
    For example: if an item is $100 on ebay with free shipping then I will pay $8.50 in sales tax. That same item if it is $60 plus $40 shipping then I only pay $5.10 in sales tax (a 40% discount on sales tax). eBay fees will be the same.

    Calculated Shipping works well if you say 'Share your discount with Buyer' - usually what they pay is within a dollar of what I end up paying. HOWEVER, you always need to know the exact weight. I don't think it matters, also it depend on where you live. I live in the middle of the US so my calculated shipping seems less than lots of other locations. You are correct - not a right or wrong way, but what works for each person. So many factors! I also think if you sell a lot, flat rate is tons easier.

    I always thought it would be easier to use your method if I were centrally located. But, being in California, the few times I tried this I ended up selling to the furthest point of the US from me! So, personally, calculated works best for me. I do adjust some things, like offer Flat Rate envelope price but use a padded flat rate instead (comes out to about the same price on my end but would have been more for the buyer if using eBay padded flat rate fee)

    Here is how I ship with my business just for FYI. I use my own label printer from Brother (which requires “Brother” labels). I use a kitchen scale because that works for the items I sell. I pull my postage rates from an app called Pirate Ship. (They offer very good shipping rates) I also use the “free” bubble mailers & boxes from USPS for flat rate shipping just like the ones I see you using here. I also order bubble mailers & poly mailers from Upak N Ship online. It’s based in California and I prefer ordering from companies closer to me so I can get supplies quicker. ❤ I also set up USPS “pick-up” so I don’t have to drop off anything at the post office. 😊 📦📭

      That's one thing I've been noticing. They encourage free shipping, don't know why maybe it's just more pleasing for the buying looking for 1x of a specific item to not have to manually add in the shipping. I hate the fact that when you bake the shipping into an item though that the fees are way off this is why I usually prefer calculated and I'm thinking of switching back to it. When I shop I tend to look for an item that is a good deal, but sometimes I will cut myself short on that search I'm not going to go way out of my way and sift through a bunch of duplicate & range listings I will just go with a good price on the item and a prevalent listing. They really need to axe duplicate listings & be more strict on range listings I feel this is what makes some of the stuff that I buy the most unpleasing shopping experience.

    I do calculated shipping on 90% of my items. About half of my sales go to the west coast from my Virginia/ DC metro area home. I’d need to have a flat rate shipping price high enough to cover the cost of shipping across the country; which would lose me sales east of the Mississippi River.

    • @APark22
      @APark22 Рік тому +5

      @@GASCBullsSoccerClub I will try to answer your question. When you use calculated shipping, you get a bit of a discount on the normal shipping rate (for priority mail, not first class). I always use calculated shipping, and I feel it is very fair to the customers. I am not sure why others are saying that ebay charges way more to the buyer when you use calculated shipping. I always find it to be very close, because the discount you get on the shipping rate is usually less than $1. As long as you are putting in the correct weight when you list the item, everything should work out perfectly. Hope that helps!

The main reason is that the poly mailers are "crispy" plastic and are not recyclable. Most people when they receive it in the mail will not be saving them or reusing them and they will toss them in the trash. I think we are not going to make too much impact on the environnment, but I would still like to help in whatever way I can.

    Hello, I've been watching your videos for about two months. I've learned a lot. Thank you. I used your code to sign up to sell on Kidizen. I keep getting ERROR messages when I try to cross list from List Perfectly. Do you experience that? I would appreciate if anyone can answer and offer some tips. Thanks everyone.
